The ball that jenny finch pitches is a 47 core softball. Those are the hardest balls they play with besides senior league softball players use 50. A baseball is made of string. Of course a softball with break the glass...it has a hard core. The baseball is string. And that isnt nolan ryan pitching either.
iv played both sports. Iv played baseball every sence i was little till my 4th year in the Minor leagues. Then i traveled around playing Mens fast pitch. The hitting style is the same. Everything about the hitter is the same. One swing for both sports. Iv came to the conclusion,Hitting a riseball is hard. But hitting a small baseball is much difficult. softball is a harder sport to play then baseball. in baseball there is no itch that can't rise, so every pitch in baseball, the movement is always downwasrd. in softball the ball can either drop or it can rise, making it harder to guess if the ball in gonna be dn ir up. and if the pitcher can throw between 75 and 85 mph then it's quite hard to hit.

Why is it harder to hit a softball for a baseball player? Easy, the baseball goes from high to low, the batter is used to that. The softball goes from low to high (or stays the same, whatever) but the batter is not used to getting a ball like that.
Whenever a baseball player really trains on hitting a softball pitcher, he'd easily be able to do the same as against a baseball pitcher..

BB is faster = more airflow (significant to overcome advantage the larger surface A of the SB) = more movement
Importantly the fact that there are no restrictions on how you throw a BB is throw = MORE options on what to do with the ball. compared to the limited SB pitch

This video is completely biased..First off as many people have already said if you put a softball player against a major league pitcher the same thing would happen, due to the fact that the distance is shorter and therefore it throws off the hitters timing. Next softball bats are much more light making it easier for a softball player to make contact. If we're talking about which is more difficult how about the fact that MLB pitchers having a mound advantage? The ground to mound is a huge deal.
The softball pitchers are very impressive, but I think the machine being smashed was a setup.

@TheChunksss she did strike out A-Rod multiple times when he was at his prime, but not because she's "better" (not saying she isnt but that that instence wasnt a good measure of it) but because the throwing style is so different. They're two very different sports but I think if you put the worlds best male baseball pitcher vs the worlds best male fastpitch softball pitcher the softball would be harder to hit

You know why he can't hit? No, not because of that force but because a softball pitcher can make the ball go up, down, left, and right. If they through it straight he would have a much greater chance of hitting because he has seen those the most. Or, she could make it go down. He could probably hit that because it resembles a 12-6 curve. And another thing, put a softball hitter up against Josh Beckett and she will not hit it once.

First of all, this was a weighted experiment. They got the best softball pitcher in the world to face some guy named Bryan Byrne(who's that?). Secondly, Mr. Jorgenson weakened the plexi-glass or "force plate" as they called it with a ball made of twine and cowhide. Then, they got Miss USA to throw a pitch 30 feet closer, with a ball twice as large and harder than a baseball. Bryan Byrne couldnt hit it because he's used to hitting a baseball... they should throw a softball player in to face Jorgy

She may be 35ft closer but that just means that softball players have less reaction time to hit the ball like 20% less. Not to mention that we have to go against gravity in order just to make contact with the ball. A baseball comes in on a downward motion a softball in an upward motion so in order to hit a softball one has to raise their hands unlike baseball where you have to drop your hands which is much easier. Hitting a softball is no easier than hitting a baseball. try it for yourself

some of you need to understand simple math before attempting to analyze laws of physics. 60.5 feet, is the distance from which a baseball pitcher delivers a pitch. 43 feet is the distance from which a softball pitcher delivers a pitch. Can you please tell me how you arrive at "She may be 35 feet closer"? By my math (and most conventional methods of mathematics), the difference is 17.5 feet.

The ball that jenny finch pitches is a 47 core softball. Those are the hardest balls they play with besides senior league softball players use 50. A baseball is made of string. Of course a softball with break the glass...it has a hard core. The baseball is string. And that isnt nolan ryan pitching either.

iv played both sports. Iv played baseball every sence i was little till my 4th year in the Minor leagues. Then i traveled around playing Mens fast pitch. The hitting style is the same. Everything about the hitter is the same. One swing for both sports. Iv came to the conclusion,Hitting a riseball is hard. But hitting a small baseball is much difficult. Softballs are much bigger and easier to hit. point being-90mpH slider=much harder to hit then a riseball. 100 Hardball-harder to hit then a sball

1. No softball player hit against a baseball pitcher
2. It was the best softball pitcher in the world against an average prospect
3. Force has nothing to do with how hard it is to hit a ball
4. A 95 MPH fastball is the average speed for an MLB Pitcher. Have a guy who can throw 100+ and it's harder
5. In baseball there is the opportunity to throw at any arm angle so a rise ball is possible if the pitcher threw submarine

softball is a harder sport to play then baseball. in baseball there is no itch that can't rise, so every pitch in baseball, the movement is always downwasrd. in softball the ball can either drop or it can rise, making it harder to guess if the ball in gonna be dn ir up. and if the pitcher can throw between 75 and 85 mph then it's quite hard to hit.

And about the upward and downward motion....a baseball can be pitched high and low. it doesn't matter about if it drops or comes up. either way its the height of the ball that matters.

Why is it harder to hit a softball for a baseball player? Easy, the baseball goes from high to low, the batter is used to that. The softball goes from low to high (or stays the same, whatever) but the batter is not used to getting a ball like that.
Whenever a baseball player really trains on hitting a softball pitcher, he'd easily be able to do the same as against a baseball pitcher..

@BIGwurm13 - She isn't anywhere near the best softball pitcher in the world. It says in the video that she can throw 70 mph. The pitcher on our midget team can throw 70+ mph. In the ISC's (some of the best softball in the world), pitchers can throw upwards to 85 mph.

its not about being sexist. Like I wrote before avg MLB salry is almost $4M dollars, avg SB salary is $50K. If softball players can hit the more difficult SB then simple economics would mean that they would be recruited to hit the "easier" baseball.
Just because people need time to adjust to something doesnt mean that they cant ultimately do that thing

Pt 1: Reaction time: The Fastest Pitcher in the MLB, chapman?? pitches at 105 MPH not 95MP . He is also tall with a long stride which reduces pitching distance more than finch does. So a like for like comparison can be calculated to give a shorter RT when facing chapman than lynch.
+ the SB is less aerodynamic so slows down more!

secondly .. "one extra chromosome"?? .. do you mean Trisomy 21, 18 etc?. You will find that being mentally retarded is symptom/result of having one of those disorders (or on of the many where you have deletions or translocations). However there are many other causes of mental retardation. So me calling you mentally retarded is me just saying that YOU ARE DUMB!

@Newmaidumosa first of all i asked where you got your "facts" from. scientific hypothesis are not facts. secondly i dont understand why people even associate the word "retard" with any form of "stupid" not once in any dictionary or thesaurus does it mention anything about "lack of knowledge" or "stupidity". im not about to go into all the scientific proof on what qualifies one to have a mental disability. This video is completely biased..First off as many people have already said if you put a softball player against a major league pitcher the same thing would happen, due to the fact that the distance is shorter and therefore it throws off the hitters timing. Next softball bats are much more light making it easier for a softball player to make contact. If we're talking about which is more difficult how about the fact that MLB pitchers having a mound advantage? The ground to mound is a huge deal.
