@realgraff16 we wear them but mostly its to carry our bags on, here in okc the competion is so bad from rat workers that most of the time we never tie off to anything. i just finished connecting a 6 story casino and not one minute of that job did we have a lifeline
starting my apprenticeship on or around august 8th with pittsburgh pa local 3...hit me up with any good tips and advice thanks. im a combat army veteran so i wont have a problem listening to people or treating coworkers like brothers.
Shhhit, da gud old U.S of A, luv it, here in New Zealand we're nt allowed 2 climb columns or even walk da steel without hooking on, dat Shhhit sux sax, not dat dats stopd us doe, ya do what ya gota do 2 get da job done, major respect 4 my fellow skywalkers
Any jobs4 us? ( young keen kiwi boy, with advanced Aussie Rigging tickets & 8 years under da belt, Hook It Up! )
I can not do heights. I worked very close with the men from our local union for 15 years at cHc Fabricating in Cincinnati Ohio, although my time was spent in the shop on the ground. I have heard many veteran Iron workers say if you are not afraid then you are stupid, I have heard them say you develop a respect for where your at and nurture a 6th sense with what is going on around you that keeps you alive that high up. I respect those men who put there ass on the line daily to make America great!
I miss that life a lot can't wait to get back into it again in a few years. Thinking about going back to my old parent union at the Local 550. Thanks for the cool video brother.
Anyone know where I can find these guys? Or ironworkers in NYC that work on dangerous projects? I'm casting for a reality show that is being pitched to a major network. Need these guys or ironworkers like them that lead dangerous lives and also have humor, conflict and drama in their lives. THANKS!
@kiteport Find an ironworker - ask who just got divorced. Line those guys up - find the ones who got their pensions taken by their ex wives. Those are the guys you wnat to cast. Or just come to Local 3. I'm sure we can find some for you.
@kiteport go to the new world trade center site there are hundreds of us there. The discovery channel has been there filming us. Im a connector who climbs up and puts the steel in and im damn proud of it!!
@nyciron that's awesome man! i took a picture at the jersey city waterfront yesterday where i am standing in front of the new world trade center so you can see it behind me across the hudson. i am 16 so imagine i will really value that picture when i am older and the building is complete
@Chargeglass The pay is good and you don't have to listen to people talk shit. It's a great job and you get used to the height after a while. These connectors have been doing this for at least four years. You don't just get thrown to the wolves the first day on the job.
I was an Ironworker fo15 years and loved the work, but had to give it up because of the lack of work Local 167.Careful guys hope work picks up for ya soon.
I worked high steel for three years. I was almost frozen and not able to move on the first day of the job when I first stepped out onto an i-beam. I was actually stuck on one spot because of fear. LOL By the end of the day, I didn't think about it any more then I would have if I was walking on a sidewalk.
You have to be tough as nails to shimmy up one of those I beams. Regardless of what kingdeadly1 says I don't think you could do this job while drinking and partying beyond the age of maybe 30, any older and you would have to choose one or the other.
@WATCHTHISSTUPIDVIDEO hell naw No Fucking way you talking bout Non Union, I'm signing up for the apprenticeship program an the flyer said starting pay at 29 and sum cent an hour an you make up to 36 to 37 an hour. For 15 dollars an hour I better be on the ground the whole time.
Looks easy but it AINT , u could get maimed or kill'd @ anytime. But back in theday these MEN worked w/ lil 2 no safety equipment. Keep up da great work .
@threelittleniglets ............do your research again bro, im an iron worker, and i didnt go to school, i learned entry level form the get go, and ive been doin it for 5 years now, i started off at $22/hr, now i make$35/hr, full benefits and pension, $7.45? your retarded
