im a big fan of sir christopher and i hope that bbc or some other tv company in the uk will make a loooong documentary about sir christopher and his career he deserves it...
i mean ....sigh... when he is gone gulp...not before that. and they sould have a rerun of that program twice every year. one airing the 22 of may..(the day of his birth) and on on the day he....(passes away sigh)
He's certainly getting old and frail, but he's nearly 90 and mentally still doing well and able to walk. And he has led a very good, full, and productive life - featuring in one of the best trilogies of the modern era as a capstone, and looking to have some kind of role in the Hobbit as well.
Amazing and moving is Chrisptopher Lee. So glad he received his award non-posthumous! I loved the Hammer Films. I grew up with them. They are still the best. A very versatile and respected actor One of the greats [as was his equal Pter Chushing] Such gentlemen. He, they, have my greatest repsect. Keep going but don;t overdo it Mr. Lee! and thank you! x
Its when he says Please at the end when they give him the standing ovation when his genuine humility and humble nature comes through which really makes it emotional
For a guy his age, you really have to respect him considering all the things he's done. I personally give him the title of being the iron man of acting. He's one of the few who's going to go out doing what he loves to do.
i would hope that the other people in the audience would love and respect this man as a truly world class actor, i watched him growing up and scared the hell out of me in his vampire days
@scarabmango He would have been the perfect Dumbledore! With due respect to the excellent Michael Gambon. I can only imagine that he wasn't cast because he simply, by sheer force of charisma, would have wiped the younger actors off the screen.
@xaxie1 He could have done the job masterfully. And unlike that idiot Michael Gambon, he would have been the right height, build, and of course voice. All his typecasting would be overturned in a second.
When this legend finally leaves a world that will never see his like again, I anticipate weeping, and I do not cry easily. There is something truly magnificent about this man, and I fear many lovers of film and theatre won't know what they've lost until it's too late.
damn i really hope he doesnt die during the filming of the hobbit... seriously though just an amazing talented man. i hope it goes without saying i hope he doesnt die anytime soon.
@LootableCorpse - he's talking about his own image as an actor, it was almost destroyed after too many dracula horror films, let's just say they weren't the best work of art in hollywood..
@Ixdontxknowxanything He was going through a terrible deasese at the time of this award but has beaten it. From what I'm told he's in much better shape now dispite his age.
This legend of the cinema said once that the caracther that he would really like to play was Don Quixote. If Orson Welles would be alive, would make it real, because who could be a better actor that the one that has played roles like Dracula, Saruman, Count Duku and so many unforgettable carachters on screen.
He looks a lot better now, watch this: youtube.com/watch?v=R5UVIyUqa60
AFAIK he had some health problems early this year, but he finally got over it. And plus he filmed all his Saruman scenes already, so he definitely is going to be in the Hobbit :D
Sir Christopher Lee is indeed a fine actor who gives brilliant performances in every film and project he does. I truly respect this man who in my eyes is one of the best actors to ever grace our screens.
Just watched a video of him three years ago and compared to this, he has changed A LOT. I know he will be included in the Hobbit (not sure how extensively yet) and I want him to be. I just wonder how they will deal with his declining health.
what a great man and actor, he scared me mant times in his vampire days, no dracula like him, im afraid there all going 1 by 1, the guys like Richard Burton, Richard Harris, Burt Lancaster, Oliver Reed, Errol Flynn, Peter o'toole is still here but i wonder for how long, THESE PEOPLE ARE STARS NOT JUST ACTORS, i dont think they will ever be replaced
@Hermoor Screenwriter Frederica Sagor Maas just turned 111 yesterday, so it IS possible. Besides, Sir Christopher Lee looks amazing for 89. He is not just going to see The Hobbit, he's going to be in it (confirmed) and some other films too. Don't scrap him out just yet:)
Christopher Lee is denfently a bad ass..... hope for him and his fans like im a one of him that he will be stay healthy another 89 years , he is from a diffrent wood made as today actors
Interesting how we see closeups of two Bond girls in the audience... Rosamund Pike from Die Another Day (2002), and Eva Green from Casino Royale (2006)
I Agree. It was only just over 5 years ago that he was moving so fast in star wars. His speech has also hampered too. Oh well it was bound to happen. Still an incredible man though
Who in the world would dislike this? Seriously? Its not even a subjective thing, its a great actor being applauded by the top tiers of showbiz. What a voice.
I cried when I first saw this (don't know why...), but IMO, he's the thrid greatest Dracula to ever grace the silver screen, he's one of the greatest actors that always has such a presense, even in a cameo...he's voice is recognizable to almost everyone, and though my generation knows him from Star Wars and LOTR series, I know him from the hammer films, and his work with Peter Cushing; it's about time that he got the recognition that deserves, and I congradulate him!
Christopher Lee is so great, he is better than Cary Grant was, better than Harrison Ford is, better than James Mason was, better than Robert Redford is, better than David Niven was, better than Peter Sellers was, better than Richard Burton was, better than Kevin Costner is, He beats many.
hope he live enought to participate on the hobbit and whatch its premiere.. such a legendary actor should have one last epic movie to be remembered, and he really wants to say good bye to the professional world in the LOTR prequel. Best of wishes to the legend, nobody deserves this fellowship more than sir christopher lee

@MrBoBoTom I am unsure weather that comment is saying "I hate you you old man" or "Dont die gramps, you need to stay alive for the Hobbit and beond" Either way, Long live Christopher Lee
i pray he lives many many more years and us more great performances.... i also hope that the academy awards will also learn how to appreciate real talents!!!! he is a brilliant man, handsome even in his 88, charming and talented!!! i wish him health happiness!!! i wish him the best (anyway he deserves that!!)
To be serious though he has so much respect from everyone. He speaks slowly and people just cant wait to hear what he has to say. Noone dared talking between themselfs in fear of loosing one word. This man should be an Icon from many,
Perhaps one of the best actors of all time

@MrBoBoTom I am unsure weather that comment is saying "I hate you you old man" or "Dont die gramps, you need to stay alive for the Hobbit and beond" Either way, Long live Christopher Lee

One of the reasons Sir Christopher is still working at 88, is that he is irreplaceable.
I am so pleased that he now has a knighthood and a Bafta Fellowship, but he should have received both of these things many years ago.

@neohip and for that, he should at least have an AFI lifetime achievement award too.

To be serious though he has so much respect from everyone. He speaks slowly and people just cant wait to hear what he has to say. Noone dared talking between themselfs in fear of loosing one word. This man should be an Icon from many,
