I first heard this song sung by the Hollies in England in 1964 and Linda's version is comparable. But she sings country, rock, romantic ballads such as "Before the next teardrop falls", "Will you still love me tomorrow". I pray she lives forever because she brings back such wonderful memories. Linda gets a bad rap, I think, because back in the 70s critics questioned her choice of songs for her albums. And then some also said that her interpretations didn't reflect an understanding of the songs. Plus she sort of left rock behind. Not a bad artistic choice given that rock didn't seem to arrive anywhere, now that we are here in 2010.

I saw her live in Atlanta in 1977. That was about a year and a half before this song was released as a single, but man, she put on a hell of a show!

She didn't do a lot of jumping around, or screaming, or have a bunch of lasers and lights and pyro-technics.......she just let her band play the music and then stepped up to the mic and opened that pretty mouth and MAGIC came out!!!!!
