  • The foolish ongoing comparisons of Steve to Ritchie are foolish...They BOTH are absolute killers...They each can stuff the other can't...If forced to choose,I'd go with Steve because of his incredible versatility in styles he has mastered,ie classical, country, jazz fusion, etc.

  • If you inspire John Petrucci you better fuckin' rock. This guy fuckin' rocks.

  • I love it. Three fingers holding the pick. Just like I do.

  • @whpriol1 That's not really correct, but... who cares! :-)

  • this band's guitarist plays like Steve Morse!!!!

    /watch?v=KZJKPLo32aE&feature=related

  • a great guitar player...a great show ... but this noiseful, crying people are very, very boaring!!

In every classical conzert, a loud audience are forbidden. Who tells, that in a rock concert, people have the right to destroy the magic of a show with loud and crazy trills and boaring screems. I hate this !! Drunken idiots.

  • whats problem, Steve playd allways better than Richie... YOU NOW one is a songwrighter second guitarplayer

  • whats problem, Steve playd allways better than Richie... YOU NOW one is a songwriter second guitarplayer

  • ritchie, your are songwrither, not guitarist, forget it

  • Steve Morse is the best guitar ever... just i thing..

  • Fuck Steve Morris! He can't play "Drifting" like me!

Here is my video at São Paulo, February 2008. Beautiful solo! :]

  • If you want to watch Blackmore, watch him, but stop cramping on.

  • SO AMAZING!!!.;..HE ROCKED MY WORLD!!!!

  • Ritchie Blackmore rocks!!!

  • When I saw it here in Brazil it was the SAME notes!! :P

I think he recorded it to remember someway..

  • Amazing...

  • this guy can make you feel his music...

  • Shut the fuck up, shitty motherfuckers! (All that fucking clapping and whistling!) Suck my balls!

  • you're wonderful...very cool...

  • Love this guy ..

  • Steve Morse ROCKS, but, Blackmore was better, and fitted better for Deep Purple.

If it wasn't for Blackmore, I don't think the most of the Deep Purple riffs would've been made.

  • why all has to whistle on solos ... KILL THEM !!

  • it´s amazing in which way man can be gifted... it´s not in the fingers, not even in the head, it spreads from the heart!!!

  • Steve Morse underrated?!?!?! HELL YEAH.....he's one of the greatest.

  • THE BEST ! Never understood why he isn't a household name.

  • please can any body tell me which songs he was playing....please please help!

  • @smartsharpkiller The Well Dressed Guitar

  • Exactly, my favs, BH, Vai, Al D. Daryl S, Morse, Sat, S. Howe, Alex L. to name a few. On any given day they're all the best. Just a matter of being in that mood.

  • IO C' ERO

  • best guitarist in the world!

  • MAN, this guy's great!!

  • Guys: after 40 yrs listening to and playing the guitar I'll tell you a secret. You end up having 3 or 4 'favourites' and the reason you don't have 'a favourite' is that each gives you something the others don't. Morse flying, Blackmore angry, Page contemplative, Johnson grinning...... My favourite guitarist is the one I've just listened to out of my select group and therefore the one I try to play like until I hear another one! (Good) guitarists are artists; preference not skill is the decider.

  • @walshg10 humm yeah never thought about that, true tho

  • @walshg10 look up Lenny Breau

  • You'll know you are listening when you are not busy comparing it to something else you heard some other time.

  • Sad, but strangely reassuring, to know that even an artist of Steve's calibre has to put up with audiences that have no idea how to listen, let alone clap in time.

  • does anyone know what songs these solos are from?

  • him and joe bonamassa are my new favourite players

  • Blows Blackmore away!!! way to go steve!!

    I love Blackmore but!!!!

  • a friend tell me that he saw the steve morse debut in deep purple here in mexico =D

  • Blackmore was a great seventies guitarist but Morse is just in another league today.

  • I totaly agree. I prefer Steve to Blackmore. He plays in another league :P

  • hate ppl saying morse sucks just because they like blackmoore better... DP with blackmoore and Morse cant be compared! its two completely different bands. Blackmoore is kickass, but Morse gief's me a boner each time I see him on stage!

  • IO C'EROOOOO!!!!!

  • Great shredding!

  • come on man black more is very cool you know he hasamazing riffs but about solo morse can beat him easiyl there are thounds of people play like black more only the melodic blues you know..but morse can paly fast can shred it and feel the bles awesome!

  • isn´t he simply gourgeaous? Incredible? Morse???

    The BETTER and ULTIMATE Blackmore???

  • I never get tired of listening to the great Steve Morse!

  • Quel jeu magnifique

  • Fantastic!!!

  • you are too lucky, you vidéo is on the Steve Morse official website, it's called "improvised solo"

  • I know ;)

  • look at this guy, holding them in the plam of his hand... softly.... not smashing them with walls of volume...

  • Man talk about being too good for a band. They need to replace everyone else so they can match the quality. It's like putting Steve Vai in like, I dunno...Whitesnake lol.

  • who cares sucker shut tha fuck offf fuck blackmore morse beat him with the spilt

  • i love this man

  • Steve Morse we love you !!!!

  • I don't care about comments.

  • i try to appreciate all the unique things that every guitarist brings to the table. it is not a compotetion. and shouldnt be.

  • People, you shouldn't be arguing, it's a matter of taste. Someone likes Blackmore better, and someone Morse. In true speaking, Deep Purple wouldn't be in this position as it is right now if there wasn't for Blackmore. He wrote half of the songs, famous Smoke On The Water was written by him, and many others..

  • did some say that? from what is pretty much true morse is still more creative and is more musically educated, im not here to argue so like blackmore fans who want to yap on, ask musicians what they think about steve morse and believe me! morse is one of the best there will ever be, not with deep purple, but with his solo work blackmore could not come close to creating, i don't like to compare guitarist ever, but this is something that need to be said.

  • Sorry Blackmore...you're FIRED!

  • Agreed!

  • @w5cdt I really hope you're joking! Blackmore was a god...

  • @w5cdt I could not catch you. SM is a country guitar player. You should redirect you sentence to Chet Attkins. Another thing LOOK AT HIS CLOTHES. Ritchie should never go on stage like this guy. OK? You really should start UNDERSTAND THE PHENOMEN called Richard Harold Blackomre. It is not the quick playing IT IS EVERYTHING REST.

  • Fuck Steve Morse!!!!!Er soll erst mal dahin riechen wo Blackmore hinscheisst!!!!!

  • @Hecht328 @CockEyedApe

and now i want you guys see playing super fast string skipping riffs awesome violin swells etc.

if hes bad i dont wanna know how bad you guys are

  • @w5cdt

    you're an idiot

  • @AceFrehley29 You're a punk-ass chump. I was listening to both of these guitarists before you were born.

  • @w5cdt

so in 20 years of listening to deep purple, you should know that Blackmore was not replaced because Morse was better than him ....

Anyway, I was lucky enough to see Morse playing live, and yes, it is one of my favorites, but you definitely can not compare it to Blackmore ...sorry for my english

  • @w5cdt Just no. Blackmore can play as good as this. But more importantly, he was the originator of this style. It takes a lot more to be the first at something than to be the best at something.

  • @w5cdt

noboday will denide the earnings of Blackmore for DP.

However now we do have the ( much ) better solution.

I like to continue your opinion : Thank´s God he´s fired.........

  • whats the name of this song!?

  • the well dressed guitar :)

  • I love these guys! I could worship them all day. Steve Morse's belly button was made for my tongue! Ian Gillan's hair was made for my fingers to explore. They are all beautiful guys! I bet Don Airey has beautiful feet I could explore. Oooh....

  • Morse pwns blackmore... Both comes with good ideas and songs to deep purple. But morse is better ;)

  • Bullshit....

  • this is also 35 years later, that has some effect.

  • HUGE effect, like golf (Woods vs. Nicklaus): decades of refinement in the study of techniques, equipment technology and other influencial players.

It's like saying Eddie Van Halen is 'better than Jeff Beck,' which he isn't.

Morse is a thing of beauty, like Tiger Woods, but here's one for the old farts: Eddie VH said he visited Chet Atkins. Chet asked him about hammer-ons (e.g Eruption). Eddie showed him, and Chet goes, "oh - you mean like this?" Chet blew Eddie's socks off. The End.

  • Have you heard much of Tommy Emmanuel's stuff? He was a student of Chet Atkins.

  • Can't believe I didn't know TE prior to your tip ... checked him out, and now know how Townsend, Beck, et al felt when Hendrix came along ('hmm - what else can I do for a living?').

He is utterly amazing. I first thought of Leo Kottke, then Tuck Andress, then Chet himself, but look past his showboat (aka entertainer) side, and Emmanuel gets his own category. Stunning feel and control.

Now I'm NEVER going to be able to play the guitar - thanks a lot!

  • I gave up playing when I heard Steve Morse. Tommy Emmanuel's just icing on my going nowhere cake.

  • He wasnt the student of Chet Atkins

  • "the" student? Chet Atkins was Tommy Emmanuelle's mentor. A quick search will tell you this... besides... I heard it come from Tommy's own mouth in person. So of course he was.

  • He plays with chet Atkins, he might have learned something by seeing him but Chet wasnt his mentor (may be tommy looked at him, but tommy didnt study with Chet). You have to make a quick search. He used to play with his family and he learned of them. His brother used to taught him stuff.

    Shut it music hater!

  • fucking asshole what are you stupid or what

  • opinion time whos better morse or blackmore

  • Both as good as each other.

These days Morse , old days Blackmore. .i know lots of D.P. songs i grew with them Ritche thrashes and hui.

Ritchielike 30 years old d.p had no Ritchie in band, might have been fucked.

  • i think this is probably my favorite version of well dressed guitar, the beginning is just too beautiful not to top the chart

  • Met Steve Morse in Nicosia, Cyprus before the `Purple` gig (got pic` ) He`s a great guy , and a natural guitarist... was out standing at the concert.... Bravo...

  • STEVE MORSE, well....he IS exceptional , like also Clapton, Knopfler, JIMI in THEIR times...He brought back Fresh Liver and Blood into Deep Purple, didn't he?

If it wasn't only for the marketing, they 'd better run under the name of "WHITE BURSTING LIGHT"'

    De Schepper

    De Schepper

  • Just turned on Ovation TV to check out best of Montreaux '04. Thought the guy playing lead looked familiar. (I'm an old guy with a 30 yr old son!) Then he really started playing! The first time I saw Steve was at a Halloween party in '74 at the U. When they closed with 'Dixie' he melted the frets! His Sr. recital was almost a religious experience. Those were the days!

  • So ,you came back here?

Morse gave you GOLD, dit HE MORE than just inspire YOU?

    DID HE?

  • Saw Steve with the Dregs here in Wilmington NC in the 90's unbelievable, a true musician.

  • Oo... magnific! when the band starts togheter is marvelous!!

  • C' ero anche io

  • I'll be on a Deep Purple concert them next month in Dortmund!!! Can't wait to see them live!!!!!!!! :)

  • Morse, Perucci, Lifeson, Rother - just a few names to conjure with...........

  • Lifeson is underrated imo.

  • that fucker who keeps whistling is an asshole...god i want to listen to a great guitarist and someone keeps whistling

  • steve morse is, for me, the best, a wonderful playing and natural. thank for this vidéo

  • Pretty Eric Johnson, but perfect

  • whats the name of the first solo?

cause when I search "well dressed guitar" i get the second solo .

  • the first solo has no name.

Is an introduction for well dressed guitar played by steve in the last tour ;)

  • steve is improvising everything before the well dressed guitar.

  • he has got a sustainer in his guitar good guitar solo

  • ...he always won his awards and accolades as: "best all-around" guitarist. Of course there are many elements of rock in his playing...but there are many other elements, such as: blue grass, classical, jazz, celtic, funk, blues etc. The Dregs were best summed up as:"Electronic chamber music." I considered them the most versatile jazz-fusion band ever!! But I do agree that Ritchie is the definition of a "Rock god" and Morse is better suited for the Dregs.

  • Well put...Steve was always a maverick. I was lucky to have seen him at a young age...

  • Modern Rock guitarist...Recent generation?? Morse has been around for 32 years. I'm friggin 45 years old and grew up with Morse. He may be recent to those who only know him as "the guitarist for Deep Purple." But Morse has been playing OTHER music besides rock, way before he joined Purple. In fact...he was NEVER considered a "Rock" guitarist in all of the years that he was in the Dixie Dregs.

  • arguing over blackmore and morse really makes no sense at all: morse is one of the most skilled modern rock guitarists, he belongs to a more recent generation...blackmore is one of the pioneers of virtuoso hard rock guitar playing...without blackmore and the likes, there wouldn't be any van halen, vai, malmsteen, satriani, petrucci etc. etc.

  • Why don't you silly children shut up arguing over blackmore and morse. They are both hugely influencial guitarists, both have their place in history, both were groundbreakers and trend setters. Both could be outplayed by many guitarists in the business today. Music stands still for no one. And to Guitarman, Blackmore hugely influenced one of the most influencial and highly respected shredders ever, both musically and in his performance.

  • I love Blackmore and Morse. Apples and ornages, and both great players. I thought Deep Purple was dead for good after the last time Blackmore bailed.. Until they released 'Purpendicular' with Steve Morse. I think his sound has single-handedly added another 20 years to their career. Honestly, I don't even miss Blackmore now. Morse just fits.

  • DUDE STOP WHISTLING!!!! (in audience)

  • enough with this crap!

deep purple are enjoying playing like never before, don't really care what you have to say cause it don't make sence or matter.

  • oh and one final thing, u saw ritchies solos and there all HORRIBLE?? why dont u just type 'ritchie blackmore' ad see his solo in 1882 from 'live between th eyes'. that should make u and all the other blackmore haters shut the fuck up.

  • morse is in the top 10 best guitarist in the world voted best overall guitarist 5 time in a row , 6 time grammy award. blackmore was at his peak in the 70's its you blackmore fans that can't keep there mouth shut we hate, not ritchie. but you know im not going to continue to argue with people that can't understand music and are always criticizing music, im also a musician and steve inspired me like millions and millions in the world!

  • morsehas been voted best overall guir=tarist 5 times in a row?? by who?? stop making things up. anyway believe whatever u want i dont care, this is stupid.

  • "guitar player magazine" you don't know shit cause its true! he was disqualified cause they needed new winners, but he would still be winning right if he was still in there and doing his solo carrere. and a 6 time grammy award winner, played with "Kansas" in the late 80's.

  • That's the problem, though. The fact that Blackmore was around in 1882 just proves he's too old to rock with Purple anymore, so he had to go. It's funny, because I read somewhere that he said it was "great to be doing the whole Rennaisance thing again... just like when it all started way back in the 1600's.."

    Old dude.

  • very funny.. i think is a bit obvious to any1 who know 'a bit' about rock history that i meant 1982 and not 1882.i mistyped

  • also if think about it morse has been around for quite a while (since the 80's i believe) but he never managed to reach sperstardom with what he did. hes lucky he got in dp and im not saying hes not that good just that hes not right for dp and that its hard to replace some1 who has done alot for rock music and is considered one of the mowst inspirational guitarists ever.

  • that is because they don't have ritchie or lord who were the main songwritters apart from glover. also thx to ritchie we have yngwie, rhoads, gilbert and alot more who were inspired by him..what has morse bought to the guitar world?who has he inspired?well maybe u can figure out the answer to yourself since your so smart and 'grown-up'.also if u dont need my 'bullshit opinions' dont reply or just ignore my comments.but i suppose your right for whatever u say since your'grown-up'and know about dp..

  • Deep purple now is unlike any band i have ever seen, the fans get so much into it with all this energy which creats good music and they support the band cause they love them, look at you "billygnrvr" your just one little child whining cause you can't get what you wan't, haha pathetic! deep purple forever!

  • why dont u shut the fuck up and stop tring to make an arguiment. im no fucking kid and dp was my dads favourite band and the first i got into. i know a shit more than u do bout them. also when some1 sais'more creative'im not talking about the guitar solos but the actual songs that get written! also this is know improvisation but im shure that u being the smart-ass about dp that u r already knew that. also i have been to loads of their gigs these days wich are cool but ffs their records are crap

  • ...and if my father had kept his boots on (on that fateful night)I might be taller!!Rithie is not in the band, and never will be, so let it go!!BTW, there isn't any classic rock bands, these days, making good music anyway. Why should Purple be any different. They are living off their formal glory, YES...but they seem to be having a good time, and they still bring in good crowds. Ritchie is Purple, but don't begrudge them their right to exist.

  • Does Steve's face remind anyone else of a young Ted Nugent?

  • that is so sWEET! ROck-ON!!

  • O.K. s22ad, you cleared one thing up, but put your foot in your mouth again! Bolin can't play for shit? Have you ever listened to any Bolin material(outside of Purple)? Listen to Billy Cobbham's "Spectrum." Jeff Beck did...and was inspired to change his sound. Before you go trashing Beck...just remember...he's one of Blackmore's favorite guitarists.

  • well no1 can replace blackmore in dp

  • hes not replacing blackmore, this is a whole new band thith more soul and fun, i don't care what you or other blackmore fans say cause it does not make any sence! so please keep your mouth shut cause we do not need your bull shit opinions anymore!

  • its not a facking new band cause half the members are the original. im just sayinf if ritchie was with dp they would make way more creative stuff than they do now.

  • more creative? what the hell are you talking about!!!???? they started becoming unsuccessful with ritchie in the later days, do you even know why he left? and you have no f*cking idea what i meant by a "new" band, they are really having the time of there lives being done with the so called "devil" in there interviews. you don't know shit so sush!

  • anyways this is all improvisation, i saw ritchies live solo on youtube there horrible, all ritchie seems to do is try and play super fast but no good phrasing, totaly inaccurate, you can't say that ritchie now with DP would be more creative now just does not make any sence, and atleast most other countries know good music and respect! look at you your just bitching about blackmore and im sick of you blackmore fans the ones that can keep on whining.

  • man his sound is so clean, his style is very cool.

  • Well s22ad, I don't know if you've heard...Bonham has been dead for awhile. Morse was not in Purple when Bonham was alive. Unless Bonham was referring to Morse's playing from the Dixie Dregs....in which case wouldn't really make much sense, because not to many people knew who Morse was back then.

  • says in led zeppelins biography that once, John Bonham walked onto the stage when Deep Purple were playing..he was drunk at the time..and he shouted 'Steve Morse Sucks!' through the microphone..no point to me saying it, steve morse is good..just thought i'd mention it

  • Bonham died in 1980, Steve Morse joined Deep Purple in 1994 how is wha you said possible. Stupid Troll

  • looking at the book, it wasnt morse, my bad. the book said that he said "my name is john bonham of led zeppelin, and I just wanna tell ya that we got a new album comin' out called Presence and that it's fuckin great!!" Then Bonzo turned to leave, but before he went he turned back and gratuitously insulted Deep Purple's guitarist. "And as far as Tommy Bolin is concerned, he can't play for shit!!"

  • wow thats fucking amazing.

hes like a less mechanical but better writing john petrucci!

they should make a band together and form voltron!

  • who wouldnt? talents like him come along once in a million

  • I've been a DP fan since '74! Yes Blackmore's DP was fantastic. There's no disputing it. His was a driven, hard-wired sound - terrific.

Morse is a technical genius. His depth of passion & command of precision fingering is legendary. It is Impossible (and silly) to compare the two, but to say Morse is a 'replacement' for Richie? No. He brings a whole new level of richness & body to their music. Steve Morse is so not a 'replacement'. DP, I'm sure, are delighted to have Steve grace their lineup!!

  • Hear..Hear..

  • I just love Steve. He's a great guitarist, he's underrated just because of ritchie's (overrated by my opinion, but well, that's just personal) shadow. I agree he's not realy a Purple type of guitarist, but he's still an awesome guitarist and i don't think anybody here will disagree about that.

  • i understand but after ritchie left it was a new band, this is the right sound for the now not early days.....

  • Absolutely beautiful! Hey Rikos, don't compare greats. That's just sophmoric. Blackmore has his gift and he gave it. Steve Morse is still giving!

  • I LIKE Steve Morse. But i LOVE Ritchie Blackmore!

Steve Morse is GOOD, but Ritchie Blackmore is the BEST!

Steve Morse is a good replacement voor Ritchie Blackmore for sure,

But Blackmore had a way more unique style of playing in my opinion.

  • Deep Purple forever.........

  • Heavenly!!!

  • i like playing guitar

  • Steve Morse undoubtibly blows Blackmore into the weeds skill wise imo but Deep purple will never be the same without Ritchie.

  • I have been a guitar player since 1977 and have been to numurous shows also add in the fact that i have nothing to prove to a nameless facelest poster.
