This is such a great vid! I LOVE this song and had most of it figured out but now I've nailed it perfectly thanks to you. Please don't EVER take it down!
it would be helpful if you could break it down more for us beginners but i'm sure better guitarist appreciate this vid cuz this is such a good jam and you play it very well.
This is wonderful. I could listen to this song all day...and have done so! And would like to do so again...LIVE! Great to hear your take on it and to see Jeff's participation. Thank you. Dan
The last run in the solo The 1st 3 notes are pulloff. Hit the F note and the next 2 notes are not struck but pulledoff 2nd finger 3rd fret 1st string (F) 1st finger 2nd fret 1st string (E) open 1st string (D) 3rd finger 5th fret 4th string (C) while the C is ringing, play the open 5th string for the (B) note hammer on for the last 2 notes on the 4th string open (G) and then 2nd fret for the A note... take yer thumb and slap the lower open strings for the low D triad (DAD) have at it!
The main riff which is repeated throughout the song has a hammer on. It's played just after the line, "Little Blind Fish" The movement between the chord where there is an open G string and when you put your 1st finger on the 2nd fret for the D (no 3) chord is a hammer on. i.e., you hit it once and while the chord is ringing with the open G you simply fret the A note (2nd fret G string) without restriking the guitar for the 2nd chord, creating a smoother languid lick.
An addition to the earlier post in regards to 2 simple corrections...
After the second time you play this (Gsus with the major 3rd added) in the chorus when you go to the F chord it's not voiced like you do on the video, but it is the same chord that you do show near the end of the solo
which is as follows:
First finger barring over the 3rd fret and strings 2 and 3 are played at the fifth fret by the 3rd and 4th fingers...
When the lyric in the chorus says... You're here....
the chord is as follows:
1st -High string open (D)
2nd -B string first finger on first fret (C)
3rd- G string third finger on 4th fret (B)
4th - D string open
.... if you hit the A string that's ok too
my thumb reach's around the neck to mute the low string on the top of the neck...the bass guitar plays the low G not the acoustic guitar (which was his addition to the chord!!)
You are prince for doing this! What an honor to have my guitar part as a lesson on Youtube. Thank you so much for taking the time to figure this stuff out. It's great to know that if I need to relearn what the hell I did, that I can come here for your lesson!!...heh heh.
I have one or two small corrections for you. though.
On the chorus there are 2 chords that are played differently.
Since there is a limit to the number of words I can print I will post another comment. Back in a mo.
oh wait, peevmania. are you jeff pevar himself? at least i guess that;s so because of youre precise corrections. well, if you really are, without being subservient, i love your guitarwork in CPR. its one of my top favourite groups. You probably know it better yourself, magic..

Nice Jeff - sign of a true star and gentleman. Not many people would have taken the trouble.

From top to bottom
1st Str-1st finger barring 3rd fret (F)
2nd str- 4th finger playing fret 5 (E)
3rd Str -3rd finger playing 5th fret (C)
4th, 5th and 6th str - 1st finger barring third fret
(F,C,F)
One of the wonderful things about this chord is you still have your middle finger to raise at the lead singer if you feel so inclined!
