Those are some interesting -and at times, ridiculous- looking weapons.  I commend your group's commitment, though. We only have a core group of about 4 or 5 guys who are actually dedicated to practice.

The point isn't to inflict pain on people. It's a sport/game of "lightest touch combat". In fact, if you are trying to inflict pain then you are doing it wrong.

It's just for fun.

There are people who use live blades and armor in the SCA, but that's something altogether different.
