  • i have used pocket knives with this with good results. i used to do it wrong and thought it didn't work but this video helped. thanks

  • now let's try you hand see if it will cut that lol

  • @sonicman26 o ya and r.i.p billy mays

  • your honing not sharping the knives.

  • If anyone would use one of these edge scrapers on my knives i would punch them

  • i dont get it wouldnt all that sharpening dull the samurai shark

  • hey jack remember when you said to rince the knife? when you use the the blade for the scissor and the last knife wont the the metal shaving get on food when you use it over the cutting borde

  • The Santa Ana joke was the best joke you've ever made!! I literally laughed out loud, very loudly in fact!! I think it's something only us Southern California people understand, soooo funny!!

  • you know, in the commercial, see when the person is cutting a sponge you can see that person used the BACKside of the knife for the first attempt then turned the knife around while the hand was out of the screen and then cut the sponge

  • get a sharpmaker or learn freehand or something, pullthroughs ruin edges

  • bj

  • RIP billy mays

  • jack, if you want to learn about sharpening search "cutlerylover spyderco sharpmaker" he teaches you how to use one of the best sharpening systems around. Every chef needs to know his knife. Also, stay away from these types of carbide sharpeners, they tear off metal from the blade roughly and don't give you a great edge. Nothing beats free hand sharpening. At the very least get a $5 sharpening stone, anything is better than this cheese.

  • not bad

  • :( billy mays

  • scalfani? so you can speak italian? io il samurai shark l'ho trovato ottimo..però quello scemo di mio padre l'ha rotto -_-

  • You should never use this kind of sharpener on your knives, they scrape away a lot of steel and makes your knife last a lot shorter. Just buy a cheap dual side stone wit one coarse side and one fine side, and do a coulple of passes on it with each side of the knife.

  • "time to do the samurai swoard" LOL!!!!!

  • i was watching pitch men one day and billy and the other guy said they dont pitch things that dont work

  • i'm gonna try it on a butter knife :D i have like 40 of them

  • my mom and i were watching this and the "concern" you have, mom says it's normal. when you sharpen a knife you are taking a whole side off. so the shavings on the shark is normal. that's just what my mom said

  • @angelpichu1 Tell your mom I said thank you.

  • @jakatak69 That sounds like an insult lol.

  • @jakatak69 Ha ha, thought you were gonna say something else. "tell your mom fk off!" jk. Love your vids man. i just got engaged so i need to learn to cook with my future child.

  • Unbelievable. Pay $12 and vandalise your knives. As the presenter said at the end, do not use this on good knives, see a professional sharpener and ask first. Watch their face as you show them the sharpener, and be prepared for a genuinely horrified response.

  • This may seem like a silly question but how often should you sharpen your knives? Just whenever they get dull?

  • i have noticed that all of the things billy mays makes usually works

  • ipad yay!

  • im sold...i'm a sucker for as seen on t.v. stuff lol but this looks good. wtg jak

  • can the samurai shark dull?

  • Tomato Planter box?

  • I made homemade pancakes this morning, I'm so proud of myself :D

  • Billy mays was almost always on point with the things he was hired to promote/sell rumor is he wouldnt take the job if the product was junk or didnt work for the sake of his name ....rip Billy mays

  • Hahaha, "Time to do the Samurai Sword"

  • Nice bling.

  • look its sharper now that i put more pressure on it wow!

  • 5 assholes dont know what are good food

  • i almost pissed myself on the last blooper... lol

  • jack is the hero of cooking

  • 12,001 viewer, what do i win lol

  • Definitely probably not the best for super expensive high end knives, but perfect for pretty much any other knife or blade.

  • can you use this with pocket knifes and such???

  • @TheMMAFREAK15 I think you can. Call the company and ask and let me know what they say. :D

  • @jakatak69 Better for your knife would be using a ceramic sharpener. If you don't wanna fork out a load of money for a good ceramic use the bottom of a good coffee mug! You'd be surprised how well it works, when I say a good coffee mug I mean make sure the bottom is very smooth ceramic with no chips or dirt. These special sharpeners usually remove a lot of metal from the blade edge, quite often changing the blade profile.

  • @TheMMAFREAK15 yes watch the cpmmercial

  • @TheMMAFREAK15 yes watch the commercial

  • @TheMMAFREAK15 the video shows it being used for a swiss army/pocket knife, :D

  • @TheMMAFREAK15 Yes it does it says so in the video

  • Sorry Jack. I have my knives picked up by the local knife company rep and they hone 'em for free. If need be, they'll regrind the bevel, then re-edge and hone 'em.

BTW, I have my initials stamped on all the blades near the hilt, so I can say there's never been any "knife swaping" going on by the company. ;-)

The Shark looks like something I'd get for all my el cheepo knives I have around, so I'll pick one up for them. :-)

  • @ricklude smart idea stamping your knives. I don't have a service like that. I have a machine that sharpens mine.

  • @jakatak69 you should do a "bloopers" video cause i lol alot on the bloopers XD

  • If I were in the intro, I would just pick up all the cookies and run, they look delicious.

  • men don't read directions ,we know what to do already

  • i have that ipad case

  • Nice little stab (heehee) at Santa Ana

  • Even though I just recently found your show, I already love it. You should try to get on food network!

  • @zingodoom same here, this guy's amazing!

  • THUMBS UP IF U THINK JACK SHOULD DO THE REDI SET GO

  • On the serrated blade I saw you only did one side, if the scallops on the serrations are on both sides you should do it on both sides or your going to kill the bevel on the blade.

  • @blinddesolation the blade was only angled on one side. the other side was not beveled. So I just sharpened the one side.

  • its good stuff i know i use it for getting my knife ready ... its more like a wisker but it trap the blade in it .. remember those witshire stay sharp knife that comme with a stand for the knife .. thats the same thing and remember what appened with those old knifes they where off after a wild ... so one piece of advise with knife is always buy them in double and use a soft surface that will not damage your edge ..

  • What did you do with the food?

  • Samurai shark+Miracle blade= WOLD DOMINATION!

  • Even if it is okay for good knives I would still use a whet stone for those, just so I can get the edge I am looking for.

  • 9:04 i never saw you so happy!!

  • billy maze here wit a nother fantastic product!!!!!!!!

  • LOL heres the directions...... THROW LOL :P

  • Hi Jack can you maybe do a sausage vid :)

  • weird if you see the commercial when he tries to cut the sponge. 1st cut he presses down the sponge but the 2nd time he doesn't. thats a trick to buy the product

  • Hey there Jack! I was on the edge of my chair hoping you wouldn't cut yourself. You didn't though, thank goodness. I would like to see a review on the OrGREENic pans. Aparently nothing will stick to them and you don't have to use and oils or butter. For some reason I don't believe it's possible. Lol. :)

  • Hey Jack. I'm gonna take a guess. Was that cardboard you cut from the Box from that Upside Down Tomato- Planter Thing? :P

  • @icedragon295 LOL. Good guess. Yes it was.

  • Dont use this on nice knives, it takes alot of steel off.

  • Jack, buddy, I am SOOOO proud of you! I practically held my breath through this whole episode, just waiting for you to lose a finger or something. But you did GREAT! :D WOOHOO!!! Also, it was a very good review. You used the sharpener on a good variety of blades, you used the blades on a variety of thicknesses and textures......very informative. I'm actually thinking about picking one up, so I can slice up some veggies for some Brunswick stew! ;)

  • @bamababy4913 thank you.

  • Just a thing that everybody should know, only sharpen your knives once every 6-12 months depending on the quality of the knife and if you use proper technique, because every time you sharpen it you lose a little bit of the edge and after some time it can render your knife useless, also most of the times people think their knives are dull, they aren't the edge is only bent so you are better off honing the blade.

BTW Jack have you tried a ceramic knife? It works wonders and never gets dull. =D

  • yay

  • Have you thought of trying this on the slapchop [if you still have it]

  • Comment removed

  • @JiraiyaXXX That's my hypothesis. I haven't finished this video yet xO

  • Hi Jack! I have an idea for the 100th episode. Chicago Style Hot Dogs! I saw a vid on Youtube and I made one myself, I must say it is quite tasty! Different as well. Check it out there are videos of it everywhere.

  • thank you jack for the tip

  • BOOM getting one

  • Also I noticed in another of your vids that you preferred that knife at 9:40 It's because of its serrations. When people have dull knives, they find that they always have to slice rather than cut. Serrated blades were designed for that purpose. Plain blades though are designed for shearing cuts and a bit of slicing and push cutting. Straight edge blades are designed for push cutting. Thus normal people prefer serrated blades to, say, an usuba because the usuba wasn't made for slicing.

  • The samurai shark takes advantage of people's gullibility. It will get your knives kinda sharp but not to the razor sharpness as shown in the commercial. It will be sharp enough to get your knife to cut through most things with enough effort but never to the point of being able to push cut. You'll always be stuck slicing and thus your cutting will always be slow. Considering you seem to be into culinary, I'd suggest you start learning how to sharpen knives on a stone/sandpaper.

  • Oh Jak, another thing about in the PM when you look in the magnification, that's after cleaning it. Those little teeth can easily break off, and you'll be eating small pieces of metal with your food. A properly honed blade will have almost a mirror finish on the edge, and one way to tell when you have a really sharp knife, is the edge should feel "sticky" almost. Like it bites into your skin.

  • Billy Mays products always work.

  • wow just to say i live near you cuz i live in Cerritos ca lol not very farrrrr

  • pfft!, Wushtof are NOT high end fancy knives lol.

    Get a Shun <3

  • can u make a video on how to make salsa

  • @alvinremixmaster08 I am definitely making one of those videos on salsa. Not sure when, yet.

  • another great product review

  • did you realzie when you charpened the serrated knife the metal shavings went right on the cutting board so rinsing it off was kinda useless :O

  • what happens if ur scissors are to dull to cut it open

  • Thanks for showing my omelet! It would be neat if you compared this to a "regular" knife sharpener to see if it works any better. I am also curious about the ware on the knife after frequent use.

    Great video, keep them coming.

  • lol, downtown santa anna

  • Comment removed

  • man u really love cutting up that cardboard huh

  • haha; all that effort to get the manual, just to throw it out!

    thats the jack scalfani style

  • You should slice tomatoes with a serrated knife. Other than that, awesome episode.

  • @300Z31 I know, but it was a good test to show the dull edge.

  • @jakatak69 Very very true. This thing seemed pretty impressive. I think I might take a trip to the ASOTV store in the mall and buy one.

  • yaaaaay im on the show :D

  • These bloopers give us insight into how much of a perfectionist you are, Jack. :)

  • if you keep using that jak it will eventually stuff up your knife not only are you getting wrong angles you are lossing metel everytime you do that and also will make you wanna keep sharping more offen and Thor Maxx its a honing steel which is used for just that honing. not sharpening just honing. for all anyone who wants good sharpening system and very easy to use and cheap google in Spyderco 204MF Tri-Angle Sharpmaker System or check on youtube for some videos great product Spyderco 204MF

  • wait... what if i like metal shavings in my food?

  • I sent a pic in of my chili a while back but it never got posted in an episode. Feels bad man. I guess my cooking looks awful haha.

  • @Swordth I will look for it. I show all food when I can. nothing is too bad.

  • ahh haha u said bj

  • ahh haha bj

  • Another amazing video.

  • Another super vid....!!! Thanks!

  • Get a Sharpening Rod. Their often made of Metal or Ceramic and won't kill your expensive knifes.

  • With the steak knife test I almost exited the video because I've used the same cheap dull paring knife I bought from wally world for 4 years now and it's not that hard! Just poke the skin of the tomato with the point and then cut!

  • it was sold by billy mays of corse it works..... (Rip billy mays)

  • the carbon sticks that thormaxx is talking about is called a steel it doesn't sharpened your knife but keeps your knife sharp

  • Have you ever cut your finger?

  • @rerundadog Lol yes, look at the Miracle Blade review.

  • @rerundadog yes. watch my miracle blades 3 episode.

  • Hey jack, greetings from Miami! I went once to sacramento, california as well as san fransisco. in san fransisco there is this burger chain called red robin's. They are amazing and im dying to go there again. the only problem is that its far away. It would be a good jack-on-the-go show if you havent gone there thanks!

  • @DT1994xx101 red robins are everywhere. look one up in your area on the websight. i just looked it up and there are 6 in florida.

  • i'm thoroughly enjoying your bloopers

  • just one comment, i know this is just a demonstration, but sharpening the blades over the cutting area kinda defeats the purpose of rinsing the metal filings off the blade afterward

  • @aric126 yeah. pretty stupid of me. I was told that by a few people. Normally I do it over the sink but I was filming so I stayed in front of the camera. sorry.

  • I love how u spend some time getting the directions than u just ended throwing them to the side :)

  • Somebody is definitely getting this for christmas from me.

  • Jack: The shavings are essential for sharpening. Sharpening is basically, creating a new blade for the knife, because the blade originally on it has corroded, or acid has eaten it. If it is bent, Then you would use the steel blade ting (called a "Honing steel") to place it back into place. But the shavings are definitely supposed to be there, and is perfectly normal. Besides, knives aren't supposed to last your whole lifetime.

  • @hayama317 wow. you really helped me a lot. I feel better now. I was a little worried.

  • I just thought, what if you used this on the slap chop? O_o

  • HE will be remem(beard) ^_^

  • That reminds me, what did you do with the Miracle Blade set?

  • @orion1954 I sent them back. I had a set of knives already or I would have kept them.

  • OMG i loved it and the bloopers. !!!

  • Billy mays never fails us

  • SAMURAI SWORD LMFAO :D

  • 12:04 - It's time to fall down.

  • hey jack i made rice pudding but my rice pudding sticked together and it tasted more like eggs

  • @smartcheetah1 you poured the eggs in to fast which cooked the eggs and the rice should not have sticked together at all unless you weren't stirring constantly. Try tempering the eggs in next time. This is when you take a bowl of rice pudding from the pot. Blend the eggs into that bowl mixture first then put the whole bowl mix back into the pot with the rest. This is called tempering. That should blend your eggs better.

  • Jak I sent you a PM about the samurai shark, and how it's exactly bad for you knife.

  • @death8796 I will look at it. That's why I mentioned the warning for people to consult with their local knife store. Does it work? yes. Is it good for high end knives? I wasn't sure.

  • Me and my mom love these videos. Thank you!

  • 3 test... 4 test lol.. funny

  • I have a mini panic attack (in a good way) every time you put up a new video!

  • aww i miss the days when i would watch my tv guide channel to see what was on and hearing BILLY MAYS HERE WITH MIGHTY PUTTY now i have to listen to vince offer

  • I Hope I'm Not The Only One Who Thinks Those Cookies At The Intro Look Delicious. O.O

  • Jack, are you no longer affiliated with the Best Sauces? I've noticed your apron is either turned around or a different one without the logo, and you don't have the commercial in your show anymore. Either way, I love the videos. Next time I make my spaghetti sauce I will have to take pictures and share them with you.

  • @azbobbybooshay10 I don't promote the sauces all the time. viewers will get irritated. I own the company, so I am not leaving the best sauces soon. :D

    look forward to pics. thanks.

  • Ever since i saw the slap chop review and a view other vids i always look forward to watching your videos :)

  • awww, sweet success! finally! lol.. great show, jack ol' boy =)

  • Great review and advice.

  • i like the paint in the background :P

  • "Time to do the Samurai Sword" lol

  • Man I love your vids Jack, its just a shame that we don't get like 80% of the products here in the UK... but then we have Irn Bru so I guess its a fair trade lol

  • lol i live in downtown santa ana o-o

  • @TrippyR4v3R yeah baby. Gotta shout out to the crime lords in OC. LOL

  • MY KNIFE NEVER WANTS TO CUT THROUGH...ONIONS.

  • @BostonSecret45 Well u need the Samurai Shark lol

  • Lol nice shot at Downtown Santa Ana.

  • Are you going to do the gt Xpress ready set go or whatever it was called jack?

  • msbj lol :D

  • msbj10 ? :D:D

  • Don't let one person stop you from doing your "regular guy" product reviews Jack. I find them all entertaining, useful, and informative, becuase a lot of stuff you get comes off the TV, and a lot of times its hit or miss, but it looks like the Samurai Shark is a winner.

  • maybe you should clean your knifes bevore sharpening them..

  • congrats jack u went through the entire episode without cutting yourself=)

  • RIP billy mays.

  • your bad at cutting :P

  • @22694nayeem really? I have only mentioned that on 10 different episodes. I will be doing an episode on Knife skills where someone will teach me and everyone else how to use a knife properly.

  • @jakatak69 looking forward to it!

  • those people in this commercial-vid are so funny haha.. i bet they have never used a knife before

  • Those Sharpening tools arent bad. But please NEVER use them on high quality knives.

You definately gonna chip the edge of the blade. For most people its not obvious, but if your a "knive freak" like me, you gonna notice that.

Only sharpen those with a knive sharpening stone.

Also never use the rods for real high quality knives.

High quality starts for me at 80USD for one knive !

I can't do a video of how to use the rod and the stone, but want some pictures jack?

  • @djteac yes. Pics would do. email me at: info (at) givemefoods (dot) com

  • This is what really sucks about england, we dont get half the nice products you get.

  • Somebody is fishing for Billy maze job

  • lol samurai shark the 2 deadly thing combined 0_0

  • Can you test the yoshi blade? Ive heard its great...
