  • @dartist1979 This was the first record I ever bought when I was 7. Can you remember what the B-side was?

  • @dartist1979 I remember we were allowed to play this record in our art class in school when it came out - our art teacher asked if we were playing it at the right record speed, kids who only know DVD's probably don't understand that at all. We were so insulted at that insinuation!!!!

  • David is a lovely, talented, grounded man, with talent coming out his ears...but he can't dance worth a damn, bless him. But in fairness. he has always admitted that.

  • Still rocking on: good on you, David!

  • we really do not appreciate the tallent that is Mr Essex, still recording, writing own musicals, acting, how many other british stars can match that or come anywhere near. keep rocking David

  • This is a top song. I like the bit where he sings, "baby would I look right in my daddy's drainpipes." Great song.

  • The line is 'Baby would I look right, climbing up your drainpipe' hon

    Julie xxx

  • Hi hun....I think you will find it's.......

" Ooh, baby, would I look right

    Climbing up the drainpipe "

  • Soft-Pop as his best!

  • o.m.g.this was the first vynal 45 i ever boughht...

    when i was 12...

  • Isn't he gorgeous!?

  • this guy has been making music since the early 70s, how many acts today will still be at it in 40 years!! rock on david!

  • kyllä 70-luku oli parasta musaa ja miehet oli sitä jotain...ihana David

  • Despite his handsome face, i'm not much of a fan of David Essex. But this song itself is not a bad one. From all the David Essex fans in the world: (not me!) THANK YOU!!! :-)

  • I played the album with this and "Rock on"on it until it wore out!! He was amazing!!

  • Still sounds good even today - he was and is a star - and wasn't he pretty! Love him to bits

  • A classic performance, this is one of his best ever songs!

  • goodness me, i remember dancing to this at my 1st year xmas disco in 1973.

i always had a soft spot for david essex, actually a talented guy, decent singer and pretty good actor.

  • Happy New Year David. Best: Johnny

  • David Essex never took himself seriously. The "Super Pop Star" thing was all tongue in cheek, but Wow, he did it well! Great bloke and a super performer. I was jealous of his looks as a teenage lad.

  • ..and punk lasted less than a year THEN died while essex is still going strong.THANK GOD!

  • Comment removed

  • who is "we"?

  • Nice! I've never seen this performance before!

  • was n't he a gypsie or something?

  • Don't give wizardspocket a thumbs down for that - he does have Romany blood - he said so himself. So yes, he is part gypsy.

  • My uncle was the spitting image of him in the mid 80's and he had a caravan in St. Oysths in Essex, I used to go there for the summer hols and we always had the girls following us about !

  • Watch Tony Blackburn half heartedly attempting to dance when he knows the camera is on him!!!! Out of all the presenters I think the only ones to engage consistently in the dancing were Jimmy Savile and Dave Lee Travis with often hilarious results!!!

  • lol look at all the teenage girls standing round the stage gazing dreamily up at him! I would have done the same if I would have been there.

  • dont care his old enough to me dad-- i think his lovely

  • almost forgot this tune . for some reason i heard this in my dreams last night so i thought id hunt it out thanks for the post ...

  • He sung this in concert a few days ago, and it was a brilliant performance!

  • bolan died you were his rival rock on david sexy i mean essex

  • He was Gorgeous!! & Still Sexy!

  • essex was not bolans anything! he was a traveller! worked on the fairs etc.

  • David Essex is good but he's not as legendary as Marc who was a singer, songwriter, musician, poet!

  • Er so who is David Essex then? He does everything that Marc did only he's much, much better looking

  • Ok, so what famous songs did David Essex write then? Answers on a postcard please.

  • Ever heard of Rock On, he wrote that one, he also co wrote the west End play Mutiny. He's recorded 23 albums and countless singles, appeared in no end of stage plays and musicals. need I say more, oh yes and he is still better looking!! Seriously, joking aside I'm not knocking Marc Bolan, they are both talented in their own right,it's only that I prefer david, each to their own eh, truce?

  • Yes you are right, David did write most of his own songs and in some ways he was more versatile than Marc because he was a very good actor on stage and in film. Peace!!

  • David was just another pretty faced pop singer like Cassidy, not a pioneer in the way Marc Bolan was. I like David Essex especially in his films Stardust and That'll be the day.

  • was in love with him when i was 15 at school im now 45 and still in love. thank you.

  • Haha I think we are about the same age and I remember all the girls falling in love with him and all us boys trying to look like him . Great memories of the 70s

  • The epitome of cool!

  • thank you thank you xxx

  • Vintage TotP apperance, great song.

  • its was great then but even better now

  • I think they have his pic under the word gorgeous in the dictionary

  • GOrgeous, I heard he was Marc Bolan's cousin, is it true anyone know?

  • I can assure you he isn't.

  • Bolan was a different sexy....White Swan, lovely. Essex is sexy, lovely and classy, still is. I wish Bolan were still alive to see how he would be now. Peace.

  • OMG I had posters of him all over my bedroom when I was a teen! Those twinkly blue eyessssssssss lol

  • Oh he is soooooooooo gorgeous - think he knows it too, the way he looks into that camera lol!

If ever there was a born performer, it's David Essex!

Don't ever retire Mr.Essex - you've got more talent in your little finger than most stars of today could ever dream of - and you're still GORGEOUS!!!

Thanks to evanswho for posting this clip.

  • Oooh what a hunk of gorgeousness - thanks for posting this :)
