Sorry to say Seth Rogen ruined this film. Making the Green Hornet characters as a comedy was terrible. I am glad I rented this movie instead of seeing it in the movie theatre. The TV series is much much better than this trash. Sorry. I just did not enjoy it. It was an insult to the character.
Really? I saw it in 3D with my girlfriend and I thought it was really boring.. It's the second movie in my life that I ever walked out of the movie theater. I got.. Um... I got up to the part where his dad dies and he's in his office[/the dad's former office] and just kind of like "Hm..... Newspaper........." and then he leaves in a huff.. And.. I pretty much did the same.
Then again, maybe I was annoyed because I can't see 3D..

The Movie is an Awful "Campy" send-up of the 60's series-Whoever let Seth write this should be Fired...Don't waste your money on "Frat-Boy Hornet"...I'm glad I'm only out 5 Bucks on a 5.00 Bootleg Dvd...there is Sooo Much that could've been done with the Green Hornet if the writing was the same as "The Dark Knight"..All we got instead was a Goofball comedy...even the Bad Guy was weak!

I can see why this film would not bother someone who is not familiar w/ the character at all. How will fans of the Green Hornet will take this film? Well, it's a little like being offered an ice cream cone & then kicked in the kahunas instead! Sure I know it's a fictional character, but how would you like your childhood heroes portrayed as a selfish, cowardly, dork... ouch! Nothing 'fresh' about this. I was in stitches! I love the 10 minute slapstick scene. I think I enjoyed it so much cause I was with my friend and we laughed throughout! We had no idea what it was about either xD

The Two Jews On Film were not crazy about this film. We gave it a couple of bagels. Didn't like Seth Rogen thought he was one note. Couldn't buy him as a crime fighter. He was way out of shape. technally vigilantes are villains,, A vigilante is someone who illegally punishes an alleged lawbreaker, Vigilantism is frowned upon by official agencies ( police ) they live a villain lifestyle, therefor vigilante is the most justificated word for it. the only word.. or were you thinking super hero? xD
@rob89234 I think you're trying to say that a vigilante is a -criminal-, not a villain. Vigilantes are criminals, but not necessarily villains. For instance, Batman is a vigilante and technically a criminal because he is not a sanctioned peacekeeping agency, but he is not playing the part of a traditional villain (whereas the Green Hornet is, because he is trying to become the head of the city's mob). At least that's what I think, haha!

mances, Waltz is uninspired and a major disappointment after Inglourious Basterds. I read he replaced Nic Cage at the last minute (filming had already begun) and thus came into the project unprepared. It shows, I'm afraid.
Michel Gondry is an awesome film-maker and I had high hopes when I heard he was directing. But this script is too thin for him to turn it into something great.
I really liked the look of the film though. Set design, props, costumes, camerawork etc. are excellent.
The humor does not help the movie, the humor destroys the movie. Most of the jokes are lame. They should have concentrated on developing the character of Britt Reid, he remains two-dimensional throughout the film.
The fight scenes are done well, but there's nothing you haven't seen dozens of times since The Matrix came out. To compare it to a similar movie, Kick-Ass did this (and a lot more) so much better.

I thought Jay's (Kato) accent was adorable in the trailer too :) Though he's an incredible musician and director, and not as well-known as an actor, I'm really looking forward to watching him in this movie. I am a fan of the old TV show, but the trailer for this looked hilarious. And Seth is always hilarious. Your review made me wish even more for January to come soon. Thank you!

that "Chinese guys" name is Jay Chou. Hes this really big singer/actor in Asia. In the comic (Kevin Smiths Version) Kato is a woman. Im Glad they didnt go that route and stayed true to the TV Show by keeping Kato Male. Im a HUGE fan of his TV Incarnation Mostly because He was played by the Legendary Bruce Lee. In the TV show he was pure BAD ASS. Even overshadowing the Green Hornet in popularity. I dont get the same vibe from Jay although i dont blame him, NO ONE IS AS BAD ASS AS BRUCE LEE. haha.
@EricScissorh4nds Heres some Trivia Further exploring the fact that Kato is the real star of the Green Hornet series, without him Britt Reid would be dead in less than 24 hours. Notice the character had even appeared or has been referenced more times than Green Hornet ever was in other media. EX. (Kill Bills crazy 88, Jet Li 's character in "Black Mask", Donnie Yen aswell in "Legend f the Fist".) The Green Hornet was even renamed "The Kato Show" in China & Japan.

I've watched clips of Bruce Lee as Kato - he was awesome, and definitely different than Chou, but Chou still did a great job in a new way. The movie makes it VERY clear that Reid wouldn't stand a chance without Kato's help, so no worries! He really did steal the show in a lot of parts (especially the action scenes). another remake for the dumb ass crowd. american humor has become fratboy idiot humour. cheap gags.. i prefer subtle non cringe induciing humoir for a movie that was originally more serious. i prefer the subtle humour at;least it wont make a mockery of somebody favourite tv, or comic book. but oh no american just shove thier stupid pratfalls in movies.

The Two Jews On Film were not crazy about this film. We gave it a couple of bagels. Didn't like Seth Rogen thought he was one note. Couldn't buy him as a crime fighter. He was way out of shape. Car chases were so generic. But it's great you liked it. You had a better experience than us. Check out our full review on Youtube or on our web site. You'll laugh, I promise. We're ex New Yorkers.

technally vigilantes are villains,, A vigilante is someone who illegally punishes an alleged lawbreaker, Vigilantism is frowned upon by official agencies ( police ) they live a villain lifestyle, therefor vigilante is the most justificated word for it. the only word.. or were you thinking super hero? xD

@rob89234 I think you're trying to say that a vigilante is a -criminal-, not a villain. Vigilantes are criminals, but not necessarily villains. For instance, Batman is a vigilante and technically a criminal because he is not a sanctioned peacekeeping agency, but he is not playing the part of a traditional villain (whereas the Green Hornet is, because he is trying to become the head of the city's mob). At least that's what I think, haha!

mances, Waltz is uninspired and a major disappointment after Inglourious Basterds. I read he replaced Nic Cage at the last minute (filming had already begun) and thus came into the project unprepared. It shows, I'm afraid.
Michel Gondry is an awesome film-maker and I had high hopes when I heard he was directing. But this script is too thin for him to turn it into something great.
I really liked the look of the film though. Set design, props, costumes, camerawork etc. are excellent.

I just saw the movie and couldn't disagree more.
The humor does not help the movie, the humor destroys the movie. Most of the jokes are lame. They should have concentrated on developing the character of Britt Reid, he remains two-dimensional throughout the film.
The fight scenes are done well, but there's nothing you haven't seen dozens of times since The Matrix came out. To compare it to a similar movie, Kick-Ass did this (and a lot more) so much better.

I thought Jay's (Kato) accent was adorable in the trailer too :) Though he's an incredible musician and director, and not as well-known as an actor, I'm really looking forward to watching him in this movie. I am a fan of the old TV show, but the trailer for this looked hilarious. And Seth is always hilarious. Your review made me wish even more for January to come soon. Thank you!

that "Chinese guys" name is Jay Chou. Hes this really big singer/actor in Asia. In the comic (Kevin Smiths Version) Kato is a woman. Im Glad they didnt go that route and stayed true to the TV Show by keeping Kato Male. Im a HUGE fan of his TV Incarnation Mostly because He was played by the Legendary Bruce Lee. In the TV show he was pure BAD ASS. Even overshadowing the Green Hornet in popularity. I dont get the same vibe from Jay although i dont blame him, NO ONE IS AS BAD ASS AS BRUCE LEE. haha.

@EricScissorh4nds Heres some Trivia Further exploring the fact that Kato is the real star of the Green Hornet series, without him Britt Reid would be dead in less than 24 hours. Notice the character had even appeared or has been referenced more times than Green Hornet ever was in other media. EX. (Kill Bills crazy 88, Jet Li 's character in "Black Mask", Donnie Yen aswell in "Legend f the Fist".) The Green Hornet was even renamed "The Kato Show" in China & Japan.

@EricScissorh4nds This is one of those extremely rare times were the "sidekick" is BETTER than the actual super hero. Actually, i believe its the ONLY time were the "side kick" is BETTER than the leading super hero. Mainly because he can kick harder, higher, and faster than the Green Hornet. lulz.

@EricScissorh4nds Oh I know about Jay Chou! I guess I should've mentioned his name in the video, haha. I've watched clips of Bruce Lee as Kato - he was awesome, and definitely different than Chou, but Chou still did a great job in a new way. The movie makes it VERY clear that Reid wouldn't stand a chance without Kato's help, so no worries! He really did steal the show in a lot of parts (especially the action scenes). Thanks for all the info! :D I think you'll really enjoy the film.
