According to the IIHF rulebook, the goaly isn't a normal player outside his box, you can hit the goaly by accident but even this will generate 2 minutes penalty unless you are trying to avoid it, which Esposito didn't do, however this would never had and effect on the game, Canada won because they were the better team. and Markstrom never divied, try to get hit in the head or lossing controll of a leg in highspeed, u will fall down, no doubts about it.Otherwise it was a nice summary, thanks.

Also, while I think that Markstrom is great and will be a star in the NHL, in this particular tournament Jaroslav Janus of Slovakia was the best goalie. He was nothing short of amazing in games vs. the US and Sweden. He was the difference (along with Tomas Tatar) between them playing in the relegation round as everyone expected them to and the medal round.
Congrats to Canada. As a fan of Russia I still can't get over Klopov's fuckup, but he played a great game otherwise. It's just there was no one on him and he could've easily skated it over the red line, probably for an almost sure empty netter. That would have been game over for Canada.

Also, while I think that Markstrom is great and will be a star in the NHL, in this particular tournament Jaroslav Janus of Slovakia was the best goalie. He was nothing short of amazing in games vs. the US and Sweden. He was the difference (along with Tomas Tatar) between them playing in the relegation round as everyone expected them to and the medal round.

Congrats to Canada. As a fan of Russia I still can't get over Klopov's fuckup, but he played a great game otherwise. It's just there was no one on him and he could've easily skated it over the red line, probably for an almost sure empty netter. That would have been game over for Canada.
I have to disagree about Markstrom. While he embellished the contact Canadian player ran him every chance they got. You'd be screaming bloody murder if someone did that to your goalie.

touching the goalie, they normaly get 2 mins for that? not when its canada, if sweden did the same thing to canada = 2+10 mins. i wonder how much the canadiens payed the referee. whole europe wonder. Cody Hodgson, should have been the MVP, Tavares was invisible this tournament. But he´s ranked #2 in the draft so thats why he got the MVP, not for hes playing. Canada is not a sportsnation, it´s a fiasco!

You really don't know hockey do you? John Tavares invisible? Yeah, he only tied the Canadian record for scoring, and led the tournament in points! I've said many times before, there were PLENTY of calls against Canada, the refereeing was blatantly pro-Swedish. Plus, the Swedes were diving all game.
Cody Hodgson was a good player, and he easily could have gotten MVP, as could have Eberle. It went to Tavares because he was lighting the lamp like no other.

so you really think it was a dive when esposito hit markstrom.i mean just watch it again,he hits him with his knee out.. should of course be a penalty20 sec later he scores?. What aabout when markstrom heads for the benge during a delayed penalty he clearly gets a hit.the canadian guy Clearly NOT trying to avoid hitting him..Its ok that the crowd is boing the oppossing teams best players, but booing markstrom at the priceceromoni? Markstrom was legitimately hit by Esposito by mistake. But he embellished. He acted as if he had just gotten knocked out. Give me a break. Do you really think it wasn't a dive when a Swedish player bumped Markstrom and he threw himself backward?
And about the Della Rovere hit, you're right Steffan didn't avoid it, but neither did Markstrom.
Markstrom acted like a punk all game, and THAT's why he got booed.

Uhm, I don't know if you've ever watched hockey before last night, but you cannot call a penalty every single time a goalie is knocked down, especially when it's the guys own fault. He's not in his crease, Esposito was FLYING down the side there. And the crowd booed Markstrom because he was acting like a soccer player out there.

I wish I could have pride in Team USA... and for more than just hockey.
I am normally a supporter of the underdogs (the Sweds in this case because - five years - Canada, we get it, you're good at hockey)... But if half my team is either Canadian or Swedish, maybe I should route for both.

Markstrom dove everywhere except in front of the puck. Do the Swedes have no discipline? 2 Canadian PP goals because of silly penalties taken by Swedes. Wonder if they knew the significance of not taking bad penalties against the tournaments best PP team. Canada was clearly the better team

The fact that the Russian player made that mistake proves that Russia is inferior. Bad hockey teams and bad players make bad decisions and mistakes. The ability to capitalize on those mistakes is a hallmark of good teams.

Yeah I'm a Canadian and i'm glad they won, but the whistle shouldve been blown, the goale was down and if that happened in the canada end, then the whistle wouldve been blown, just a fact, son, and yes, 6 for next year!!
