Thank you for sharing your story Joseph (Hey, my partners name is Joseph, he is older than me by 20 years and we love each other a ton). Best wishes to you on your journey through life!!
Thankyou for posting your story. Many of the things you said resonate with my own experiences and it's good that u-tube has memories from before the internet age.
Hey, ANOTHER wonderful, well-thought-out video. I need to start doing ones more like this!
By the way, I came out in October 1994 and stupidly listened to A LOT of people who told me NOT to be "too out" or "too gay." Some of them were co-workers, others were family members and some were even some of my fellow out gay men. To that kind of attitude, I say BULLSHIT!!! I will BE who I AM for the REST OF MY LIFE!!!!
Being of a similar age, I am very moved and relate to your stories. Especially moved by you sitting in that room, whispering your affirmation of identity... by that time I was a little ahead, I was taking all my straight friend to the gay bar, and they enjoyed it much more than the straight ones...
I think YouTube in general has more younger people, and younger posters just because the technology is new.
Of course there's agism, sizeism and a lot of other isms, but I've found that there are lots and lots of guys of various ages and sizes etc. who like men like me.
Congratulation on making a video. It's good to hear from an older lgbt person on youtube. It must have been very, very hard in those days to a gay person. I was beginning to think youtube only featured young gay people. I would like to hear from older gay people and their experiences. Do you think that there is a kind of ageism within the gay world? Thank you.
I am rolling on the floor laughing my ass off - OK, no I'm not but I thought about it. "Do you think there is a kind of ageism in the gay world?"
We are the original ageists, wisenatts. I love the G&L community, but we are terribly concerned with age and appearance and it is relentless and insidious. I am an older gay man now and I have a partner and have had for a long time, but I would hate to be an older man alone in the gay world now.
The original ageists from a socially indoctrinated standpoint would firstly have been women. Why? because the media targeted women, and women, population-wise are more existent than homosexuals. Think of the 1950's and it's relation with how women were to behave and look.
