My God this IS exactly how I feel. I'm sooo angry and hurt by this world, but yet, I want it to change which means somewhere in me that i'm STILL hopeful for it....Todd seems to have a song for evey joy and conflicting emotion.Wish it were as simple as my singing this song.Thank you, ''JoeF''
I love this song. Todd is just so special. I met him last week and he was the sweetest man,so gracious and funny, down to earth . He can still rock the house on his guitar better than most young rockers around nowadays. His voice still sounds amazing also! I thank goodness I got to finally see him perform and meet him in person after admiring him for so long.
This album came out when I was four years old and my mom got it since she was (still is) a big Todd Rundgren fan, so this is really one of the very very first songs I got really familiar with, and I don't think I've heard it since I was seven. I know they say that the sense of smell is most linked to memory, but I think this makes a big case for linking music to memory!
Haven't heard this song in ages.. thanks for posting. Reminds me of the Newtek Video Toaster demo reel... Todd used that application to animate the music video for this song.
Nope the song has nothing to do with abortion>>>>>TODD IZ GODD to some of us....and he is the only person who has been blessed with ability to speak from one soul to another.....not many will ever be able to do that in any artistic way...Thank you,Todd...just me ..Marcia
...I first saw him in san francisco on a club tour around 1980-he had a tape player,guitar/piano and himself-was brilliant....i remember a female fan up front melting in a puddle of tears and sobbing ..."TODD,TODD!!"...It was kinda startling, yet touching...but by the end of the show I could feel where she was coming from...he's got a gift...
Was that the "Kabuki Theatere"? I was at a solo concert I would put '81, he played acoustic, and electrric and sang, did some piano and sang, then the tape machine at the end...great tour.
I'm thinking it was at The Warfield - again I'm not sure of the year in the early '80's....One of those years he also played at The Greek Theatre in Berkeley with Utopia- another great show....damn :long time ago,now !
love todd and love this song too. i'v seen him live many times and have to say people are very quick to criticise . he's living in a fabulous house in hawaii with his beautiful wife and kids and still touring every year. liars was a fab album. how many of you have achieved as much as todd ? enough said .
without ytube i never would have explored his work. really an extrodinary talent. just goes his own way with his own vision. saw him once in a restaurant i was working in. he was with darryl hall. no one but me knew who he was!
One of Todd's best songs from one of his best albums. I give him credit for always doing challenging material on Letterman's show. How many pickup bands could pull off "The Waiting Game"? Great.
check out the live in chicago '91 cd for great versions of second wind and nearly human songs. as well as other great stuff. it is my fave tr recording.
After all these years and his brilliant body of work, he deserves to record an album on a cheap tape recorder naked in his back yard if he thinks it'll sound good. Oh, this is my favorite song on "2nd Wind" by the way. :)
2nd Wind wasn't over produced - it was over rehearsed -- compare it to the "Live" side 4 of Something/Anything and the difference in the grove is phenomenal -- to me 2nd Wind is the Sound Pink Floyd was going for on 'Shine on You Crazy Diamond' -- Still 'Change Myself' is a beautiful song.
I see Michelle Rundgren comments on some of the Todd video in here BarbaraGrace. And being she was one of those half naked singers, I'm sure she would tell you about how hard she tried to get the rest of the band to dress down as well!
Love the song and love Todd, but what's the deal with the half naked women? I'm not a prude; it just makes me wonder, where are the half naked men? Sorry but it reeks of sexual discrimination. I expect a lot more from Todd!
Well, if the critics got that impression, Todd shares some of the blame for that. He wanted to do more stuff like "The Individualist," but Warner Bros. wanted an album with singles. He more or less just made this as a way to get out of his contract with them.
Sort of like TEPTAE. Same thing with Rhino\Bearsville. Only a wizard or a true star makes great albums while trying to get out of record company-contracts
True. It's just a shame he lost it right after that. The only album I've even been able to listen to after "2nd Wind" was "One Long Year," and only after a second listen. I appreciate Todd's desire to grow as an artist, but the sad fact is that it's not selling records. Ask anyone but a devoted Rundgren fan what his last album was, they probably couldn't tell you.
The problem is that radio programmers won't even listen to his new stuff. Todd keeps growing and changing, and they've decided that he's a nostalgia act...never mind that his most recent album "Liars" is the best thing he's done in 20+ years.
I've heard bits and pieces of "Liars," and I'm singularly unimpressed. I think that "One Long Year" will be my only post-major label TR album.
I did, however, check out both "A Wizard, a True Star" and "The Ever Popular Tortured Artist Effect," and fell in love with both albums. True, both albums had real clunkers, but songs like "Don't Hurt Yourself," and "International Feel" totally make up for that.
True perfection in expressing emotion from one end of the scale to the other in such a masterfully way. Thank you for changing my life.

just to name a few.
