Sure, this quality is about the same as that of a mid-range camcorder or the Canon EOS 500D (Rebel T1i). Moreover, high-end camcorders can autofocus while filming. However, that is possible with an AE button on the Canon 500D. Plus, with a high-end camcorder you can film fluent 1080p movies, which is not possible with either a d90 or 500d. Thus, you absolutely can buy a camcorder producing better output than this.
one thing most dslr has issue is focus on fast moving subject and crappy sound (only high dslr has stereo sound) whole most low dslr whta shoot video only has mono and no mic support.
Cool! Just wish my computer worked better when I click on HD as there's some lag, very frustrating. May have to get another laptop as I have 2G Ram now and still doesn't play smoothly. I'm getting my D5000 and look forward to shooting video. Very nice video here. Thanks!
Here's a tip-I'm getting better HD viewing while using Mozilla Firefox, in comparison to IE or Google Chrome. Maybe I'll keep my laptop after all! So try Firefox if you are experiencing significant lag or 'choppy' HD viewing on your computer.
On another note: D90 is highest ranked DSLR in its class by major consumer reporting organization. But I was willing to sacrifice some AF compatibility features by getting the D5000 at a lower price point.
{cont'd)...with respect to VIDEO features in a digital camera, I think my Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3 is going to outrank the D90 and D5000 in many respects., If you want to forego DSLR cost and features you might want to look into this wonderfully-reviewed camera.
Can anyone tell me why when I use the D-Movie function, black horizontal lines keep going across the video. Does anyone else experience this and how can I reduce/remove it?
Great video, obviously the colours and natural light reproduction is excellent. Ummm, about the food though, that piece of meat looks overcooked on the outside (it's black!) and undercooked in the centre (it's red!). Hope you didn't have to eat it...
straight vertical lines become curved, it is a CMOS effect, which for example is not present in RED ONE. It ruins the video in a sense that it cannot be used for a professional production. I always see which shot is made by which camera holding method. Most of the shots are made on steady cam. ca 10 percent are dolly shots. Crane shots are usually only a few, bunch of handheld shots. As example Wrestler was shot handheld completely. BTW I live in Los Angeles and I am a camera operator.
I have it. Its fantastic, but the micro jack could be usefull. But! Its a great camera, when you know how to handle it its a PRO. and please dont say anybody, that d300 is better..I have shoted with it and its not that good at all. Just "d90" with magnesium body :P
I have the D90 too and love it dearly, but to say the D300 is no better is just plain ignorance. Off the top of my head I don't know a huge deal of infomation about the D300 but for an example of what it can do that the D90 can't is MLU. Mirror Lock-Up, for preventing camera shake. Totally unimportant if you don't know or care about it, but for some people it would (and is) a total deal breaker.
It doesnt shoot slow motion and I dont think the image stabilizer works for the video function. As is evidenced by my cab ride video im about to post... check it out
as with all nikon cameras, the VR or stabilization all depends on lenses, so no, the D90 will never stabilize by itself. and since Nikon told us it shoots 24p, no, it doesn't shoot "slow-motion".
if you want slow motion in a smaller camera, get the exilim EX-F1, and if you're using this camera for video and need VR, you might as well use a tripod... vr wouldn't completely remove the motion anyway..
I noticed the exposure keeps changing (specially in the fish bowl). I found out I have to lock the exposure (AEL button) prior to shooting, so that the camera stops doing it.
Wow man thanks a ton!! also you're videos are great also!!!! I never thought to use the auto exposure lock!!! This is going to make me much happier... Im taking it out to central park tomorrow so stay tuned!
if you buy it either zoom the lens to have shallower dof or use a wide apreture lens, like f/2.8 (50mm f/1.8 is cheap). it would separate the background even more and also look more cinematic.
Thanks for the great movie sample! Now I know how to prepare a meal with some style lol. I'm seriously considering getting one, I'm just waiting for some good reviews to come out about it. Is there anything you don't like about it? Thanks!
I have absolutely nothing negative to say about this camera. It is by far the best purchase I have made since I can remember. The manual controls are amazing and the point shoot options are nice as well.
i want the food. so delicious. buy the d90 soon!

d90 has only 720p...it's better than nothing. if people want 1080p they should buy a camcorder by canon or sony instead of the d90. lol

It's usually referred to a 'Philadelphia style' and it's very good that way. Chef, though, should learn to sharpen his knives properly.

D90 is jelly, everything is wobbly because its CSMOS chip sucks, Vertical lines become curves eeeeh, But it takes incredible pics!
JohnWelsch 3 years ago
Si, in summary it's crappy and takes great pics? Hippocrit much?
xSushiWarriorx 3 years ago
yeah video quality is horrible because vertical lines become curves, when camera body is moved. Still images, however, are excelent
JohnWelsch 3 years ago
Is there a way to change that you think? is it possible to change the chip?

"Jelly" for jelly-heads that don't know how to shot movies, tell me are movies in Hollywood made with hand-held camera? or crane/stabilizators?

Does VR work in video mode? I was wondering if it helps keep a steady hand while filming.

D90 shoot movie-quality clips. When I'll buy D90, I will forget about regular camcorders.
