NEWSFLASH marriage is not just a Christian phenomenon - it's other religions which recognize marriage. Marriage being sanctioned by the state and not just the religion was done for a reason - legally one spouse has access to the other's assets, et al. It is therefore not just about religion.

This idea of having civil unions for gay people and marriages for straight people is like having a separate sink for blacks and whites. It's segregation, and that's not right. Actually, I have issues with single parent families. It is too easy to go out and have a good time and the kids pay the price. Nobody thinks of them. they are the ones who grow up without the security of a family. Believe me I know. My husband died in November suddenly and left me to raise 4 kids, it isn't easy. But I work and do what I can. this was not by choice, but you can't imagine the challenge of being mom and dad at once. i don't mean to be mean, i have my problems too.
Umm, yes I can imagine the challenge because my mother single handedly raised me and my brother. So if children of a single parent grow up without the security of a family, wouldn't a gay couple be at least able to provide more security than a single parent, let alone an orphan whom they adopt? Gettin married as a gay couple affects a lot of things legally. For instance, If a gay is a government employee, his/her partner gets health care and insurance paid for by taxpayers...( me ).... NEWSFLASH marriage is not just a Christian phenomenon - it's other religions which recognize marriage. Marriage being sanctioned by the state and not just the religion was done for a reason - legally one spouse has access to the other's assets, et al. It is therefore not just about religion.

There's no difference between that and having a gay marriage outside the church, so why should it be called something different? If people were capable of following Jesus' word, yes, there would be no crime. I'm not denying that. Of course, if everyone followed the teachings of Buddha, there would also be no crime. Once again, this is America, and not everyone believes in a Christian God, meaning that we can't make rules according to a specific religion. If there were a law that you had to stop and pray towards Mecca at certain times during the day or suffer punishment, would you be angry?

I have to tell you, the only "religion" not being discussed in schools is christianity, moslem, hindu, greek mythology, buddhism and judaism are frequently mentioned in classrooms. so to say that this is equal time is not truthful. Heck my children are learning more about moslems than the love of Jesus Christ. You are right, that makes me angry.

You're skirting the issue and you obviously don't know much yourself about "moslems." Because we have religious freedom in America, there can be no laws that cater specifically to one religion. Therefore gay marriage bans based solely on religious beliefs are against the very foundations of this country. If you can think of a good reason to ban gay marriage besides religion, I'd like to hear it and destroy it. Your children probably could stand to learn about other cultures btw.

you know, the school system being what it is, the kids learn plenty about other cultures, they teach whats known as multiculturalism. As far as I am concerned, they can sleep with whomever they like, I do not peak into peoples windows in the noght, but lets not try to inflict that lifestyle on the rest of society. Equal rights to all, special rights to none. To say that this is NORMAL behavior is nothing short of ridiculous.

INFLICT that lifestyle on the rest of society? How on Earth does giving gays the right to marry inflict anything on anyone?? And it is not abnormal behavior at all. It is people trying to find love. Just because they are looking in a different place doesn't make it abnormal. NOTHING that homosexuals do in their personal life affects you in the least. Getting married is not special rights, gays are already down a right, equality is bringing them to the level of the rest of society.

I am tolerant of gays. They can do what they like, as I said. However, gay marriage is another step in the direction of advancing liberal agenda. The term normal describes what the mainstraim of society does, this is not mainstream and therefor not normal. I do not support taunting and harrassment of people, but I do support a ban of gay marriage because it is abnormal. You can think what you like, thats my opinion. I understand your intolarance of it, but hey, its a free country.

they have equal treatment.... lease apts together, buy cars, houses, get jobs, the only thing they can't do is get married to each other. because it's unnatural and they can not inflict this on the rest of us and devalue our families. hate to tell you this but the majority of the country agrees with me. it's only through advocate judges they can advance this absurd agenda.

Hate to tell you this, but not being able to marry is not equal treatment. There is nothing unnatural about homosexuality. You also still didn't answer how gay marriage inflicts anything on "the rest of us." How does it devalue your family? Your family must not be very valuable in the first place if it can be "devalued" by certain people getting married. The only absurd agenda is keeping down rights for religious reasons.

Yes, I can. I am a taxpayer. You have man who works for the county in which I live. He gets health care and retirement and insurance for himself, as all gov. employees in unions do, and for his wife. Ok. Now if he's single, he can have a male roomate move in with him. if its a state whwere there is no gay marriage, he can claim this roomate is his "partner" and should be covered just like a wife would. this is actually happening where I live. taxpayers get screwed.

thank you hannity. maxim... the most valuable institution we have is our family. mother, father and children. I have already explained to you how it's unnatural and you have chosen to ignore my point because you don't agree with it. Anyway, when we pervert the family, we devalue it, and we therefor inflict our opinions on other people. incidentally, this is a democracy. doesn't the majority rule? this was true last I checked. Gays are not the majority, we outnumber them, we the majority.

First of all, you didn't say in the least how it was unnatural, you said it was abnormal. Not the same thing. Also, how does allowing gays to marry pervert the family? Straight couples can still get married and have children. Are single parent families a perversion to normal families? Protection of family values is not a logical argument.
Gay marriage is a civil rights issue, and no civil rights issue should be left to a vote. If it were, the Jim Crow laws would still be in effect.

Actually, I have issues with single parent families. It is too easy to go out and have a good time and the kids pay the price. Nobody thinks of them. they are the ones who grow up without the security of a family. Believe me I know. My husband died in November suddenly and left me to raise 4 kids, it isn't easy. But I work and do what I can. this was not by choice, but you can't imagine the challenge of being mom and dad at once. i don't mean to be mean, i have my problems too.

Umm, yes I can imagine the challenge because my mother single handedly raised me and my brother. So if children of a single parent grow up without the security of a family, wouldn't a gay couple be at least able to provide more security than a single parent, let alone an orphan whom they adopt? And if so, wouldn't gay marriages be beneficial to society in that way?

it just kills me to see kids grow up with no real family... my kids lost that part of it, but their dad didn't leave us because he wanted to. it was a horrible ordeal and still is. so i can see your point there.

I just see the best for everybody being the compromise that guarantees the most happiness for all sides. If gays are able to feel the same bond that straight couples do, although in a secular way, while at the same time being given the same legal benefits as the rest of us, what harm does this do to anyone? Do you really think that it will destroy all family values? All I see it doing is allowing gays to settle down and have a more normal and happier life.

Gettin married as a gay couple affects a lot of things legally. For instance, If a gay is a government employee, his/her partner gets health care and insurance paid for by taxpayers...( me ).... I dont want to pay. Its wide open for fraud, in states where they cant marry, A roommate who is not gay could claim partnership and get benefits.

Yes, you will have to pay taxes but not any higher than normal, so it still doesn't affect you. Also, straights are just as able to take advantage of marriage laws for benefits. Anything else?
