I finally learned that credit counselors are the only ones allowed to discuss your credit score. This woman violated the law. She also used my Christmas response and said my debt was more important than my family that I should try to borrow money so I won't have bad credit.
If we, at my call center, are blatantly rude to the callers or discuss how something will affect their credit, then we fail the call.
"That doesn't change the fact that you owe money. I have to report this to the credit bureau." I told her "Mam, I really won't be able to pay the money right now, why don't I just call you back after Christmas." She said "no, this doesn't change the fact that you owe money. I need to have a payment or arrangement made now or it will negatively affect your credit. You could borrow money or forget about Christmas. Would you rather have no money for Christmas or bad credit?"
I work at a call center myself (for USAA) and I receive the calls. At my call center, we're taught to empathize with the caller and show a will to work. I have been called during finals week two weeks before Christmas about a medical bill from a collector. It was at like 8am. She said "I need you to get on a payment plan now." I told her I couldn't that it's Christmas time and I need that money for fuel and presents. She then said "I don't care, that doesn't change the fact that you owe..
He should have opened the door and fucked him up royally. A baseball bat would be effective. Break his fucking arms and he wont soon be back at your door harrassing you.
It's actually illegal for debt collectors to leave actual voice messages or leave message with a third party. You might receive automated messages but that's it.
These collectors are complete idiots. I’ve never heard any collectors say any of that. The bottom line is that the media takes a couple of jackasses and tries to brand the entire industry. It’s a form of career profiling. It’s like saying all cops are bad, or all politicians are bad. It’s just not even close to being true. The problem is our society is so liberal today that everyone things they should get a nice big socialistic hand out.
@collector724 .. u can not be serious? it appears that you take offense because "you might be a collector yourself "and it exposes your career path. we all have had these kinds of calls, so no matter what "you" say this is an unfortunate reality. all this BS over a $200 or so bill? get serious, let those same collectors call your grandparents and do this , then come back on youtube and tell us all ,i"t was ok", for an idiot to call and harrass people.
You know what pisses me off? The bill collectors that insist on calling your home 3 to 4 times a day for someone that dont even live at my number. Its not my bill I got this number when I moved to tis little town. She may had had the number b4 me. I have asked these people MANY times stop callinh me. Call my phone company to see its not her. I sent them a copy of my phone bill registered mail and after 2 years they still call. So its NOT always who they are looking for. I pisses me off!
The saddest part about this, and not that I pity debt collectors, in fact I think most of them are idiots, but even they have been induced by their superiors in several instances to believe that this sort of behavior is proper. The NY Attorney is correct get an answering machine, let them leave you messages. If they leave something as egregious as what some of these dumb asses left, you could sue the fucking pants off the company and the collector personally.
In the USA, it seems so much easier than in the UK. At least legal action against agencies is much more simple, and rogue agencies have much more to fear.
All you need to do in the States is make a police complaint, and if the police won't help, then complain to the person's immediate superior, and keep complaining higher up until they look into your complaint.
Who are you on about here? I'm referring to the police officer's immediate superior - not the agency. I'm surprised I even have to highlight that to you.
@dcamaggots What do you think the police are going to say -- nothing it isnt even a police matter-- you know how many times people have threathen to call the cops on debt collectors -- police will just tell you to piss off and pay your debts
The content of those calls are severe enough to warrant a criminal complaint, especially the 'train' call - and the police should be taking calls such as these very seriously.
Someone vulnerable (a 'genunine victum' as you would say!) could easily go out and do something stupid - either to themselves or someone else - because of such a call.
And I daresay that the lawyer in the clip would know the system there somewhat better than you do.
@dcamaggots "Someone vulnerable (a 'genunine victum' as you would say!) could easily go out and do something stupid - either to themselves or someone else "
--And how is that the debt collectors fault -- we cant control there actions..
Because the debt collector would have precipitated the action caused - thereby making it their fault. Do you have to have everything spoon-fed to you?
"--And how is that the debt collectors fault -- we cant control there actions.."
Are you serious. You have never heard of the power of persuasion? Its very powerful to weak minds. And if they are 'alreaqdy sucidal' - meaning they have had thoughts of suicide, then this tactic could be very dangerous. VERY DANGEROUS.

@dcamaggots lol suck to be in the US -- stupid lawyers.
"and if the police won't help, then complain to the person's immediate superior"
You do realise if you ask to speak to the manager they probably just put you onto the person sitting next to them who then pretends to be the manager

badpanda84 1 year ago
@badpanda84
I don't know what 'alreaqdy sucidal' means, so I assume that you mean 'already suicidal'.
That would make it worse and even more likely to create damage - even someone employed in a scum job like debt collection knows this.
You could just as easily say - what if it's not a case of 'suicidal' but 'psychotic'?
What if the 'debtor' interpreted it so that the collector was trying to drive him/her mad, and decided to go to the company to do something about it?
