Aretha had won that night for "Young, Gifted and Black" Which included the Hit singles "Day Dreaming" (pop#5, R&B#1), "Rock Steady" (pop #9, R&B#2) "Oh Me oh My I'm a fool for you baby" (Pop #73, R&B #9), "Holy Moses" (pop #37, R&B#5) "A Brand new me"(Pop#25, R&B?) All the kings horses (Pop#26, R&B#7). Great album, so was From a Whisper

of 1984 in NYC. I was right there with her to
see and hear it from conception to completion!
When she needed a list of songs to record, we
called SHIRLEY ALSTON REEVES (The original lead singer of THE SHIRELLES)! They talked and sang the songs until ESTHER had
her list
If ESTHER PHILLIPS had lived to see her
recording completed, SHIRLEY would have been on the recording with her!
