  • try going into shops now.... at this era, they gotta bring their wallets

  • i was thinking it was legit until they got to the bit about taking stuff from the shops for free. funny

  • 0:55 be honest, can you tell if it's not from monty python?! XD

  • DUUH belgian guy :D

  • hahahah i wonder if that custom still goes on...the inadvertent stealing from cafes.

  • Why do people feel the need to dislike a video like this, just on principle they have to be dicks!

  • so cool

  • so oldschool

  • Müzik Adriano celentano

  • Que tiempos una historia diferente!..

  • Si es que ahora solo hay mariquitas en el peloton.Estos si que eran tios...camarero una cruzcampo!

  • hahha these riders are so Badaaaaassss... So cool!

  • Imagine crashing with your jersey packed with glass bottles!!!

  • @equinoxranch i think my girlfriend should race your girlfriend, on mine and your bikes :P. race of the century

  • @equinoxranch Hahaha, bigotry!

  • merckx is 10 times better than armstrong..he won almost every major cycling tournament

  • It was cycling sport at his best ... The real cycling sport with real heroes ...

  • What at stuntmen!

  • This is brilliant! Love it :D

  • 1:54 is that wine!!!????

  • É UM ESPECTACULO! COMO OS ANOS PASSAM

  • Holy crap! That bottle opener/stem action is nuts! Gotta love the Giro.

  • 1:00 lol this is shop?? :DDD nice video

  • lol they buy beers

  • the best video about cycling nice nice!

  • the golden age of....this planet.

  • Usual question: what's the name of the music?

  • Is from Adriano Celentano, can't remember the title right now.

  • Sick, yes, you are sick in the head. Go take your diatribes somewhere else. No one here cares, as we're trying to watch some nice cycling. Seriously. You are just posting on here to get a response. Go ride your bike and leave it alone.

  • Eddie is simply the greatest!

  • So breaking off the bottle cap of that drink on his bike stem is the coolest thing I've ever seen done on a bike.

  • Sick3nin, bruce lee was no doper!

  • This is what cycling used to be like?! It's changed a lot.

  • Un palmarès incomparable....

  • listen you uninformed arsehole, merckx was inconsolable even at the accusation of cheating, there was even a time when he was ordered to dope by certain italian organisations and he told them to fuck off, and if they persisted he was going to chuck the sport so shut up you idiot !

  • @houdini69

Sorry, Merckx was found to have doped himself upto the gills in Amphetamines, Ephedrin & Pemolin all his career. The blood tests don't lie. So what do we have? What we have is, if we all honk ourselves upto the gills in Amphetamines, Ephedrin & Pemolin we'd all be great...Period.

  • You can't seriously believe that if we all took performance enhancing drugs that we could even make it onto a pro tour team, let alone be as dominant as Merckx...

  • You can be great at anything you put your mind too & stay dedicated. If you are also willing to take advantage of doping substances over riders on placebo's, you can be even greater, as the workloads on the body are far easier to overcome. I've tested the substances Merckx rode on... I cut 15 minutes off my 50 mile time.

  • merckx is the greatest ever.

everyone who competed with him can tell you the same thing.

    you're just a jealous idiot

  • This clip is CLASSIC!!!! makes me what to build a time machine.....

  • The golden age of pro cycling .I've got this film on dvd and its 2nd only to "Sunday in Hell" as the greatest film on cycle racing. Also they did'nt just take soft drinks on their cafe raids they took beer as well!

  • @patlaws

    champagner as well... great!

  • @patlaws Nice tip! Full video of "Sunday in hell" can be found here watch?v=D4IDCkcnnHg

  • @patlaws they took all kinds of liquid at that time :P they believed being drunk gave them more powers.

  • This is why i love cycling; whenever you ride as a group; no matter how badass you think you are, no matter what; you become conformed to that group... Its a ride; its a group effort. If i was a pro ( and id love to be there for a moment) Id be all about the team. Sure winning a race is great. and lance deserved to win it 7x in a row after fighting cancer.. but the true beauty in the sport is the team element. ( and not just one team) but everyone playing their role.

  • Well said! Non-cyclists are always surprised when I tell them about the team element of the sport. Usually think they think it's as individually-based as skiing or speed-skating.

  • 1:29 champagne?

  • Man, those riders could have made a liquor store

  • haha, can I raid a store on my next bike ride? :P

  • Interesting. So that's how they did it back in the day...

  • indeed...

  • Jesus, Glass bottles, hitting bottle caps on stems and using your teeth! Hardcore!

  • real men!!

  • Now that's what I'm talking about baby!!!!!

  • No Way!

  • Lovin' the guy with a bottle opener around his neck (1:44). Topped only by the guy trying to open a bottle with his stem, then opting to 'bite' it open! Priceless!

  • So cool....drinking Sekt on bicycle ^^

  • That is the coolest thing ever. Art and Cycling!!!

  • LOL 0:54 thought this was a joke.

Looks like its taken right from a Monty Phyton clip, but they actully did it back in those days

  • Melonbomb........., bullshit.

Merckx bikes and those of every other competitor where consistently in the 22 - 24 pound range.

Today's equipment is not faster either. And all this idiotic, ignoramus bullshit of "rust". Only an ignoramus would make such remark. Fucking idiot newbie.

  • Last time I checked steel does rust.

  • his point is that the rusting of steel shouldn't mean it's inferior.

  • and my point is that the guy is an ass-hat. it's such a tired old argument.

  • 1+ (apart from the insult of course).

at the Herne Hill velodomes in London during a track day, the rider who won an events have in fact, a really heavy steel bicycle (Charge Plug), in constract to the light steel, alu, even carbon track bicycle that are ridden by other.

not about the bike, just the rider.

  • depends on the event, of course. is that uber-mensch on the tank gonna beat the 'poseur' on the space-bike in a sprint?

  • I don't know what you're trying to say(I just read this one comment of yours), but are you implying that Merckx would stand no change against the great cyclists of today? I hope that's not what you're saying bc for examply Eddy Merckx world hour record is hard to break even for cyclists today.

And yes todays equipment isn't lighter, but it's better then 30 years ago... Especially for time trials... Do you know what happened in tour de france 1989? Lemond won by 8 seconds because of better

  • equipment in a time trial. It has been proven.

Smallest difference ever as well :P 8 seconds poor fignon... He also has cancer now :(

  • the song is Un'albero di trenta piani

  • What's the name of the song please

  • the name of the song ???

  • Adriano Celentano

  • but what is the song

  • merckx's bikes were 15-20lb, which is the same as today. now alot of the weight is moved away from the moving parts and towards static componants for increased effcentcy. dont get me wrong, i love the beauty and elastic ride of classic steel bikes, but id much rather have my modern bike, which is faster, climbs better, has better brakes, gear changing, and is better in every possible way as well as not rusting.

i would agree that modern tatcics ruin some of the fun. i think rados should go.

  • dont talk bollocks. 12 pound bikes arnt UCI race legal, and theres absolutly no way you can flip over the bars by pedaling too hard uphill. if you were that strong we would all know your name, becuase youd be the fastest/strongers climber ever.

the only way that could happen is if you had a frame much too small for your physique, and then you certainly wouldnt be going fast.

  • you actually wrong, what you dont see out of strong climbers it how fast they can burst speed up hill, it may not be substainable but at speeds of 20-25 up hill and being to far up your handlebars it is possible to flip over; but this conversaiton is mute; you sound like a no it all.

  • especially in a heavy gear going up hill which not many riders use; but some do use.

  • A great video, from "good old times". I can't believe it, they bought drink and food in a little store ... :D

  • Awesome, id rther have 1 of those bikes than one of todays wonder 12 pound bikes.

  • interestingly if you apply to much power to a bike going up hill and your out of the saddle ( referring to a light modern bike ) you can go over the handle bars flipping your bike; happened to me today bending my back tire frame. If i had a merckx bike from back in the day i more then likely would not have been able to flip my bike like that

  • totally agree - too much reliance on technology and team managers etc today

  • Party, Rizzo, and Asterix:

I really hope you guys are joking.

  • HA! all you people with new stems can't open a bottle like I can on my vintage! :P

  • Funny!!!!!

  • This is an Adriano Celentano song

  • fcking sexy boys :P

  • brilliant video haha. the Giro doesn't get enough love

  • i demand to know what this song is!

  • hotness... drinking and biking is the best
