  • Just listen to this....it is unbelieveably wonderful to hear REAL MUSIC in an age of utter garbage.

  • Haaa, love the guy with the mullet rockin the trombone.

  • @kitty12345678900

Long hours of practice can make you play like he does :P

  • The great Louie Bellson on drums for this event, must have been an honor to play with Benny. Louie's playing a little subdued since this is Benny's band and music and not him leading his own big band. Would have loved for him and the band to have played Sing, Sing, Sing.

  • I think as many people do, 60-80's are the best years and never be the same.. also people who lived in these years are the luckiest ones and now, the miserable ones can feed their souls from there.. Thank God, there is Music..!

  • love

  • Please, post some more of him.

  • Thanks for posting it! Benny in his last years was even better!

  • ugh i suck at clarinet..hearing this guy play is like WOW!

  • un alto di circa 50 anni indietro louis bellson alla batteria : intatto eterno!

  • Music that touches your soul and will NEVER lose its absolute brilliance.

  • Damn...... I played the trumpet and clarinet all through junior high, high school and into college. Played in a jazz band for a few years but man I could NEVER play like Benny.....

  • Not to nitpick, but in the interest of accuracy, Benny is 76 in this video.

  • boy that benny can swing!

  • ESTE ES EL GRAN BENNY GOODMAN , YO APRENDI A BAILAR CON ESTA MUSICA.RICARDO ARTURO HERRERA MARTINEZ.

  • Benny Goodman & his Orchestra were still swinging in 1985. Benny was 75!

  • Really love that "big band" sound! What a delight to hear music of this quality. Just grand; I also love all the footage of the orchestra, naturally, but also of all those people dancing and having a great time. Thanks for the post. :)

  • Wonderful

  • I love the way the audience gets up and dances in spite of the chairs!

  • whats with all the old people?

  • @saltyblond95 Because this music--and this bandleader and drummer--date back to the 30s, when these "old people" were young, probably teenagers. I don't know your age, but when you're in your 60s or 70s and go to see some group or artist you currently like in 2010 perform (if they're still around then), then you'll be an "old person" at their concert. And someone who'll be your age all those years from now (who's not born yet) will probably ask "What's with all the old people?"

  • Comment removed

  • @SONOR4 Even though removed, your comment is appreciated. The "old people" in this video are/were part of the generation that took a stand against both Communism and the Nazis. They made America and the world a far better place than it would've been otherwise. Someone's gotta take up for 'em.

  • This gives me shivers up my spine. Absolutely stunning! Thank you for uploading this phenomenal recording.

  • Great stuff! Is that skinny tenor player with the reddish facial hair Ken Peplowski?

  • Mr.Goodman should've worked with Mr.Miller...

    They would've been wonderful together...

  • its a real shame he died a year later

  • @Maserati7200 i know how you feel...

  • el mundo merece su epoca de felicidad careta, los que hacemos la revolución tambien lo disfrutamos...

  • IL grande , Benni Gooudman: il precursore ; dello swing....

  • Amazing. Let's dance!

Thanks for upload it, I love Benny Goodman !!

  • what clarinet is benny goodman using?

  • Doesn't get much better than to have Louie Bellson on drums for this gig. Playing a little subdued because Benny is the leader and this is his music, and not Louie playing with his own big band. Shows that you can swing and not have to be spectacular.

  • He's number one... he give to the Clarinet a beautiful voice!! benny goodmann the best!

  • I love Big Band Music! Benny Goodman. Duke Ellington. Count Bassie. Glenn Miller.

Artie Shaw. Music now is non sense and nothing but a bunch of noise.

  • Benny's original recording of this song went to number one in the first week in April 1938 (in record sales, juke box plays and radio station requests). Great piece for Lindy Hop/Swing like the dancers do on BigBandsAlive

  • thats wonderful))

  • the best.

    o melhor.

    goooooooodman.

  • 昨年末のパーティでは、この曲でジルバを踊りました。ホント最高でした。

I was dacing with this music last dec.

    thanks so much.

  • 青春時代に良く聞きました。

    懐かしいですね。

  • ahhhhh...benny goodman is my hero...and rolll model...every picture you see of him with his clarinet you can see happiness in his eyes....this is only 8 months before he did....and look how happy he is.....I LOVE YOU BENNY GOODMAN !!!! ...i would give anything to get to meet him

  • 8 months before he did? What did he do? Did he stop making jizz? Because that would be sad cause I like his jizz.

  • moshpit at 1:29 :D:D:D

  • Don't get much better than that!!!

  • amazing! i love benny goodman!!!!

  • Benny Goodman is identical to Ennio Morricone in this video!

  • i am in love with benny goodman :)

  • Good musicianship is never out of fashion and these guys swing like mad in what is a 1930s arrangement. BG is as magnificent as ever. Saw him playing classical at Snape Maltings along time ago and that was awesome too.

  • Can anyone tell me what key this is in? Thanks.

  • Comment removed

  • @nrlsky Of course: The signature tune is in E flat major; Then the Don't Be That Way is: D flat major, F major (clarinet solo), A flat major (next chorus with trombone solo) and finally D natural! major (last chorus and ending). Do you have(play in) a band? I can make an arrangement for you, not expensive, sounding just like them. Am a retired professional.

  • This band does not play with the fire of Goodmans early bands...Krupa, Harry James...these guys are tired...yawn.

  • whats the name of the drummer??

  • Louis Bellson

  • hermoso, gracias por compartirlo¡'¡'

  • These recordings are, in my opinion, some of the best BG has ever made. This band is unbelievable - tight, exceptionally accurate, swings like hell - no wonder BG applauds them! What an evening it must have been. Does anybody know where I can get a copy of a DVD of this concert?

  • Sweet,Sweet Candy for my ears.

  • think about the nostalgia going throught he heads of that whole audience... wish i could share that

  • fuck dude im new in this kind of music.. i always listen to metal but this its GREAT i fall in love with this music

  • awesome. yeah I play death and black metal but my heart is in jazz. i really love the swing kings dorsey, goodman, miller, etc., but louis armstrong and bix biederbecke from the 20s/30s will blow your mind. intense shit that no one had ever heard before that time. unlike most music these days.

  • genijalno ali smatram da su snimci iz 30 tih bili nesto drugo

  • You can always tell it's Benny - love him and his music :) Even at 75 in this video he is still "on"....

  • This is the greatest sound!

  • 'The Great Benny Goodman Sound'

  • its unfortunate that he would die not even a year after this performance :\

  • Hey Ulysses61 are you an idiot or what!!! This aint swingin? You think Mr . Goodman didn't pick these guys or at least check them out? Oh another thing don't ever say Mr Bellson don't swing. Dummy!!!!!

  • Anyone who knocks this band, obviously is not a musician. Some great players, Dick Hyman, Bob Haggart and Randy Sandke still one of the best trumpeters today.

  • Happy 100th birthday Benny!

  • Check out the piano players name in the video description. Dick Hyman? Man what an unfortunate name. Oh yea, and Benny is the poop! I just wish I could have seen him preferably at the 1938 Carnagie Hall concert. I would give anything to have been there.

  • Time machines will be invented some time in Earth's existense.

  • For the Benny newbies posting here.. though Benny was still great here, the band was abysmal. If you want to hear PRIME Benny Gooman, check out his mid-30's band with Harry James, Ziggy Elman, Teddy Wilson and Gene Krupa. The musicians here are awful with the exception of Benny himself.

    They don't swing AT ALL.

  • No mate. These guys are good. Trouble is, the one's you mention were something else altogether. Not a fair comparison.

  • Thanks for upload!

  • If I am not mistaken he was either 75 or 76 here, and man can he still swing on that clarinet!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Wow what a band, i think one of the best in BG's long career. Just the rhythm section is a thrill, there must be 1000 years of experience sitting together on this stage. Luckily i had the chance to see BG in a concert in the start of the 80s, even not with such a big band.

  • mr Benny Goodman...God is surely happy now that He has you all for Himself in heaven to hear you play your amazing Clarinet in heaven now!!

  • Swing is the best music in the world!

  • Let's Dance!

  • I would have loved to meet benny goodman. especially when he was younger kuz i thot he was cute am i the only one who thinks he was cute when he was young?

  • on youtube...maybe.

  • amazing to see him playing like that at this age. seem so calm and peacefull..wow

  • wonderfull to hear real music

  • groove

  • This is a song called Let's Dance! Wrong Title!

  • It is actually both. Let's Dance and then Don't Be That Way after the pause in the music. Brilliant stuff!

  • He just played Let's Dance because that's his theme, and every big band opens, or at least should, open with their theme. That's why Benny did.

  • Oh, I'm terribly sorry. I didn't listen to the whole thing.

  • Eddie Bert trombone solo
