Well, that past wasn't dark to people like Quinn and his buddies; they're the type that perpetrated the massacres, slavery, institutional discrimination, the whole nine yards. They probably look back at all that with fondness and wish for the "good old days" to come back again. That's why Obama pisses them off so much, because he's our presidential reminder that our dark past will stay there, in our past.
