  • The passing today of Whitney Houston made me think of this wonderful song. So many more in addition to Whitney have passed since this came out. Still, this is a great tribute to all those who enriched our lives

  • Thank You Marty D.! :>)

  • We gonna shake, wang dang doodle, all night long.

  • i just love the way people dressed. the jackets and ties, the shoes, the dresses. people were slim. they looked good. simply a great era for fashion.

  • Nothing is better than listening to the Righteous Brothers...

  • I see where one of the original authors of "Rock & Roll Heaven" posted here @ YouTube. How cool is that?! Alan O'Day sure wrote two fantastic songs in 1974 - "Angie Baby" (for Helen Reddy) & this stellar tune for The Righteous Brothers. I, too was unaware Alan wrote this tune until recently. I've been aware for years that he wrote "Angie Baby". Alan also wrote another #1 tune he also wrote & sang himself - 1977's "Undercover Angel".

    Bravo, Alan O'Day!

  • Love, love, love this song!

  • Undercover Angel was last performed by the Jake Giles Band ( not positive on the spelling). =^..^*=

  • alan5396 did not know that you alan o'day cowrote this w/them til today. Love this song and it was a favorite back in high school

  • A song that was truly bemeth them even if they did make a few bucks with it. Just plain stupid. Could you even imagine Jimi Hendrix,Bobby Darin & Jim Croce in the same band or even on the same bill?? Get Serious!!

  • Alan O day? who sang Undercover Angel? I still LOVE that song!!!

  • Bobby Hatfield no more needs to be said

  • Alan5396 .... man, I gotta say, this song touches my heart everytime I hear it, mainly because as the years go by, others join the band. It's liek we need another "Rock and Roll Heaven" part 2 just to keep up with those that have gone on since then. You know? Anyways, thanks for blessings us with such a great song. Blessings... James

  • @lpvcrcd Alan O'Day is 'absolutely' the co-writer of this song, along with Undercover Angel (#1 hit) and Angie Baby for Helen Reddy (also #1). Look it up. He still performs all three in concert.

  • On June 18, 2011 the biggest baddest sax player joined his brethren. what a band! R.I.P Clarence "Big Man" Clemons.

  • Bobby Hatfield, Righteous Brother is now in the Rock n roll Heaven that he sang 'bout. The bros hit #3 in Billboard, 7-20-74. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! RIP, Bobby.

  • I thought Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil wrote this song. Regardless, it's one of my 15 A+ songs of all time. At a company talent show, I impersonated 11 artists, including the Righteous Brothers from this tune as the finale. I started, by the way, with Elvis and then the Statlers on "Do You Remember These?"

  • The 70s were great musically speaking and the sad part of all is, i was standing before greatness and i did not apreciated, i do now very much so.....

  • I wonder if Joe Walsh does the guitar at the beginning of the song. Sure sounds like him.

  • I would love to have the lyrics to this beautiful song, anyone please....

  • @HLITA2010

Not exactly "Louie Louie.." LoL.. =) (meaning that the lyrics are beautifully clear..) Just google 'Lyrics Rock And Roll Heaven.' Sorry, can't post all the lyrics on here.. (I imagine the lyrics are 'clearer' if you are familiar with all the references.. i.e. you live in your stereo.. lol) =)

  • Oh i love this song by the Righteous Brothers and i was looking for it for yrs, it brings so many memories, thanks so much.......................they are awesome.....

  • anyone can criticize this song if they like but this is one of the most memorable HITS of the 70's,,,,i was there for it and i still love it.

  • So this band is joined by the latest R&Roller to pass... he gets there and sees all this talent.... he proclaims "I can't believe it... I am heaven!" Lennon looks at him and sarcastically says "Don't be so quick to think, mate" ... Just then Karen Carpenter comes out and sits at the drums and says" Okay, breaks over... from the top AGAIN! .... "Close to You!" One, two, three and..." ... LOL

  • Actuallt jim wanted to be remeber as poet not rock star like this song claims.I still though love this song.

  • I passionately hate this song. Everything about it is horrible. The sound of it and the vocals and the horrible backup singers. And the lyrics are so bad.

  • i just love these images. the way people looked and dresses. the jackets and ties, the dresses, the navy uniforms. i just can't get over how iconic this all is.

  • This was co-written by Alan O'Day who also wrote "Angie Baby" recorded by Helen Reddy, and "Undercover Angel" recorded by Alan O'Day, a number 1 hit in '77.

  • tha rightousbrothas gave us white soul

  • It just does not get any better than this. Amazing, stunning song. Classic !!

  • i have a 45 of this song. the writing credits are to a J. Stevenson and A. O'Day.

  • Hey, I'm the co-writer of this song. I loved these artists, & I like the nostalgic pics on this video. Wanted you to know that there is also a new updated version of the song (with video) at youtube.com/watch?v=k2cijNKu9qc (Tek Trekgamer). You can also hear it on my website, alanoday.com. Thanks everyone, AO

  • @alan5396 I'm an Art Director and just wanted to thank you for giving the world your poetry. You really nailed the lyrics on this one Alan...

  • @alan5396 You tell us thanks, but I wanna thank you. This song means alot to alot of people. I've heard Tek's version, but the Righteous Bros are definitely better. This is one of those songs, no matter what else you're doing, you have to stop and listen and remember. That stupid word, bittersweet.

  • @DenCath5209

For me to thank you again would be a little redundant. But I remember, & appreciate your POV.

    :)

  • @alan5396 Glad to hear you are the co writer.... I wrote the Gettysburg Address for Lincoln --- He used my second version

  • @alan5396 Alan, are there any videos of you performing this, 'Angie Baby,' or 'Undercover Angel'? If there are, I would like to view them! Thanks for your musical contribution to my life's Soundtrack!

  • @alan5396 Hey, thanks so much for saying it all in one great composition. It's hard to re-capture great days but you've one it! Saw the Brothers in Atlantic City just before Bobby's death. This is one of my favorite memories. Thanks again.

  • @alan5396 hEAVEN FOUND THAT ANGEL YET?

  • @Booberry82

If I understand your question right, YES! I'm a lucky guy.

    Thanks, AO

  • @alan5396 You need to write a new one. A lot of artists have left since this tune came out almost 40 years ago.

  • @harpo103 Wait a minute! I remember you! You had that tune Undercover Angel that went to #1 in 1977. I was in high school at the time. You also wrote Angie Baby, which was a strange tune about a kooky girl. I think every teen boy back then knew a girl like that. Usually the hot girls were the nutty ones!!!

  • @harpo103

I did. You can hear it through my website, alanoday.com.

    Happy Holidays!

  • @alan5396 if i may ask, sir. who wrote that guitar riff that satrts the song?

  • @alan5396 Thank YOU for a wonderful song that brings back the memories of those wonderful artists we had lost and what they had given us.

  • @patricia51fem

I appreciate your message. Glad I was part of that era!

    Alan

  • Great song ...and Janis really did take "A piece of my heart"...

  • cool video

  • We can add the RB's own Bobby Hatfield to the list. Billboard's #58 song of '74. Hit #3 pop, #38 AC. Written by Alan O'Day. God bless!

  • @DaveWollenberg make that co-written by him. two people are credited on the 45 i have.

  • John Lennon, Rick Nelson, Ronnie Van Zant, Elvis Presley, Randy Rhoades, Tom Fogerty....

  • Marvin Gaye and Michael Hutchence will be there too.

  • I like how this was done!

  • @IMNotoriousT upstate New York

  • McD's burgers were 15 cents in the 50s and they're still under a buck less tax. not bad!

  • @jasonwheel only in your country

  • "Sing a song to Light My Fire

You know Jim would want it that way..." Dan O'Niallain, Grafton, Ma.

  • Now Bobby is there to. RIP

  • Dan Fogelberg and Paul Davis left us way too soon. This song is a fitting destiny for their talent and greatness. When the time comes, they and all of the others will welcome the Righteous Brothers !

  • Thank you so much for this!

  • this was co-written by dj Alan O'Day who did "Undercover Angel" in 1976 or '77.

  • RIP Ron Lundy; "hello love"

  • What memories!

  • a beautiful song it was and awsome song back in the day

  • RIP Ronnie James Dio

  • rip ron lundy

  • I just love this song. It reminds me of the summer of 74, when I was a carefree, lean young man, working at 6 flags over Georgia and sharing an apartment with 3 other wild and crazies in Austell. Life was good.

  • Johnny Maestro ("16 Candles" ~ "The Worst That Could Happen") made his journey to Rock and Roll Heaven on March 24, 2010. The Righteous Brothers were favorites of Johnny's. He said that Bobby Hatfield's voice was phenomenal. Johnny always sang "Unchained Melody" in his concerts as a tribute to Bobby Hatfield.

  • Hit #3 in Billboard. RIP. Bobby. God bless!

  • are those shots of memphis and the Dance party that was on channel 5?

  • considering the events referenced in the song, the clip show is a little outdated. But it's awesome song nontheless

  • If you go to the website of Alan O'Day who actually wrote this song Rock and Roll heaven you can hear an awesome updated version of this song.

  • @belladeballe

Not to show my age, but would the Alan O'Day you mentioned the same one who sang 'Undercover Angel' back in the 1970s?

  • @maytloo One and the same

  • @MrGoodtrips64 You're right, but the clips are awesome....they really look like 40's-50's.

  • Orpheum Theater, Wichita, Kansas

  • awesome video and song its like a trip dowm memory lane

  • The Righteous Brothers I think were close to the BEST ever. RIP Bobby, miss you... You are there in RNR Heaven, I bet you have them rocking away!!! You gave me the Time of My Life!!!

  • They get another performer today...rest in peace MJ...I <3'd your music and magic....

  • I always loves the Righteous brothers. I was blessed to meet Bill Medley twice. 1973 in Vegas and 2008 in Branson. Thanks for sharing!
