  • In the NY days of Pyramid WITH and ON are not buzzed

  • "A hoop on the street" and "stuffings in little bottles of pills" should both have gotten the buzzer.

  • 2 illegal clues! "A hoop on the street" and "Stuffings in certain bottles of pills".

  • From the week of 8/9/76 - 8/13/76.

  • Nice catch, man! :-)

  • I know her, ha haaaaaa

  • It was so much fun!

  • (Gasp!) Are you the lady who won the $15,000? :-O

  • The illegal clue was the lengthy description "stuffings in certain bottles of pills" by Tony on the top category. That wouldn't fly on even a $50 category on the $25,000 Pyramid! As for the $20,000 (ABC) version, think of the Winner's Circle prize as a jackpot - you play for more money each time (assuming you win front game by points and qualify), until you win it, then retire. ABC imposed a payout cap on all their gameshows of $20,000 maximum, otherwise Pyramid might have hiked to $50k or more.

  • How cool was Tony Randall? Compliments the male contestant by referring to his game play as "sensational" and then applauds the pyramid winner. Genuine class.

  • He was wonderful and smart............I'm the Claudia on the show

  • Did you get the house?

  • Yes

  • Just want to give you my congratulations, even though you won the money 33 years ago. This was my favorite show when I was growing up(I was almost 6 years old when this episode aired), and you are an excellent game player. Again my congratulations!

  • The $20,000 Pyramid brought the show to its peak. After the $10,000 format, inflation kicked in making it one of the first game shows to adjust its money values to account for inflation. The celebraty crowd began to grow over the years; there were regulars and special guest who rarely appear on game shows come about. The format didn't change except bonuses and having to win the winners circle twice for $20,000 were A okay. I give this era of the Pyramid a 5 star rating.

  • Great win. I remember this show when I was 7 or 8 years ol on WAKR Channel 23 in Akron Canton and it was on at noon everyday. Wish this version of the pyramid was on DVD somehow. Maybe someday.

  • I'm slightly confused on the rules of all the Pyramid rules. In the Winner's Circle, the first time you win $10,000, and the second you win $15,000, and the third you win $20,000. Is the money accumulated so that you can win $45,000 total, or is it an additional $5000, every time you win after the first win?

  • No, no...Important choice of words to follow here...If you win on your FIRST ATTEMPT, you win $10,000 and retire undefeated. If you win on your second attempt, you win $15,000 and retire undefeated. Starting with your third attempt, it's $20,000 and you keep going until you win it or you're defeated.

  • oh, ok. That seems really unfair, though. What would be a good idea is to reverse it. if you win on the first attempt, you win the full $20,000, and so on. But anyway, thanks!

  • I would have done, you first play for $10,000 and will until you win it, then play for $15,000 until you win it, then $20,000 untill you in it.

  • I agree canbac. It should be 20K on the first attempt and go down on each unsuccessful attempt.

  • "We've discussed it, and we're going to have A BLESSED EVENT."

    Pure gold.

  • LOL at Joanne Worley (7:36). She sounds like Stuart's mom on Mad TV! XD

  • The big Pyramid sure looked pretty in gold. I love how it caught the light. :)

  • Ready, GO!

    Stand by!

    GO!

  • In the "New" category, he used some illegal clues like saying "news" for newspaper and "new year's what" after Joann said "new year's". Should those have been buzzed?

  • Well, the "newspaper" clue is just the judge being asleep at the cuckoo. In the second case, it was fairly clear that "New Year's" was part of the answer and JoAnne had already given it, so the judge gave him a pass because they had already established that it was part of the answer.

  • Same with "News" and "Newspaper" - Joanne said "News" so the contestant could use that in his description to try to get the rest of the word.

  • dick modified the rules to allow the word "new" be used in a description just for that category.

  • @zeldafanii for newspaper, he said "the daily..." and Joanne replied "news." He then said "news - what?" That would have been acceptable during any time of Pyramids run.

  • Too Bad GSN cannot do a Pyramid 35th Birthday Bash where they would show all versions of the Pyramid, especially the 70's versions($10,000 and $20,000 Pyramid).

  • I second that. If they would, Sony Pictures Television would do it.

  • Jeez, why was Tony Randall so stiff? You guys won! Give her a hug, man! XD

  • What was the illegal clue?

  • Prepositional phrase. "Pill bottle stuffings" would have been the more acceptable way to phrase that clue.

  • They didn't clamp down on that until the 80s with The New $25,000 Pyramid.

  • Also "hoops on the street" for "things you roll".

  • "Street hoops" :)

  • @AdamNedeff

or stuffings in bottoms of bills.

  • "Oh it's a 7?!" LMAO

  • Happy birthday to one of the greatest TV game shows EVER. Viva la Pyramid!! :)

  • I was 6 years old when this show was VTR!

  • Comment removed

  • They didn't miss it. It was legal back then.

  • When has a prepositional phrase ever been legal on Pyramid?

  • Before the debut of "The New $25,000 Pyramid" in 1982.

Don't ask me why they made that change, 'cause I don't know.

  • Sensational front game play here Adam. Nice way to say Happy Birthday Pyramid.
