i easily get 5 fruits and veg a day i'm always eating fruits and i also eat a homemade salad as well. when i eat healthier i feel better, thats one good reason to eat healthy. i also try to get out for an hour walk a few times a week when the weather is nice. just by eliminating sugar and grains i have already lost 6 lbs. : ) i eat carbs but the good ones from fruits and veg not the ones from bread.
To what end? To live longer so the government can put us in care when we are 85 years old and then steal our houses and legacy. I say, eat everything you want to and die when it comes but do not live that lonmg that you need care.

1 portion of fruit is basically a piece of fruit. like: apple,banana,orange,handful of grapes,about 5 strawberries,2plumbs. 2 satsumas Portion of veg is like: handful of sprouts,a large carrot,qtr of a large cucumber that's what portions are and when they say 5 portions of fruit and veg i think it means 5 of them together so 2 fruit + 3 veg 2 veg + 3 fruit etc
as well as potatoes not counting as one portion, the same applies to both parsnips and sweetcorn, this is because they contain too much starch and so are not counted in our guidelines, even though they are all vegetables.
Before the Government & NHS try to wrap us all in cotton wool and force us all to be skinny non smokers, perhaps they should take a look at their own weight problems and nicotine habbits.
I visit hospitals frequently and quite often in the no smoking areas you will find overweight staff puffing their cancer sticks.
Have you seen how many overweight staff work in our hospitals.
This is so such an unfair comment. It is government guidelines, not the lifestyle of the nurses and doctors that is being analysed. Nurses and Doctors are humans too and have all the failings of everyone else.

I actually believe that 80% of your calories should come from fruit and vegetables, in other words there is no way you can eat too much, if you don't like fruit try to vary the color of your vegetables. Also, maybe add a dip or dressing to the fruit like agave nectar to help you get them down. :)
after watching video for 2nd time, still do not know what is 1 portion.. Is it each plate in your video is consider 1 portion? I saw 5 fruits in 1 plate eg - banana, apples, pear, orange & grapes - is it consider 1 portion? Are we suppose to eat all the food you have displayed on your table per day. Because I saw 5 white bowl & plates of food = 5 portions ?

Intresting the baked beans suprised me i didn't know they were including as one one of your 5 a day.Currently i'm probably eating about 2-3 pieces of fruit and veg a day which is ok but when you think about it dosn't take that much just to grab a banana when your hungry i guess we'll have to get some dried fruit in soon we have not had that in a long time...
Whole foods is the way to go for staying healthy. A good goal would be 50% whole foods at each meal.

The usual recommendation is 2 portions of fruit and 3 of vegetables each day, based on the idea that fruit contains more sugar.
