  • If you like Brownie you may like Hans Olsen too He was a big influence on Hans.

  • Many many years ago I used to sing folk songs and wishy washy pop songs. I played harmonica usually folk or pop. I started playing harmonica at 7years of age simple pop music etc, then I discovered a singer and harp player, Sonny Terry and Brownie Mc Gee, I also discovered Sonny Boy Williamson 2nd. From then on I was hooked on The Blues and no matter who else I have heard since I still get my inspiration from these guys, what a quirk of fate Sonny and Brownie getting together, had they not ther

  • A big inspiration for the late great Bert Jansch.

  • Perfect

  • I love this guy -- thanks for uploading!

  • finally some real blues, not that blues brothers shit. it sucks how people these days think that rock n roll is the same thing as blues just cause of that goddamn movie

  • Thanks Lee. This is my favourite song! Last time I heard this was in 1974 at Sunderland Arts Centre with Neil Dalton on guitar and Bill Newton on the harp. Great stuff!! June Page x

  • Amen, brother. Amen.

  • heÿ_Í_fëèl_sØ_lÕñÈlý_tóÐãý

  • Oh yes he was!

  • epitome of the blues right here !

  • Powerful enough to turn goat piss into gasoline.

    D~

  • Finally! A Diagnosis!

    Wooohoooo!

  • @natsway Seems my original comment (re: WIllie Dixon) was aimed at a different video but got sent to this, I hadn't noticed YT new "queue" had shifted the window to this video, which I only just saw, Willie Dixon visible near the end of the tape. Still, what I said about Brownie is so. Mike Wilhelm, who sings/plays guitar on this referred vid: "triple dub dot" + youtube.com/watch?v=6S1gGyB1_8A studied w/ Brownie for years. I'm playing harp. (4 AM Hyde St Studios SF 1985 budget for only 1-take)

  • i was born with the bluees

  • i don't see or hear Willie Dixon on this and it would be MOST unusual if he had been. Brownie played his own bass lines and melody same time. I used to sit in on drums at times with them. Learned some harp from Sonny (more from Howlin' Wolf) and I'll post a video story sometime about the Easter Bar B Que at Brownie's place in Oakland that is really funny.

  • @howlingsandy - Thanks so much for posting, love it!! As far as your comment on Brownie playin both "bass & melody", it's a GREAT talent to perform it like it's second nature, & something I envy!

It's a terrific song and one, I'll work on learning!! There's so much great stuff out there to be had, thanks again for making my life a bit richer by making it available to watch!! :)

  • Blues emo music for st8 men, i love the blues.

  • The great Willie Dixon is on the bass.

I tell ya, the blues don't get much better than this song.

Just amazing--sweet and sad like it ought to be.

  • ...it jes don't get no better...

  • Indeed sir.....

  • Great pick, Nancy. His work with Sonny Terry is remarkable too. So sad these men get lost over the years. I discovered him while in the University many years ago and admired his guitar style so much I HAD to buy a Martin D-18 also.

  • When I listen to this tune my head rolls from side to side opposite my shoulders.....this tune is the berries (ripe and red) in summer!

  • love it

  • That was amazing.

  • lol Elite ..

  • Blues from the soul

  • Pure.

  • padreeee !!!

  • Lyrically, one of best blues songs.

  • The blues is not a competition. Great song and great performance.

  • Oh am I too Socratic?

  • Possibly vociferious? .. =)

  • I love his voice.

  • what a master of music!!

  • Das ist Blues !

    Vom Feinsten...

  • love this tune. Thanks for posting!

  • God bless 'em...

  • beautiful stuff man... thnx for the post

  • It's nice to change it up with an 8-banger everyonce in a while. Sub some chords and add a bridge and you got a pop hit! lol

  • Yes, and changing the song by "subbing" some chords, would have ruined it.

  • fuck pop hits. this is music not public opinion.

  • Sorry, I meant no harm in saying that it's nice to change it up with 8 bars every once in a while. I really do love 12 though. A lot. I thought most blues people were nicer. Maybe you are playing the wrong stuff? What do you think about this song? You're comment is really confussing because it contradicts itself. Also, this song has a bridge! Who is this, Buddy Guy? lol Just kidding, I know of quite a few blues songs that have bridges. Sorry to everyone else giving me thumbs down. No harm meant.

  • I agree completely. Switch it up and spice it, when you play it sign it with your moves. Some people are fairly close minded...ahem. I understand the "purist" mindset however it doesn't always have to be that way. Everything being reinterpreted, added to and varied is the nature of the blues and how it evolved from root beats and chants. If you didn't have that the blues would get stagnant and die, thankfully though there are great artists out there keeping it new and fresh.

  • thats my fav blues, i love it

  • How good is this?

    Damn good!!!

    This is the real deal!

  • it makes my heart feel blue... love this song so much!! this is really fucking blues!

  • yes it's willie dixon... you can hear the emotion is his voice, genuine art. the blues : from the oyster comes the pearl...

  • is that willie dixon playing the celo? Is it a celo? Chelo? the big base guitar thing.

  • i thinks its a double bass, cellos are the smaller, gayer ones. dont know if its willie dixon though

  • lol small gayer ones?

  • yeah, it makes me feel better about the fact that the instruments i play are so common, but cello and all that crowd take skill

  • Has anybody Brownie McGhee tab?

Please send a message or link, if anybody has.

  • ill tab any song perfecgtly for you for 20 dollars a song

  • most amazing shit i've ever heard, these two guys were the first naggers to break the barrier between blacks and whites. professional shite!

  • It is so nice to see rightly played acoustic blues guitar...not the squeaky-polite and stiff stuff you used to hear on commercials. Goodness, I hated hearing it.

  • god hes so good

  • it was some good meaningful music back then. every song had a story rather it be misery, love, or just having a good ole time. i can't get enough.

  • Those huge fingers just never stop moving. If you watched him live, there were all kinds of jazz chords and little fill notes. Browny was genius, though Sonny was flashier.

    WE

  • this fu*ken kicks ass

  • this is the shit

  • yaeh great willie dixon is in there... amazing blues

  • is willie dixon there?

  • Yep

  • it´s amazing! this real blues feeling.

  • Any legendary song with some bass lines from Willie Dixon is it?

  • this is 1 of the best blues songs ever!!!

  • THIS IS COUNTRY BLUES!
