I used to play some boogie woogie and the one thing which is painful is keeping that bassline going with your left hand. Obviously you get used to it, but trying to play again it's really hard to keep a steady beat!
Much respect due. You're a great musician obviously, wild and fast with right hand walking up and down like a Delta juke drinking glass and smooth melodic with the left. Just Great!
Heavens to Murgatroid! Kudos, Matthew! This was fantastically amazing! If I'd been at Border's that day I may have started jitterbugging on top of your piano! This is boogie at it's BEST! If you any more cool, Matthew, you'd be BAKED ALASKA! Strictly from wowsville, daddy-o! THANKS for sharing your talent with us...you've MADE my day & my week! :)
Now I am back again - listening. And enjoying as usual greatly! Matthew, did you ever consider doing (=publishing) your version of Swanee River Boogie? I think you would JUST EXCEL!
Well you certainly do a great rendition of Pinteop's Boogie so I can see why you like it so much. I'm looking forward to hearing your latest version of Pintetop when it's ready. By the way, I love the way you play Roll 'Em Pete - my personal favorite of the boogies you play.
Thanks for the quick response Matt. Well you certainly do a great rendition of Pintetop's Boogie so I can see why you like it so much. I'm looking forward to hearing your new version of it!
Thanks for the quick response Matt. Well you certainly do a great rendition of Pintetop's Boogie so I can see why you like it so much. I'm looking forward to hearing your new version of it!
Hey Matt, I've listed to all of you clips on You Tube. You have great technique and a great feel for Boogie Woogie (nice swing groove, etc.). Two question: 1. Have you played Pete Johnson's Dive Bomber and what do you think of it? 2. What is you personal favorite Boogie to play? Thanks and keep playing...you are an inspriation for a music that will live forvever.
Thank you Pianoworks - there are alot of things that I start to play but then don't quite finish and Pete Johnson's Dive Bomber is one of them - it's great though! - Pinetops is my favorite to play - I have a new version of it actually that I should have up here in the next couple weeks - thanks for watching!
Matt - you are great. U have nice flourishes introduced into the piece. I agree with @joacos about taking liberties tempo changes and variations to create your own signiture piece. You've got the tickets. Rock on.
This certainly is a very nice version of Pinetop's Boogie. Given your excellence - feel free to stray away from the "standard" rythm in the song - you can make it very personal indeed. Playing great man! J
Matt I am confused. I have listed to every version of this song I can find. I would love to hear you play the one by Clarence Smith. There is Pinetop Perkins, Pinetop Smith , luckyluca99 on you-tube plays the one I like best, it has the 8 bar base twice in the song. With your vivid intrest in boogie, please tell me what is what. THANKS IN ADVANCE
The orignal piece was by Clarence "pinetop" Smith - but then Albert Ammons took it and made it into "boogie woogie stomp" - mine is a mixture of these two, although more albert ammons than the other, plus I have put my own spin on things - I know Pinetop perkins version but I don't like it as much - luckyluca is a fantastic young player who I enjoy watching too.
This is FANTASTIC you are GREAT I could listen to this stuff for hours. Matt is this Pinetop perkins version with your changes ? And are you familiar with Pine top Smiths version ?
WOW! I just listened to your Hot Boogie Woogie clip 10 times in a row before I tried this one. You have the most incredible left hand rythmn I have ever seen and I am 65 years young. You are a treasure trove of Boogie Woogie creativity and musicianship. Thanks for sharing...!!!
This piece for me has evolved through at least 3 different arrangements from parts I liked of other peoples arrangements/playing - If I like a piece alot I usually will change it over time or add to it - mostly though it is from Albert Ammons Boogie Woogie Stomp - I learned it by ear from the recording
Boogie Stomp was Albert Ammons arrangement of Clarence Pinetop Smiths Pinetops boogie - my version is a take from both these - but mine are the same - thanks for watching!
Guys listen - Albert Ammons Boogie Woogie Stomp IS Pinetops Boogie - just Ammons arr. - Ammons only changed the name for legal reasons - Thanks for watching!
Excellent work - and i agree with that comment down there, how can anyone rate this else than 5 stars!
That's the music where the listener can really feel the joy of making music - plus it's not quite easy to do (just comparing with the crap that's today's popular music).
If you ever gonna head over on to Germany, Thuringia be sure to tell me, i'd like to spend some money to see you playing! Well, anyways, keep up the good work! Of course i subscribed to your channel, btw;).
I've play my whole life but not like that. I haven't heard pinetops since my grandmother use to play it when I was a kid. You are fantastic! Keep playing its inspiring....and nothing that exciting ever happens at our Borders!
I think it is a Kawaii - it's not the easiest to play though - I play annually @ this borders and it's always a bear of piano to play - I'm always tired after - thanks for watching! - Matt
YOU DA MAN MATTHEW...I'm on my way to Itunes....Thanks for the greatest version of Pinetop's Boogie. You make him proud! You "Border" on being a piano genius.
This is indeed one of the best versions of Pinetop's Boogie Woogie. It's also nice to see how it graduallytransforms to, or rather incorporate elements of, the Albert Ammons version - Boogie Woogie Stomp.
OMG> I am a huge Booker fan and I just heard someone who maybe out does him? This is definately the best version of this boogie I've ever heard! Thanks, you made my day!

Well what do ya know! Here is a great boogie-woogie player! I love the groove of it! It sits down solidly in its tempo and doesn't budge. It just cooks up like some great boogie stew. Bravo. Bravissimo. (I love it.)
