  • I used to play some boogie woogie and the one thing which is painful is keeping that bassline going with your left hand. Obviously you get used to it, but trying to play again it's really hard to keep a steady beat!

  • Dude...you're amazing!

  • Mr. Perkins would be proud. May he RIP!

  • Awesome, Bravo :) :) :) Keep up the great Playing, Chellie

  • Y'know, it's the strangest thing...whenever I play one of your vids, my body parts start twitching and jerking uncontrollably - :)

  • Much respect due. You're a great musician obviously, wild and fast with right hand walking up and down like a Delta juke drinking glass and smooth melodic with the left. Just Great!

  • I love it

  • Simply the best!

  • Heavens to Murgatroid! Kudos, Matthew! This was fantastically amazing! If I'd been at Border's that day I may have started jitterbugging on top of your piano! This is boogie at it's BEST! If you any more cool, Matthew, you'd be BAKED ALASKA! Strictly from wowsville, daddy-o! THANKS for sharing your talent with us...you've MADE my day & my week! :)

  • Go kid!

  • O_O....O_O.......O_O.................O_O

    WOW!

  • Power! Love that running base!

  • You play rich and full and sappily, I just love your going.

  • Now I am back again - listening. And enjoying as usual greatly! Matthew, did you ever consider doing (=publishing) your version of Swanee River Boogie? I think you would JUST EXCEL!

  • I keep returning to this post, wow what a feeling. Cheers man J

  • Thank you Joacos!

  • @joacos Me tooooo.Damn, great 'piana' Mr Ball is playing!!!

  • Is this the original in C or the Smiths Pinetop's BW in F?

  • Well you certainly do a great rendition of Pinteop's Boogie so I can see why you like it so much. I'm looking forward to hearing your latest version of Pintetop when it's ready. By the way, I love the way you play Roll 'Em Pete - my personal favorite of the boogies you play.

  • Thanks for the quick response Matt. Well you certainly do a great rendition of Pintetop's Boogie so I can see why you like it so much. I'm looking forward to hearing your new version of it!

  • Thanks for the quick response Matt. Well you certainly do a great rendition of Pintetop's Boogie so I can see why you like it so much. I'm looking forward to hearing your new version of it!

  • Hey Matt, I've listed to all of you clips on You Tube. You have great technique and a great feel for Boogie Woogie (nice swing groove, etc.). Two question: 1. Have you played Pete Johnson's Dive Bomber and what do you think of it? 2. What is you personal favorite Boogie to play? Thanks and keep playing...you are an inspriation for a music that will live forvever.

  • Thank you Pianoworks - there are alot of things that I start to play but then don't quite finish and Pete Johnson's Dive Bomber is one of them - it's great though! - Pinetops is my favorite to play - I have a new version of it actually that I should have up here in the next couple weeks - thanks for watching!

  • thats the way it should be! You are fantastic in all yours videos... One Word EPIC mate just keep that way !!!

  • THIS is Albert AMMONS ' solo version from 1939 and nothing less than Boogie STOMP from 1936 with a BAND

  • Very good bit much at the start an' it just never seems to sound like the original.

  • Nice skills ! I like it :D:D:D

  • Matt - you are great. U have nice flourishes introduced into the piece. I agree with @joacos about taking liberties tempo changes and variations to create your own signiture piece. You've got the tickets. Rock on.

  • My kind of music great

  • FANTASTIC!!!!! REALLY GREAT

  • I Love it!!!!!!!!!!! :) :)

  • This is boogie woogie stomp. Still alright though.

  • Noop, it's the Pinetop's boogie - but still excellent. Cheers

  • Wow! You've got some serious chops! Enjoyed it, keep rockin' it!

  • This certainly is a very nice version of Pinetop's Boogie. Given your excellence - feel free to stray away from the "standard" rythm in the song - you can make it very personal indeed. Playing great man! J

  • yes, it does sounds more line Ammons' stomp indeed, nice anyways!

  • Matt I am confused. I have listed to every version of this song I can find. I would love to hear you play the one by Clarence Smith. There is Pinetop Perkins, Pinetop Smith , luckyluca99 on you-tube plays the one I like best, it has the 8 bar base twice in the song. With your vivid intrest in boogie, please tell me what is what. THANKS IN ADVANCE

  • The orignal piece was by Clarence "pinetop" Smith - but then Albert Ammons took it and made it into "boogie woogie stomp" - mine is a mixture of these two, although more albert ammons than the other, plus I have put my own spin on things - I know Pinetop perkins version but I don't like it as much - luckyluca is a fantastic young player who I enjoy watching too.

  • @Boogiewoogiekid : yeah, that left hand sounds more 'pinetoppish'

  • This is FANTASTIC you are GREAT I could listen to this stuff for hours. Matt is this Pinetop perkins version with your changes ? And are you familiar with Pine top Smiths version ?

  • Man i LOVE the classics!!!! the only classic i can play is the entertainer but hopefully one day i can play this song. keep up the good work!

  • Thanks Kruglar! - Matt

  • Matt! This is just the most incredible compilation of boogie woogies put so well together it makes me smile every time I listen to it.

  • Sounds like "Boogie-Woogie-Stomp".

    But Great!

  • It IS "Boogie-Woogie-Stomp" at the end.

  • Tear it up!!!

    sweet

  • Great Playing Matt!

  • Thanks misterd!

  • Looks like we won't have to worry about boogie piano going out of style any time soon....excellent work!

  • Thanks Johnny!

  • WOW! I just listened to your Hot Boogie Woogie clip 10 times in a row before I tried this one. You have the most incredible left hand rythmn I have ever seen and I am 65 years young. You are a treasure trove of Boogie Woogie creativity and musicianship. Thanks for sharing...!!!

  • thank you! - I was taught it all by a guy from your generation :) - thanks for watching- Matt

  • Flawless !!! Been listening 50 years you have very good great left hand..Where do you perform ?

  • I have listened to to every Boogie Woogie I can find, and you are the King, no doubt!

  • Thank you Nefjol! - and thanks for watching!

  • Where did you learned this??

  • This piece for me has evolved through at least 3 different arrangements from parts I liked of other peoples arrangements/playing - If I like a piece alot I usually will change it over time or add to it - mostly though it is from Albert Ammons Boogie Woogie Stomp - I learned it by ear from the recording

  • This is SO awesome. Can this guy tickle the ivories, or what??? Whoo hoo!!!

  • this guy should tour

  • thanks for answering, you are great ;-)

  • what´s the differenz between Boogie stomp and pinetops boogie?

  • Boogie Stomp was Albert Ammons arrangement of Clarence Pinetop Smiths Pinetops boogie - my version is a take from both these - but mine are the same - thanks for watching!

  • AWESOME!!!

  • shit, you are pro!!

  • the best thing I have ever heard.

  • Thank YOu!

  • For me it sounds like "Boogie Wogie Stomp" and not like "Pinetops Boogie"!

But Good Tune - 5 Stars from me!

  • Guys listen - Albert Ammons Boogie Woogie Stomp IS Pinetops Boogie - just Ammons arr. - Ammons only changed the name for legal reasons - Thanks for watching!

  • Compare this to Albert Ammons' "Boogie Woogie Stomp" from 1936. That is what you are actually playing. Not Pinetops Smith... Great Job though....

  • I have posted the same 1 minute ago! :-)

  • Thx for the great Boogie Woogie Fix!

  • Good Job ... Natural Talent For Live Performance mate ...

  • Thank you! - Matt

  • Really excellent! How long have you being playing?

  • Thank you! Since 4 years old - but I've only been playing boogie-woogie style since Oct 2001

  • Excellent work - and i agree with that comment down there, how can anyone rate this else than 5 stars!

That's the music where the listener can really feel the joy of making music - plus it's not quite easy to do (just comparing with the crap that's today's popular music).

If you ever gonna head over on to Germany, Thuringia be sure to tell me, i'd like to spend some money to see you playing! Well, anyways, keep up the good work! Of course i subscribed to your channel, btw;).

  • You are amazing!

  • Thank You! - Matt

  • I've play my whole life but not like that. I haven't heard pinetops since my grandmother use to play it when I was a kid. You are fantastic! Keep playing its inspiring....and nothing that exciting ever happens at our Borders!

  • Thanks for the Comment! - Matt

  • WOW! Ticklin' those ivories to the nth degree, absolutely FABULOUS!!

  • What piano is that?? It sounds great!!

  • I think it is a Kawaii - it's not the easiest to play though - I play annually @ this borders and it's always a bear of piano to play - I'm always tired after - thanks for watching! - Matt

  • How does anyone rate this with less than 5 stars . . . outstanding.

  • Thanks for this comment! - Matt

  • AWESOME!!!!!!

  • Matthew's version of Pinetop's Boogie Woogie is one of the best out there. Just listen to some of the others and you will see.

  • you and rob rio are both godly - unreal , unbelievable, and just out of this world .

  • GENIUS at work ;)......fantastic!!!!

  • YOU DA MAN MATTHEW...I'm on my way to Itunes....Thanks for the greatest version of Pinetop's Boogie. You make him proud! You "Border" on being a piano genius.

  • Version superbe....!! quelle dextérité !

  • This is indeed one of the best versions of Pinetop's Boogie Woogie. It's also nice to see how it graduallytransforms to, or rather incorporate elements of, the Albert Ammons version - Boogie Woogie Stomp.

    Really great playing!

  • Wow o.O

  • OMG> I am a huge Booker fan and I just heard someone who maybe out does him? This is definately the best version of this boogie I've ever heard! Thanks, you made my day!

  • Phenominal - you should be on the radio!

  • unbelieveble cool

  • Great video Great sound. We are nearly dressed the same.

    Regards

    GoGoshKa--K

  • I 'd give a 6-star if I could!

  • I've heard a lot of Booogie but no one can touch this !!!!!

  • fucking hell you are brilliant =D respect.

  • Good lord you're good. Wish I could do an 1/8 of what I am hearing.

  • Hey Matthew, is the left hand pattern that you use in this boogie exactly the same as the one you use in Roll 'em Pete? I am desparate to know what it is. I think I have it, but I can't see what finger you use on the last note before the down beat. Is it a 2 or a 1? And do you really play two fifths and a sixth consecutively in the pattern? Please tell me. My life depends on it.

  • Well what do ya know! Here is a great boogie-woogie player! I love the groove of it! It sits down solidly in its tempo and doesn't budge. It just cooks up like some great boogie stew. Bravo. Bravissimo. (I love it.)

  • There's a white shoe visible under the piano, it never moves! has the guy got a pulse?? (fantastic playing, what a gift, you lucky person!)

  • you are seriously good man

  • i like that u keep it nice and cool. U dont rush the tempo! 5 stars!

  • hey..do you do weddings, parties, receptions etc? i really like your playing!! lemme know! Z baby

  • As someone who listened to Pinetop..... I must say you play his song with greatness.... I love it............ ;))

  • You know how to play the REAL stuff, absolutely flawless and 5*****!

    Many thanks.

    Mike

  • You play really good!

    Five stars!(of course...)

I have been looking for the music to this piece for a while - where were you able to find it?
