I bought this basically because I adore Godflesh and was suprised how much I enjoyed it as I like a handful of rappers and loved the mix of rap and industrial pounding.
thirdshift, im afraid to tell you that you have no idea about music if you think TR isnt a patch on them. trent reznor was doing insanely industrial nuke grade music since 88 and has massively progressed throughout his expansive career. he is the godfather of industrial and a massive portion of this music your listening too. so learn some more about music first.
kraftwerk are electronic-synthpop-krautrock with but a hint of industrial. throbbing gristle are industrial i accept but WAY more experimental THAN indust.

TRENT REZNOR has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide since 1988 and in that space has had a 10 year gap for drug rehabilitation! and In 2004, Rolling Stone placed Nine Inch Nails at 94 on its list of the 100 greatest artists of all time and In 1997, Reznor appeared in Time magazine's list of the year's most influential people! i havent even started on the rest of the reznors great factors! : ]
my point was that he has not been around long enough to be considered the "Godfather" of industrial. To be honest it is partly his fault for the deluge of naff metal/dance crossover twatting bands that loosely pass themselves off as industrial. Kraftwerk may be as you describe them, but they are an important influence on industrial in general. As far as Throbbing Gristle go, they coined the term , not Mr Reznor. Although I appreciate your devotion to him, and his music.
TG and Cabaret Voltaire are often thought of to be the originals. TG started out as a performance art group more than a band. And yes, Industrial Records is where the genre takes its name from.
I have nothing against Reznor because I like NiN too, its a more (if I dare say it!) "poppy" approach to Industrial that brought the genre more into the mainstream in the 90s.
@878commando well, you are confusing it with electronic music in general there, I think, but yeah - throbbing gristle, Killing Joke, Swans, Godflesh etc. ...and ministry I suppose, but they came later
Yes, I would agree with you. For me Ministry brought Industrial music into a new era when "The Land of Rape and Honey" came out. That album just really blew me back.
@878commando There's really no other reason that I can think of for you to use that name on a video like this. Karlheinz Stockhausen has absolutely nothing to do with the music presented in this video. Also, nothing in my comment implies that I would do the same. You're trying to be clever, I guess. That's cute.

What? Throbbing Gristle formed Industrial Records, from which the genre takes it's name.
They are the original Industrial band. Not "WAY more experimental" than industrial, they ARE industrial. NIN are industrial/rock crossover.

@878commando you forgot skinny puppy as the godfather of industrial

well pointed out lun7. I think the main thing is that we all enjoy the music that fits under the Industrial tag. Salute to you all, and out.

Really the idea of "Industrial music" was birthed with the Italian Futurist movement of the early 20th century.
Of course, it was TG that resurrected the concept and Neubauten who pushed it to its logical extreme, but that's really the seed that gave rise...
If unfamiliar, look up Luigi Russolo & read the Art of Noises.
I only mention it because I figure if you don't know it, you'd be interested.
Oh, and great tune. I heard Techno Animal way back when, but never bought any. Think I will now...
