@coolsweetgroovy Hi there my friend.I think Melinda married Brian for his money and adopted 4 kids to be finanialy secure.she was a car sales person before and they met through Landy.I watched them on Larry King and Brian said something in Marilyns defense, well Melinda got so upset and it showed onTV.Marilyn made a remark not to long ago saying that he should not be pushed to leave him alone.I think Brian wants to retire but the bitch is pushing him to do concerts and make commitments.
@coolsweetgroovy this is the time when Brian should be making it up to his blood children and grandkids.i heard a long time ago Mariyns and Brians divorce settlement was a generous one because he married her when she was 16 and took away alot of years.this must kill Melinda.they dont like each other.Melinda just wants to be a part of rock and roll adopt 4 kids at her old age and be Brians manager.i could go on and on.hope to hear from you with any info you may have.peace Desiree
@coolsweetgroovy PS i think Marilyn is such a wonderful woman.I never met her but i can tell by the interviews shes given.she may have had hard times with Brian but she never once spoke bad about him.I also think her daughters Carnie and Wendy are good people down to earth, who deserve alot more of there father.Brian knows he made a mistake when they were growing up and i think he wants more time with his daughters but someone is holding him back.its called manipulation.Peace Des
@formbymaniac Yeah, that's the original lyric---"I'm so break up." That's the original lyric---that's how Kingston Trio sang it (Johnny Cash sang "homesick: in his version." Brian changed it to "broke up." He also changed "this is the worst trip since I've been born" to "...I've ever been on."
I'd have to agree about the comments on Carl Wilson. Although, I'm sure the enormous ego on Mike Love would have him contradict this statement. It was clear he thought of himself as the leader, and did a lot of the yammering on stage over the years. I always found him to be obnoxious, overbearing, and a pompous ass.
Checking out 'Behind the Sounds' and it's just amazing watching the entire recording process. Brian was and is a total genius!
@IndoeLoop Like I always say, "Mike Love is lucky to have the Wilson brothers. he added nothing to the band but a tambourine, plus he is a total dick!"
Everyone who ever listened to the Beach Boys know how great their musci was and how much it influenced those that followed. While a lot of credit if given to Brain Wilson & Mike Love, most don't know that it was Carl Wilson who kept the group together during the tuff years when Brian no longer toured with the band and stayed in his bedroom for years. Without Carl Wilson the Beach Boys fame may have been a passing fad. Carl was a great singer which is shown in this video.
@orengamblesr Yes. and, when I saw the Beach Boys in Concert 1986, Carl sounded incredible. So, eventually, he became the most important member, by far. And, his contributions in the late 1960's saved The Beach Boys, when Brian stopped touring. .
Impeccable melodies and harmonies. The BB's influenced every rock and roll artist that followed them. You can clearly hear their influence upon Pink Floyd, among others.
Just imagine what it would have been like if they beach boys did if you wanna be happy for the rest of your life never make a pretty woman your wife [ the ugly woman song ] .
That's the original word from both the Carl Sandberg poem and the Kingston Trio's version of the song. The word "Broke" was intoduced in the BB's version. While GRAMMATICALLY correct, it's lyrically inaccurate.
I like this version, but it's interesting why Carl keeps saying "break up" instead of broke up. The "original" is my all-time favorite song, though. I'd never heard this one before.
Those shirts look familiar. Aren't they wearing them on one of their albums? Oh wait... there's another video where they are wearing striped shirts on the Andy Williams show. Maybe that's it.
the 'SHIRTS' were kinda there TRADEMARK when they did photo shoots and performances till about maybe about 67 or so? then they ditched them..and just wore what they wanted! :-) BB5 Forever! <3
Murry made them wear them because he wanted them to project a clean cut image like the letterman or the kingston trio that wore them he said in an interview he didnt want them to shake their hips in skin tight pants and low cut jackets like elvis then he said dont say elvis say other artists .
That style of shirt is called a Pendleton. The original name of the group was the Pendletones, after the shirt. Their manager or record producer changed the name to the Beach Boys, before releasing their first album, without the band's knowledge. The rest is history.
@footloosebowler There's a dvd floating about, it has footage of them live in London but the audio either wasn't recorded or is lost so it has different audio overdubbed. The dvd goes under different names though, one of them is Swinging 60's The Beach Boys and another is Beach Boys In London 1966. The footage is terrific but the audio is available elsewhere.
I wont to go home more than anything, so bad. But see I've dug a grave by fucking around on my girl of 16 yrs.God, I know what it's like to be homesick.I haven't touched food in over a week and the only thing I feel I have to hold to right now, for some reason is the beach boys.
Get this! I was in Israel last summer visiting with the wife's rabbi cousin and family. Following a Sabbath meal, we all sing a three or forth century Hebrew prayer to this very same tune! He suggests coincidence but maybe even G-d knows a great tune when he hears it. Any Orthodox Jews aware of the prayer I'm refering to? It was trippy.
Pet Sounds box set is absolutely worth the price if you'd like a clearer idea of how it was produced. It has vocals only and instruments only versions of every song plus lots of early takes with BW instructions and discussions between BW & musicians.
Personally, I prefer the released version with Brian instead of Carl on verse 1. Also, Mike has stronger 2nd verse effort on the the released version. Is the Pet Sounds Box worth it if you have the Mono/stereo P.S. disk ?

It really shows you how much went into Pet Sounds and why it is regarded as the landmark album it should be. Amazing.
Brian was a musical pioneer in the truest sense of the word.... orchestrating genius pop compositions!!
