  • I'm 24 now and rediscovering all these episodes on this site. Man, it's still as wonderful as it was when I watched it as a little kid.

  • I'm 30, but when I was between the ages of 5 and 7, this was one of my favorite shows.

  • Old Skool..Sam n Jody

  • OLD GUY SOUNDS LIKE AL BUNDY

  • Is it weird that I never forgot the magic words, and that's actually what I put in to find the name of this show? I'm 25, almost 26 now and I remember (vaguely) watching this.

  • i'm 33 years old........*starts to cry*. can i get a napkin someone?

  • @TT1478 I feel ya. I'm turning 35 this year.

  • @SirHatchporch chiiiiiiiiiiiile!!!! sometimes i feel like i'm old but i'm not.......lol

  • Oh how I miss this show sigh!

  • I use to watch this everyday when I was a kid! I didn't know it ran for 6 years. That's amazing for a kids show anymore!

  • OMG i remember this ahhh hahaha

  • WOW!!! I am 8 years old again.

  • Or does it merely seem that things were better back then due to the innocence of our childhood? As an adult now I can safely say America in the 80's wasn't so blissfully remembered by those who were aware enough to understand what was going on. It was nowhere near as bad as the bottomless pit it is today, but still it was no laundry detergent commercial either.

  • Hey nerene is gotten up there in age

  • i miss this show!,LOVED IT growin up!

  • Holy Crap! All these old shows bring back so many great memories, children's shows like Mr.Dressup,Fred Penner,Mr.Rogers,Sesame Street all were way better then today's children's shows, today they seem too simple....great memories though.

  • I LOVED this show!!! I always remembered it but I couldn't remember the name. It's a good thing my friend posted this on Facebook! :D I watch this in the 90s and I'm pretty sure it was on YTV...

  • @PleatherGirl it wasn't YTV, it was TVO that has itI I LOVED this show!!

  • I am 28. There is a reason people harken back to things like these. This country is so far gone today. We look at old shows, old Presidents, old times. Because...they were better. A gallon of gas was 70 cents...you could trick or treat without freaking your kids out...we trusted each other more...TV was better all around...Reagan was in the white house. Oh God...those were the days

  • I absolutely LOVED this show. Noreen Young who created Under The Umbrella Tree, created all the puppets for this show, too! I was lucky enough to make puppets at her house, twice! I miss those days...

  • Nostalgia = through the roof

  • I used to love this stuff. Kids shows are such crap now. Everyone's trying to wear the best outfit, charm the opposite sex or buying sneakers with lights in them.

  • weres the episode were sam gets swindled at the car lot and buys a clunker . ! Lol

  • Holy Shit, I watched this religiously as a kid.

  • I remember being an American kid being raised by my Canadian parents...aka "Today's Special" and "You Can't Do That On Television"

  • WOW does this bring back memories... I miss this show.

  • @StarKnight1Sunshine I know I miss watching it every morning after Sesame Street, hehe. TV Ontario's public archive did post some episodes, which is great. :)

  • @NeverDoubt1 Now see when I was a knee-high tot, I didn't know this show was Canadian. I have to admit, this and "You Can't Do That On Television" were among the shows that made my childhood, so I think I can safely say that Canada knew what-all was up when they made those two shows, among many a classic more I'm sure. :-)

  • @StarKnight1Sunshine I didn't know it was Canadian either. It's great that the show did so well in both markets. :)

  • OMG i remember this..:D

  • Wow this was my favorite show when I was 5.

  • None of my friends remember this show. I now have proof!

  • @heula1 Yeah I know my friends don't remember it either but I watched it all the time, lol.

  • IM DONE!!!! This show used 2 fukkin rock!!! OMG:)

  • That mouse = Dana Plato

  • I had such a kid crush on the blackwoman back when a crush wasnt sexual

  • @poppy77 Oh yeah, me too, big time.

  • WOW I REMEMBER THIS BACK WHEN I WAS LIKE 8 OR 7YRS OLD FINALLY found and remember the name of this classic NICK show Today's Special. damn I feel soo old

  • I loved this show when I was little. I remember watching it on Nickelodeon. My favorite episode was when they were going to tear the store down until they found out it was a historical building with a historical plack inside Muffy's house.

  • This also aired in the US when I was a child in the early 80s on nickelodeon.

  • @malicexcx Yup, back when Nickelodeon had a much more unusual line up (in a good way, hehe).

  • @NeverDoubt1 This and Pinwheel were my shows!

  • @CarlD2 Yup, I watched Pinwheel too. Kind of lower budget Sesame Street but still fun, hehe.

  • In one of the scenes, you could see a TTC PCC streetcar passing through the front window and the show took place along St Clair Avenue somewhere.

  • My favorite show when i was younger

  • Lets see, department stores don't exist anymore, *I mean where they literally have an entire part of the building for each dept.*, manniquins don't exist anymore, the closest things I ever see are those little solid white headless things, they use to look life-like. When did the world start sucking?

  • @littlebit19801 April, 14, 1994, thats when it started sucking

  • @lander77477 I think more like 2004. lol

  • @littlebit19801 When WalMart came along? Hehe

  • i did

  • Was this filmed in Eaton Center or Dufferin Mall?

  • @cantryss I think it was filmed at the old Simpsons downtown.

  • I remember watching this all the time. Really makes me sad when I think of how long ago that was and how the years will keep going by. We've all said it at one moment or another, "If I had a time machine..."

  • i went to high school with the kid whose mom did the voice for muffy the mouse.

  • WOW WHATS THAT WOMEN SMOKING? A MANNEQUIN THAT COMES ALIVE, A PUPPET SECURITY OFFICER AND A RAT THAT TALKS ! !

  • best show for kids, grew up on this and i'm not the least bit scared of mannequins coming to life, i love sam and the computer's pseudo-romantic-passiveagressive relationship

  • man back when Nickelodeon was awesome

  • "Apparently, it aired in Canada"

Apparently? APPARENTLY??! This is a Canadian show!! Canadian Classic at that.

  • @Draeism the department store used to be Simpsons on Queen Street, it is now the Bay, but the building is called the Simpson tower.

  • @Draeism God - it's been 20 years. I used to watch this growing up! Oh the memories.

  • @Draeism yup! you tell 'em!

  • @Draeism But millions of kids in the USA, watching it at the time, didn't know that, and wouldn't have known that unless they paid attention to the credits (which kids don't really do until they're older), or they read the wiki page or something when they grew up. Besides, i don't think it even was shown in the USA until it went into syndication in Canada, but i could be wrong. It's not always fair for Canadians to say "duh" when Americans are ignorant to things they don't need to know.

  • @Shikkyn Speak for yourself, I was a precocious American child and I watched the closing credits as it said TV Ontario, many kids' shows came from Canada.

  • @Shikkyn "It's not always fair for Canadians to say "duh" when Americans are ignorant to things they don't need to know." Yeah it is. Plus, I don't think the person who posted the video is a kid anymore.

  • @Shikkyn Very fair. As a Canadian kid I never knew what was local or American until I got older.

  • This show is the reason I'll be naming my first child Jody...

  • It's been so long since a tear has left my eyes. this show brought back this inner feeling of peace and bliss. it was my all time favorite when I was 4.

  • I remember watching this show on CBC when I was little

  • we were exposed to American Express Advertising as kids each time we watched this show?

  • Muffy was such a little cunt!

  • I watched this when I was 11, cause I had a crush on Jeff. However, I really couldn't stand Muffy, everyone bent over backwards to spoil her.

  • Oh god I was sooooo young when i ussed to watch this before bed time!

  • oh how simple life used to be:(

  • I remember this & reading rainbow were my 2 favorite shows to watch.

  • my all-time FAVORITE childs show. Ahh the memories!!!!!!!! Thanks for bringing a smile to my face and a tear to my eye.

  • my all-time FAVORITE childs show. Ahh the memories!!!!!!!! Thanks for bringing a smile to my face and a tear to my eye.

  • Memories....Memories...

  • I used to get freaked out by this intro as a child... I would always go into department stored with my mother thinking that the dummies would come alive or that something psicadellic would happen and rainbows would appear out of nowhere... strange.

  • I never understood why he made sure the door was locked, and THEN checked the children's department for people. Also... I think Jeff and Jody should have gotten married!!

  • This show was made in Toronto Ontario Canada, somewhere along St Clair Avenue West

  • Ah good memories...I absolutely loved this showing growing up....

I wonder which mall some of the scenes in the intro were shot at.

  • @Atalanta01 It was shot on location at the former Simpson's department store at Yonge and Queen West.

  • this shit's creepy as fuck

  • I used to watch this show when I was a kid, and I would masturbate to Jody :)

  • i miss this show!!!!! wish it still came on.. i remember this but none of my loser friends do..

  • Fuck yeah, adventure! Today's Special kicked ass! Kicked ass!

  • I watched this when I was super little... probably only 2 y/o since I was born in Jan 1985 and it went off the air in 87.. I thought they could see me through the television and I always was on my best behavior... this brings back some memories.

  • Wait i think i saw this show once.

  • I haven't seen this since I was like, 3. I can't believe I remember it.

  • I always thaught they shot this at our local Montgomery Wards at the time

  • -"Today's Special is Adventure"

    ME: "NICE"

  • Hocus pocus indeed!!!! OMG!!! Love it!!

  • Oh goodness! I loved this show when I was little.

  • LOL, I just realized something. In the opening shot, Sam locks the front door. Then Sam and Jodie go up to the children's department. Sam does his Pedobear impression and peaks around the corner, then says "Ok. It's clear. The customers have all gone home now." Now correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't he check to make sure that the customers have all gone home BEFORE LOCKING THE FRONT DOOR? I guess they didn't think that one through.

  • wow! Brings back good memories :)

  • This is part of what shaped me into who I am. Considering I watched this and Pinwheel for 8 hours a day every day during the summer .

  • Apparently? It did air in Canada then. We had the best kids shows when I grew up. Happy Canada Day.

  • @HighAndDry1979

I must agree 100%...you Canadians have given the World some top notch shows....this one, The Beachcombers, The Littlest Hobo, and the best of them all, at least in my eyes, TKODS and DJH....and don't forget poutine...yum o.....

  • @cotters1 Don't forget Danger Bay and the Mighty Hercules. Oh, and Rocket Robin Hood. And, of course, Degrassi. The Forest Rangers is great stuff, too. Fraggle Rock was partially Canadian produced, too. Camp Cariboo was great.. And ladies and gentlemen, the Raccoons!

  • Thanks remembering is soothing

  • Anybody else think Jeff was balls deep in Jodie between takes? This was filmed in Toronto, interracial relationships were accepted there back then.

  • @runawayboulder LOL! I was thinking that same thing but didn't want to say it!

  • I can't imagine what my childhood would have been like without TVOntario. They, and PBS, were the true experts of their time at making television into something meaningful and educational for kids.

  • @icarus313 and the Old YTV!

    Fully agree!

  • @CescoPisicoli

Oh right, can't believe I forgot about them!

  • nickalodean was the shit in the late '80's early 90's with this, danger mouse, u cant do that on tv , i mean salute ur shorts, dude ranch classic

  • I knew I was crazy !!!!

  • I use to love this show!

  • Today's Speeeeecial! Come join in the fun!

    Today's Speeeeecial! It's for everyone!

With magic everywhere! A world for us to share!

And friendly faces hoping that you'll want to meet us there

    for Today's Special!

It's about to appear! (It's about to appear!)

Today's special! Shout it loud and clear!

    TODAY'S SPECIAL!

  • Muffy, that was a strange puppet cat

  • I named my very first pet, a black cat, Muffy because of this show. She was a stray who happened to explore our garbage cans for food. At the time, I was four. My mother took her in. She lived with us for 14 years. She was the best pett a young boy growing into a man could ever ask for. Thinking of the show reminds me of Muffy and vice versa. They sure don't make kids' shows like they used to.

  • i used to love watching this show!!!

  • i'm 30 now, and remember this fondly...ahhh...thanx...TODAY'S SPECIAL!...

  • i was so young when i watched this show that no had yet tried to tell me that black people are different from white people, so i didn't even notice that the 2 main characters looked slightly different. why do stupid people have to go around ruining the world?

  • @skejaqueda- it was a Canadian show. It was filmed in Toronto and shown on TVO.

  • This opening and some episode shots were filmed in The Bay store downtown at Queen & Yonge, back when it was still Simpson's.

  • this was a bit after my time (it was on when i was 10-13 i think but my younger sisters used to like it a lot...funny

  • wow seeing this agian brings back memories and also makes me feel really old lol

  • I loved this show as a kid, but I remember the episode when Muffy befriended a butterfly, and the butterfly died and they had a funeral for it. I think it was supposed to be a lesson on grief, but that shit scarred me for a long time and made me fear and hate death. Fuck you Today's Special.

  • Man, it must have been hard growing up in one of those other provinces. TVO was the place to be! Probably still is, but we're far too old to understand anymore.

  • WOW I haven't thought about this in years!! O_O

  • This show used to scare the hell out of me as a child. I always wondered what would of happened if Jodie dropped Jeff on the way up the escalator and broke his head off and Muffy brought him to life.

  • @misterbarnes Thats what duct tapes for :)

  • I LOVED THIS SHOW SO MUCH!

  • Anybody from any generation has missed out on the greatest television shows that the kids from the 1980's were blessed with.

  • @dwes49 The 80's were a special time to be child!Reality Tv can kiss my ass!

  • OMG! For like 20 years I've been trying to remember what the name of this show was, and could not remember. I just came across the title by complete accident, and looked up this video. WOW! What are the odds?

  • who else waited until the end to shout "TODAY'S SPECIAL"?

  • Comment removed

  • @idealsweetlove AND SHOUTED IT LOUD AND CLEAR hehe

  • Little*

  • I use to watch this when I was litt

  • Holy crap! I remember watching this show when I was a kid! Oh, memories. *sigh*

  • I loved this show as a kid. I wish it were still around so I could play it for my children someday. I can't even find any videos or DVDs of this show!

  • :'( I miss this so much

  • I've been looking for this for awhile! I could never remember anything about it except the puppet guy...I remembered him very clearly for some reason

  • took me yrs to find out what this show was called. loooved it!

  • i always wanted to bang the black chick.

  • I am a man. And I am crying.

  • I love youtube for stuff like this. The memories are incredible.

  • This definitly brings back alot of chilhood memories for me as well.My brother and I used to watch this all the time. They dont make shows like they used too.

  • So uh heh heh, anyone getting close to building a time machine yet so I can go back and relive when this show was on? Anyone anyone bueller bueller?

  • This was an awesome show! I miss it. Nickelodeon needs to bring all these old shows back so kids nowadays can enjoy them.

  • It is actually Canadian show....filmed in Toronto

  • @draet12 wasnt book mice filmed in Toronto

  • I think this is one of the first shows I ever watched as a kid! This gives me goosebumps because I couldn't remember what it was. All I remembered was a mannequin going up an escalator. I can't believe I found this!!! Then the hocus pocus and the song bring everything back. Man this is so nostalgic it hurts. This and that show Pinwheel from Nickelodeon do that to me.

  • Holy COW. This memory was GONE. Thank you, youtube.

  • took me forever to figure out what this show was called. i have very vivid memories of watching this show as a child. but couldn't remember the name of the show. hearing the music brings it all back. makes me miss being a kid.

  • fucking amazing.

  • canada my arse. i lived in kentucky and caught runs of it when i was a wee lad.

  • Yet for some strange reason i can only envision a rope tied in a noose. (notice how i had to word that in order not to cause people to alert others that i might be a danger to myself.)

  • Ah! That's the name! Today's Special... This is one of the last ones I remember from my early childhood, always wondering what in the hell that show was.

  • Yay!!!!!! I just remembered Muffy after all these years & decided to check good ol' YouTube! ;)

  • I'm 30. I sent this video to my brother (29) and sister (27).

My brother said, "wow, this takes me back to a time I can never go back to."

    I must say I agree.

My sister said she remembered a little bit about it.

My brother and I would try to guess what today's special would be. He'd always guess dinosaurs -- and he got it one time.

  • Sam remindes of of a security guard that I know thats about 74 yearsold then.

  • This show ran while I was normally in school, so the only time I ever really got to see it was when I was home, sick. :)

  • I guess the 23 dislikes are iCarly fans...

  • I loved this show when I was a kid! :D

  • This making feel so old, I loved this show as a kid.

  • shout it loud and clear!

  • The nightwatchman should be fired. He spends all night in the childrens department with no pants, allows unfettered access to a manaquin theif, and does nothing about the rat problem in the store.

  • I loved this show, I used to watch it all the time because as a child I was babysat by the same grouchy old woman who watched Jodies son.

  • The security guard sounds like Al Bundy/Ed O'Neill

  • Did anybody else ever notice that during this show, Sam always only had one freakin' monitor to watch the store? and it always looked like it was broken down for some strange reason, it just kept flashing.

  • thanks

  • HOLY GOD MY CHILDHOOD.

Reading the comments is almost as amazing as finding this video. Kid's television was the shit when I was a kid. (I'm turning 28 this year.)

  • The first minute out of context, seems like they are having a booty call.

  • "now i'd like to introduce, a nursery rhyme by mother goose"

  • i watched this on tvontario in the early 90s

  • lol this is some nostalgia

  • I have faint memories of this show, but I remember that I REALLY liked it. So many old shows I miss. Dang...

  • Id give anything for this show on DVD..

  • why is retrojunk so fuckin lo fi

  • ::tears:: talk about a time warp....man does this bring back the memories!!!

  • I remember seeing this on PBS in the afternoon back in the mid to late 80's. Something about it always gave me the creeps.

  • I named my goldfish Jodie and Jeff because of this show.

  • I thought I dreamed this show!!!!! This intro is just as I remember...

  • Loved this show, watched it long beyond the time I should have stopped. I always wondered why Mother Goose shows up in this intro, though; it's not like nursery rhymes have a major presence on the show, unless there's some poem about a living mannequin I haven't heard. And why wasn't The Mime Lady in the intro?

  • Thank You Creator!

    great show
