You guys are playing hard (the sound is not good for video) remember Spider is not about loud its about a relaxed funk that comes from playing together as a constant loop of instruments in Toccata and fugue style. These folks are playing spider way to fast and missing the timing funk that is generated from the cymbals and instruments
@boarthefighter you have obviously never heard the spyder cadence, the basses count off cause they are supposed to have a little feature in the beginning.
@antononly dude I play every friday at football games fyi. I understand what you're saying though. In my drumline, the snares just count off everything, so I guess this drumline is just different from mine. My bad...
@boarthefighter this is the way that every drumline plays the cadence, it's the way that the cadence is written, the snare will do a verbal count off, and the basses start the feature.
Tenors, can you please make your drums level with each other? That is sooo annoying when drumlines can't take the time to look professional. Before you play the first note, it already looks bad. In marching percussion, half of how you sound is how you look! Remember that.
Tenors, can you please make your drums level with each other? That is sooo annoying when drumlines can't take the time to look professional. Before you play the first note, it already looks bad. In marching percussion, half of how you sound is how you look! Remember that.
whats up with the snare technique? and thats definitely not the REAL version of spider like what suncoast sound played. and the tenors are super dirty and the snare rolls suck to. also everyone is looking around. just not very good at all
but for a small school in mid missouri with no percussion instructor and only two weeks into the season, this wasn't that bad so ease up y'all. and for the record, we're a pretty talented group... the lead tenor in this video graduated last year and now plays tenors for the purdue drumline as a freshman. the rest of us graduate next year, and i know two of us who will be playing for mizzou.
wow this was our line two years ago and lookin back, all y'all are right: we were bad. match grip looked horrible, it was something we decided to try out the year after our percussion director left so we could ease a new freshmen onto the line, turns out it was a bad idea....we're back to trad now. god knows why our tenors looked soo janky, those are fixed now too btw. the "tubby" cymbal player is actually a nice guy tho, so fuck you whoever said that.
all instruments are tuned horrible it sounds like a wave of sound cause they are not tuned the same. tenors are over powering here they are just to resonate behind the tenors to beef up the sound and wow those tenors are horribly positioned.
@KeishaAlexis Thats what i say to my percussion director! he absolutey hates traditional grip! he said "I want the snares to play match grip because you have been playing it longer." im like what the fuck? did u know that in the high school band the whole point is learning new things? and get this... he let the drumline in 2009 play traditional grip...
yeah two of the bass drummers aren't playing in the center of the head no traditional grip for the snares looks pretty bad and tenors are uneven and the middle cymbal doesn't know how to crash properly
thats a cery nice cadence..... y did u kill it wit ur macthed grip and no style and. i hope u guys are a middle school band otherwise u suckU DONT EVEN NO HOW TO MARK TIME!
Snares... Why? Matched grip looks horrible. Not only that, but there's also no declared position for playing. Everyone's elbows are doing their own thing, some are too far out, some are scrunched into their sides... I suggest traditional style and work on setting a uniform "set" and "playing" position, and stick with it.
welllll, i would agree with you on that, but dartmouth high school plays match. and at the WGI world finals, they get like top 3 every year so theyre pretty bad ass.
Yes i do, well we dont use it, we Re wrote the spyder cadence and call it Green spyder, Cept we wont give out the music its gulf high cadence and ill put a video up as soon as i can.
Bas ass? This video made me lol quite a bit but i almost died laughing when i saw it said badass in the description. Many things bad, for one i dont like matched grip, looks dumb. Everyone apparently has no idea where one is bc they r all marking time differently. To me the tenors and basses should be tuned higher. And tenors need to play at the edge of their drums, not the middle bc it deadens the sound.
Basses need to mark time in sync and hit those 32nd bass runs, do that and it would sound a hell of a lot better. snares sound sloppy, and matched looks sloppy.
Quince sounded pretty good.
And cymbals...well they're not a very difficult instrument to figure out.
those snare drums look small, center tenor's drums look off... first bass raise your drum as high as you can!! 3rd cymbal looks like he's new-- ohh and basses need to be torqued uup.. is this practice for a parade or something?
HAHA and the bassline isn't even marking time in sync. God, this is the simplest version of this cadence I've ever heard, especially the bassline!! What, can't handle 32nd note runs on the bassline?
i prefer but match is basically the same thing.... i mean its a little akward on snare but its the same thing lol i dont see y ppl are freaking out about match.... but traditional is a bit harder
yeah Match Grip is pretty cool.. I've seen awesome people play under Match Grip.. Can't really tell what the real sound quality is like with this camera..,but you guys looking fresh..
Anyone suggesting traditional grip should know that there is no technical advantage to it, only cosmetic. Traditional existed when drums were worn on slings and were therefore tilted, so traditional made sense. You can figure out the rest on your own I'm assuming. Good job to this group, they do very well, given their resources and expectations and that's great!
its called traditional cuz thats what they used to use wen snare drums were on slings and tilted. no that they are straight on harnesses it doesnt rly matter. i personally play traditional tho
I thought it was awesome..seeing as though Im in the line. The sound quality does suck so dont judge how it sounds because you werent there. And we play match because we have some freshmen on the line and we werent as confident playing trad. Seeing as though we represented Missouri in the Independence parade we didn't want to risk sounding like crap.
I was very lucky to make snare my first year, and it helped me out tremendously. You should still practice all throughout the season for whatever you want to play next year.
yeah...this is our drumline warming up just before the 2008 National Independence day parade in Washington D.C. the quality is pretty bad because it wasnt taken with a camcorder just a camera with a video feature
Mmmmm match grip.....
