@Magicman21123 I'm pretty sure you don't have to. I believe that buttermilk is similar to yogurt in that it is lactose-free despite being a dairy product.
He's not kidding about how sour these pickles can get, and I love it that way. I left mine to ferment for almost six weeks. Since then I never buy pickles from the store.
Wow that looks good. One of my fav. treats when I go to Cinncinnati is fried pickled (Hungarian?) peppers. Wonder if I could use the same frying method for those. I guess you'd have to taste those cherry flavored ones but it isn't striking a chord with me.
@MightyMax7 Actually, Mr. Wizard is more appropriate if you are old enough to remember him. AB's Inspiration is Mr. Wizard, Monty Python, and Julia Childs.
@flamekeepr Fried pickles are *awesome*. It sounds completely wrong when you first hear of it, but it actually works very well, especially if you've got ranch for dipping :9
Crocks like that can be used to do many things. All sorts of fermentation, as shown, or holding devices for things that need to be kept the same temperature. Not to mention different styles of pickles. The only two uni-taskers AB uses is the fire extinguisher and the julep strainer from the cocktail episode (small sets of spaghetti XD! )
Khadgar, thanks for posting the good eats episodes. I love to use them to teach friends how to cook. I watched the very first episode and have never missed a single one. Alton Broiwn/Shirley Corrhier for president. Food geeks unite.
At my local fair they had those kool-aid pickles and they are pretty darn good. Kinda weird at first. Who would have thought pickles and kool-aid would go well together.
It's not the laws, it's Food Network. They're afraid that their sponsors might get upset if, say, they were competitors of Kool-Aid, since the show itself was promoting it.
I think the ice cream guy is better known as the dungeon guy.
