I travelled all the way from California to celebrate NYE in Sydney. Unfortunately, my vantage point was not great. We sat at Macquaries area in the botanical garden and there's tooooo many trees. We waited more than 12 hours. I do NOT recommend this location. Our other friend we met there said she got into Dawes Point about 1 hr before midnight and her view was great. sigh....

You can't compare the two. Australia's fireworks are set over a massive expanse where as Britian's fireworks are over a smaller area. The are both extremely well done for the settings they're in.

Agreed sydney lost on account of the music choices cause watching this when not actually beeing there it kinda seems like noise. Londons choice of music was well choosen and extremely well combined to the music. I have always been a fan of the sydney fireworks towards the london one but this year london really made a standard for what you can accomplish with music and fireworks.
London also has a centerpiece but in a much more small area and with all the fireworks going BOOOOM in the sky it really makes a bigger impact on the crowd and the people watching the video.
let me settle this debate, im a fanatic fireworks watcher and i can describe the difference between london and sydney. Sydney requires alot more coordination since its a Huge area to cover with symbiotic fireworks which works to the music played, Millions spectators and centerpiece is the harbour bridge.

Unless you have stood there on the banks of the harbour or on boats on the water, you really do not get a true assessment of the scope of the fireworks display. It is massive. 2 million people around the harbour with fireworks covering 5 kilometres of the harbour and a kilometre on the bridge with over 12 minutes of non stop fireworks......

@kalifire how does London's display look like up in the air from a helicopter and also many miles away from the ferris wheel? imagine the London Eye ferris wheel is smaller than the Sydney Harbour Bridge. if Sydney cramped everything in one spot it will be much much more explosive than London's. But Aussies love to please as many spectators as we can, so we spread it out along the harbour so that 1.5 million on the ground could watch.

Good display, but honestly? London has beaten the world for two years straight now. Watch both videos objectively and it's obvious. If Sydney was better, I'd happily admit it, but it lost to London again this year. Still great, mind!

@kalifire how does London's display look like up in the air from a helicopter and also many miles away from the ferris wheel? imagine the London Eye ferris wheel is smaller than the Sydney Harbour Bridge. if Sydney cramped everything in one spot it will be much much more explosive than London's. But Aussies love to please as many spectators as we can, so we spread it out along the harbour so that 1.5 million on the ground could watch.
