  • i don't care how many musicals I see, Billy Elliot will always give me goosebumps.

  • when r the 2011 tony awards?

  • @MultiPearl007 They're usually in June.

  • they should have given 9 to 5 more time since they were not already performing

  • I love that Bret Michaels hat is smashed under the Broadway sign during the next number..

  • @LadyPaige143 along with his face

    ba-zing

  • i would give ANYTHING to just see the Tony Awards in person :p

  • does anyone see 4:50 in the back hahahaha

  • billy.elliot. <333333

  • DOLLY PARTON THEN LIZA AND NPH WAS HOSTING! How were they not cleaning up this theater for weeks after wards with the amount of gaygasms?

  • @myRincon Actually, gays usually don't "gasm" unless Babs shows up.

  • I LOVED this opening number. It truly was inspiring to watch and made me want to go right to New York to see these shows.

HOWEVER, I was bothered that the shows all did their best numbers in the opening number and therefore couldn't do them in their own performances. I thought the individual performances were a let down after the amazing opening.

  • Can you imagine being backstage before this number? Lol, You got Elton John, Sharks and Jets, 1920's Gamblers, Stockard Channing, hottie Aaron, Dolly Parton, Liza, hippies, and story book characters like Humpty Dumpty. Wow lol!

  • I love how there's a mistake in the audio towards the beginning so you hear people in the wings doing lip trills and preparing themselves.

  • i hate that poison performed, but we got their revenge when he ran into the sign. Green Day raped this years tony's and it was horrible. they only perform at the tony's for publicity. they dont actually have a love for theatre. Green Day does atleast love theatre somewhat. u can tell poison doesnt at all

  • @KeepItGayStageNazi it still pains me that they have a musical. they're songs are beyond horrible.

  • Our school did a Follies which the theme was "Shine" and it was based on letting your inner light shine through. And our Finale song was "Freak Flag".

  • Wow, that was awesome! Total play heaven.

  • really good opening. i really enjoyed the guys and dolls mixed with west side story, the west side story cast sounded amazing! and i loves dolly! i feel sorry for bret michaels getting hit with the drop, that must have friggin hurt.

  • I wish my chair would do that!

  • anyone see doctor Phill in 9to5 at @7:50

  • YOU GET IT LIZA.

  • Is it possible for Allison Janney not to look utterly classy?

  • I loved the choreography for 9 to 5 :). I wish I couldve seen it on stage :D

  • the woman in the red dress in the middle during the 9 to 5 dance number looked a bit like alice ripley. just saying.

but she was nowhere near alice, in my opinion. :)

  • Love the Les Miserables part in Shrek xD!

  • 6:00 ☆☆☆☆☆

  • <3 BEST TONYS EVER

  • oh elton...HOW I LOVE YOU AND I love what they did with the west side story and guys and dolls bit. to-NIGHT!!!!!!!!

  • stockard channing and aaron tveit? ...ohhh my god...amazing

  • @StaraziaSelin66 I KNOW!!!

  • @toughcookie5454 yes, i love stockard in grease (lol i know) and aaron...my god, he makes anything amazing.

  • Oh my dear lord. Funniest thing ever is Poison getting crushed by the backdrop!

  • That's Liza with a Z!!!!!

  • Lol the funniest thing is Brett actually broke/bruised his nose because of that xDD

  • can i please have aaron tveit? for my birthday or something?

  • @waveatatteredflag you gotta admit though..he gets a wee bit creeperish when he touches stockard's hair. and then in the you don't know/ i am the one bit, alice ripley runs to him and they have like this weird and long passionate stare ahaha

  • bret is such a loser lol!

  • stockhard Channing.. a true musical legend <3 x

  • thats rizzo

  • I can't find CD of Pal Joey w/ cast where Stockard Channing sings anywhere... makes me sad. :-( Did they even release one?.. Amazon seem not to have it.

  • LOL! this was a disaster at its best! The sound ruined it...i like hearing the performers warm up in the background during performances!

  • Oh my goodness! Goosebumps!!! This is brilliant. Last year's Tonys were so great.

  • such an amazing opening however the sound was a little screwed up

  • AHHHHHH bret michaels!!!! lmfao he hurt his face

  • Not enough Allison Janney love here

  • god Elton john is looking old these days . . He's amazing still but you forget he's not as young as he used to be

  • Karen Olivo and Aaron Tveit are in this. Impossible to dislike.

  • Now WHY is Dolly Parton in the Tony's?!?!?!

  • @MissAlma18Actress Because she wrote 9 to 5

  • Shrek...get off the stage... Just...go...

  • @BwayBoundChristian I KNOW they take one of the best scenes from Les Miz and RUIN IT.

  • Billy Elliot makes me sick.

  • OMG i forgot how awful the sound was last year! :(

  • 1) Amazing.

    2) TONY AWARDS ALWAYS have technical difficulties... it's ridiculous.

    3) One of the #1 rules of the stage... if you have a mic on and your in the wings... SHUT UP! ie. during guys n dolls N west side you could hear ppl and this one chic doin vocal warmups... what is that?

    4) Do ppl not do a dress rehearsal and / or tech rehearsal? ...

professionalism + window = out. lol

    Just saying.

  • @clenserscape #3 lol Josefina Scaglione XD

  • This was beautifully done, the mixing was perfect.

  • THIS is what a tony awards opening number should look like!

What on earth were they thinking this year?!

  • @allofmystuff hey, this year was good

let me guess, ur one of the people who say that green day should not have been there

  • @allofmystuff aaaw..I liked this years :) It was jsut that most of the shows were kinda the same.. (western music)

  • @allofmystuff I KNOW RIGHT?!?! I think they forgot that for some people the Tony Awards are the one chance to see a glimpse of the Theater scene! there were like....a negative amount of musical numbers this year! argh! next year better be AMAZING.

  • um, where's the ending? What a waste of time.

  • Brilliant mix of West Side Story and Guys and Dolls...great arrangement :)

  • Hey all Liza haters, this is show biss, not the freackin' oprah!!

  • @MusicAllDay2 ... That's like comparing Aaron Tveit to Brian Stokes Mitchell. Liza is horrible, while we're on the subject.

  • poor liza just needs to quit......haha

  • @kstatefan56 I sooooooooo agree with you. Last year's Tony's were awsome!!!

  • Liza Minnelli is so overrated, in my humbly right opinion.

  • @jacobflaschen your so right. a while ago she ws in the nederlands at the john kraaikamp musical awards gala and not 1 note of the song she was singing was good. sorry for my grama i'm dutch

  • @joran2april don't worry; your english is much better than my dutch

  • @jacobflaschen Are you from the Netherlands?

  • Aaron Tveit is the sexiest man to hit broadway in forever

  • @AmiraTamran aaron tveit aka the sexy beast of a son!

  • What sucks is that talented actors cannot be presented at their best because the sound is SO ATROCIOUS!!!!

  • i got chills down my back at the Shrek part

  • looking forward to Sean Hayes hosting the award this year. believe it's gonna be great!

  • Nobody seems to mention that not only does Bret Michaels get clocked at the end of his piece, but he is lip syncing his song. check out minute 4:17. He clear coughs during mid note.

  • I was thanking the same thing about the hit to the head at 4:51. Never realized he took that hard of a blow. WOW.

  • Who the hell was running the sound board!!!!?????

  • Actors need to watch out for flys i think!

  • @lister0fsmeg Why has nobody mentioned the fact that Michaels was lip syncing during his performance check out 4:17 on this footage he coughs in mid note.

  • I love the technical difficulties at the beginning.....I swear someone must have had there mike on back stage and been warming up (2:04).....lol

  • when are Tony Awards 2010??

  • @MellovesKarieAnn June 13th

  • @Rckstr228 thanks :)

  • next to normal is the best broadway show ever. it was amazing, i could not beleive it. the story is amazing, the lyrics, and brian yorke and tom kitt are magnificent. :)

  • best ones were "next to normal" and "nine to five"

  • the best was brets fall ahahahahahhaha

  • Oh Liza...never cease to make me smile.

  • who the fuck is clapping lol

  • Ok sad, they will never beable to redo the amazingMusicals of days gone by. The West Side Rendition, horrible!

  • Aaron Tveit <#

  • poison oO yaaaiiiiii!!!

  • they aren't even trying to LIPSYNCH right lmao

  • I'm so tired hearing Elton John's latest lame, sappy and boring showtune, soundtrack, etc. He wrote fantastic music during the 70s and early 80s but once he started penning Lion King soundtracks and appealing to grandmothers, something went wrong. Whenever someone famous dies, a pretentious and dramatic musical gets written, or some type of relief/aid is needed and celebs step in to help, the producers immediately get on the horn with Elton. Poison are overdone as well.

  • Shame the sound was so shocking! I don't want to hear people sirening and coughing backstage while the performance is going on!

  • @JamieCXXX Oh is that was all that racket was at the beginning? I was wondering where it was coming from! And they screwed up on Elton John's mike at the beginning! What a shambles

  • @JamieCXXX give them a break dude, musicals are tricky and sometimes things dont go as planned, techies and staff save the day more than you know...

  • @stilletexas I've been involved in live theatre since I was really young, I know things go wrong. But the fact that it happens right the way through shows that someone on the sound desk was more than a little incompetent... :/

  • @JamieCXXX yeah i hear you, our school just got done doing mamma mia, and there were a couple, very stressful, technical issues, needless to say everyone pretty much wanted to kill the people in charge...

i get it, i was just trying to give credit to the people who right those wrongs...hope i didnt come off agressive or something

    :)

  • @stilletexas Yeah, it's a nightmare huh? No worries though, I was just fighting my corner! :)

  • @JamieCXXX hahaha for sure, but still you gota love doing musicals...

  • @stilletexas Oh yeah! <3 But see if it was something the size of the Tonys you'd be shot at dawn if it was you that let something go wrong... Haha!

  • @JamieCXXX HAHAH shot at dawn... XDD true, very true

  • Im looking for the monkey with wings that Bret was talking about!!!!

    haha!!

  • @beatlesgirl101 It's because his character is a ghost and only the mother sees him until the end

  • HAIR FTW!

  • Poison's little run-in with the backdrop was the theatre gods telling him to NOT LIP SYNC AT THE TONYS!!!

  • Was thinking the same thing-funny. Hope Bret gets better...

  • @AnotherIncipient especially when Dolly is totally singing live :-D

  • @AnotherIncipient no it is someone changing the choreography and cues without telling Bret.

  • i love u tony awards soooo awsome

  • they had a lot of mic probllems

  • Stockard Channing looks the same :O

  • can someone message me wat next to normal is about

  • @beatlesgirl101 It's about a mother who suffers from worsening bipolar disorder, and how it affects her family - in a nutshell :)

  • @mmarie0789 then why doesnt anyone see that boy

  • Also Next To Normal's Aaron Tveit, and Stockard Channing from Pal Joey, and the worst onstage accident I ever saw at the end of the Rock of Ages segment,

  • @gpchoirer I see it now lol my baaad.

  • Did anyone else notice the little flippy thing at about 4;50? Kind of funny :) And what was with the high pitched tongue rolly thing I was hearing during Guys and Dolls? Was Josefina Scaglione warming up with her mic on?

  • i love how aaron tveit got the biggest applause hands down lol

  • If you look closely at 4:50 the Broadway sign hits Kid Rock on the head and knocks his hat off. Lol :)

  • @shaqman145 That's not Kid Rock, that's Bret Michaels. There's a big difference.

  • I wish I could actually hear what Tony and Maria are singing at 3:00 and on.

  • Liza Minnelli is a badass!

  • when are the tonys this year??

  • @Krisby123 June13th. Nominations are being announced on May 4th.

  • I hope Dee Roscioli wins something or at least nominated

  • Did anyone else notice the actor from Rock of Ages get clotheslined by the scenery as Stockard is coming onstage?

  • i love that you can hear 'maria' warming up offstage at 2:00.

  • i love how the HUGE Shrek cast is out fallowed be tinie tiny DOLLY PARTON.(she is my idol)

  • I love Broadway, but have never been to a Broadway show, but want to so bad. I love the music that goes to the shows and the talent to preform like that is amazing. I have XM radio and all I listen to is the Broadway channel with all show tunes old and new. Let me also say that Stockard Channing is as beautiful as ever.

  • This was an epic beginning!

  • Seeing this makes me pine for Spring Awakening...

  • wat the hell is rock of ages??!

  • the "drag queen" is Stockard Channing, she performing a song from "Pal Joey"

  • liza is amazing even with the voice gone. it is amazing what she can do to me and to the audience. amazing. i wish i could have seen her mom.....

  • I wish I could go to these shows!!!

  • Elton looks so freakin' OLD

  • @4MaryAnna

    I'd say he looks DISTINGUISHED.

  • you can say whatever you like,it's your opinion......just like what I said,is mine.

  • they are all amazing im looking forward to tony awards 2010

  • @Simonage862 who isn't? (except for non awesome people) :D

  • i cant believe there is a shrek musical and dolly parton is the best

  • Wow Shrek actually looks cool.

  • EEIIKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AARON TVEIT!!!!!!!!! I LOVE NEXT TO NORMAL!!!!!!!! (which is, without a doubt, the best musical in the universe)

  • Hellz Yeah!!!

  • @mchammar416 You said it! Man, Aaron! That musical rocks. Just saw it on Broadway last Saturday. Amazing!

  • @mchammar416 I love how you can see through his movements how he feels the music....such a great singer and awesome stage presence

  • is someone warming up in the backround at 2:10

  • omg fabulous loves it!!! how fab was LIZA :)

  • Am I the only who thinks it's awesome that Aaron just strolls off still belting his sexy little heart out? Goodness I love him. <3

  • Oh Shrek looks like so much fun!

  • hematite87 you can hear someone warm up. I think it might be maria. But sound in general was just awful!

  • Sound was a DISASTER

  • Can you hear her warming up at 2:09 or am i imagining things?

  • @hematite87 yeeahhhhhhh i am hearing it to... weird.....

  • I thought that was part of the song...

  • Conerning 9 to 5.... The actress whose dressed in red. The one in the middle. Wasn't she in the movie Mamma Mia?

  • No that's Allison Janney, she was in the movie Juno and the film adaptation of Hairspray.

  • @GirlNext111 Ah, okay. Thank you. I thought she looked familiar.

  • @KikimoLie

No but she was in Little Miss Sunshine.

  • This is my favorite opening ever! Even with the mic glitches, all the performances were amazing! I wish I could have been there in person!

  • Did you realize that Stockard Channing sings before Aaron Tveit? Therefore your info box is wrong

  • who cares

  • they should have gave 9 to 5 more time since they were like the only show not performing later in the show

  • hahahahhahaha :49 was amazing <3

  • wooooow the sound was so shitty that year...

  • Who thought that 4:49 was the best part of the clip. I had to watch it like six times before I realized that is actually what happened.

  • I literally gasped out loud when I saw Bret Micheals get pegged in the head.

  • on the whole i was very happy with the 2009 season

  • LOL @ 4:48 :)

  • bahahahahaha this was obviously not very rehearsed

  • the direction/camera work is awful in addition to the sound problems. in the opening part it is never quite clear how many billys are on stage.. even though there were 3 kids the whole time.

  • Bahah the Les Mis refrence in Shrek is almost as good as the Wicked one lol

  • whitch one?
