Fucking Trevor Jones' "Promentory" (The Last of the Mohicans). Cried the first time I heard it. It's since been at the top of my favorite movie scores.
How do you call a music with lyrics guys ? There is no word in english apart from " song " and that excludes the music !! What is the word that regroups both the music and the song ?! Music title ?
please can someone tell me the name of the top soundtrack from this list? I search on youtube all the soundtrack with dark knight and i can't find it. Please...thx!
Damn good list. But no Oldboy, A Bittersweet Life, A Tale Of Two Sisters, Donnie Darko, 28 Days Later, Requiem For A Dream, or anything by Ennio Morricone, Bernard Herman, or Angelo Badalamenti?
You know, I was listening to this wondering: "Wheres The Dark Knight?", so I was happy to find it your favourite. Its top of my list too, alongside Pans Labyrinth, Interview with a Vampire, V for Vendetta (same as you, fantastic movie) and Edward Scissorhands.
I'm going to make a 'Best Soundtracks Ever' playlist, then put the soundtrack from every film ever made in it so you will all shut the fuck up and just enjoy the music.
@aymthebest if you think i am legend, the last of the mohicans, the island, man on fire, the da vinci code and the village in particular are good films then i pity your friends cos you must be dull. Theyre not worth these soundtracks,
@lunardaddy pfff you´re a total ignorant , i can easily realize you´ve not seen these movies otherwise you shouldn´t be here saying so many bullshit, besides everyone has their taste you idiot , watch man on fire then talk

No question this is always a suggestive topic, good list. One of my favorites in terms of both music and appropriateness to the film and story is the soundtrack to The Straight Story by Angelo Baladamenti, a great CD on its own but just incredible when added with the images of the Iowa countryside.
No problem with the selections, they are all decent soundtracks, but these lists always seem to start with movies made in the late 90's and 2000s. Any list of top soundtracks that has no music from the golden age of Hollywood, no Morricone, Nyman or Portman and I guess my preference only, but the wrong Glass score(The Hours is superior to The Illusionist), that list is somewhat short of some quality music.
@yhgs07 You listed very fine but not as good "movie" music.Dont get me wrong... i love Morricone but... listes some of London Filharmonics and you may find something you like... just a hint. oh and Zimmerman is one to be put on the list.

I would say this is an ok selection but you should have refrained from using the same composer (James Newton Howard) so many times. Although he is also one of my favorites it does not show alot of variety in composers
i liked a few of those movies, but only 1 of those songs would i consider to be great/beautiful and thats the thomas newton track from shawshank redemption. another good one you could check out is clair-de lune by debussy, its in the twilight film. regardless of your opinions on the twilight films the music in them is great.
Well it's a subbed english movie movie but definitely has the best soundtrack "The Sword with no name." It's the best soundtrack I have ever heard. The melody is very close to "Braveheart." Give it a try!
Nice compilation, thanks for sharing! Hard to pick a favourite. I quite enjoyed The Orange Tree (The Illusionist). What Do You See? (Sunshine) is perfection. Patrick Cassidy would be my addition to the list. :)
I can see why you didn't pick LOTR, gladiator etc. Most of these themesongs are the less obvious, but still very beautiful. I would put The DaVinci code on number one, that one is too awesome
@Jeroeen145 there are just TOO many AWESOME songs out there, and NO ONE has heard even HALF of them, os it's IMPOSSIBLE to make ONE list, even if you picked the top 100 best movie scores.. there is just too many good songs out there :D
@Aragonsynth2294 I agree with the illusionist being a great movie with a great soundtrack, but what makes the movie great in my opinion is how smart it is, it's one ofthe few movies that RELLY have given me that wonderfull "AHA!" moment when every little bit of the puzzle fell on place :D
Nice selection! Though the bias to JNH and the string sound is noted. Tend to lean to the John Barry trombone sound personally - but hey! I'm a trombonist :-)

@cg57c You're saying that a score can be a rock or pop song? If so...
''Soundtracks'' can be rock or pop songs.
''Scores'' are just music with no vocals.
Soundtracks and scores are two different things.

I guess you can call it classical music or jazz..even though they are not really that similar.

I agree to The Island - My Name Is Lincoln, by Steve Jablonsky. That track caught me off guard completely & brought me to be pay more attention to the wonderful works by every composer. Hans Zimmer & James Newton Howard too! Ah yes The Shawshank Redemption! XD
