  • Bro, you missed Joe Hisaiashi's masterpiece "Howl's moving castle"...

  • Fucking Trevor Jones' "Promentory" (The Last of the Mohicans). Cried the first time I heard it. It's since been at the top of my favorite movie scores.

  • btw whats the name of the da vinci code song?

  • @cali29 Chevalier de sangreal - Hans Zimmer ;)

  • Clint mansell is truly magnifique xx

  • Nice music. What about Schindlers list. Lord of the Rings. To Kill A Mockingbird. I love that music. You did have some great choices.

  • Damn good list. But no Oldboy, A Bittersweet Life, A Tale Of Two Sisters, Donnie Darko, 28 Days Later, Requiem For A Dream, or anything by Ennio Morricone, Bernard Herman, or Angelo Badalamenti?

  • You know, I was listening to this wondering: "Wheres The Dark Knight?", so I was happy to find it your favourite. Its top of my list too, alongside Pans Labyrinth, Interview with a Vampire, V for Vendetta (same as you, fantastic movie) and Edward Scissorhands.

Fantastic choice of music, all very inspiring.

  • I think the soundtrack from the movie Amelie is incredible, it should be top 5 on this list. Check it out, Yann Tierson is a music genius.

  • @DianaBanana1775 Agreed ;) I have put it in another top soundtracks video, which can be found by searching: jb7EUARAe9Q

  • @DianaBanana1775 Yann Tiersen*

  • @Dreamsreallystoned

    Okay Mr* Spelling Nazi

  • @DianaBanana1775 it's just for people.

    Don't feel insulted.^^

  • i nearly completely agree.

    :D

  • @Supercali006 You don't have any soundtrack from any horror movie. Why? You should know they have the best music themes!

  • My only issue is that there is nothing by Ennio Morricone, I really think the Fitsful of Dollars theme fits on here. Apart from that good list.

  • all i can say is.....

    HANS ZIMMER FTW<3 :)

  • Han Zimmer is a great composer.

  • Great list, I love all of these. If the list had been extended to 16 I would have included the Shawshank Redemption theme by Thomas Newman.

    link: /watch?v=X5IrJd72Wq4

  • @skudzer1985 it is there

  • Good numero uno pick. Great stuff man.

  • Simply the truth!

  • The Village. HECK YES.

  • I'm going to make a 'Best Soundtracks Ever' playlist, then put the soundtrack from every film ever made in it so you will all shut the fuck up and just enjoy the music.

  • Thank you for comprising this!

    utterly amazing.

    I wrote down every one.

  • i am legend.

  • What.....no P-Diddly? Nice selection here. Classics will always be...................classics.

  • The first one, from I am Legend, does it have other names too? I cant seem to find it else where, here on youtube? ô.o' maybe im just dumb xD

  • @vPrincessAh

I Am Legend Soundtrack - My Name Is Robert Neville

  • Quite brilliant. Bravo!

  • the dog just dosent need to die its not required

  • Great list of soundtracks but i'm very surprised the hours the last samurai and the thin red line scores aren't included in here.

  • 5.Blood Diamond

    4.the island

    3.the davinci code

    2.Sunshine

    1. I am Legend

  • sunshine is one of my favourite movies, and the soundtrack definitely helps. unearthly beauty really

  • You and I seem to share the same taste in movie soundtracks. Well done my friend!

  • I used Sunrise on Pontchartrain for my GCSE practical drama soundtrack. It worked really well!

  • loved the last of the mohicans

benjamin button was a great choise that didnt even cross my mind

V for vendetta needs no words

    great selection in overall

  • There's beauty to be seen and heard everywhere. If you can't see it, hear it, maybe the issue is something else.

  • some of the transformers soundtracks are beautiful too

  • Yes.

  • sunshine will always be my favorite :)

  • funny how most of these films arent very good

  • @lunardaddy with the obvious exemption of Sunshine! :D

  • @Feddex123 id say half of em are good the other not so

  • @lunardaddy You know nothing.

  • @aymthebest if you think i am legend, the last of the mohicans, the island, man on fire, the da vinci code and the village in particular are good films then i pity your friends cos you must be dull. Theyre not worth these soundtracks,

  • @lunardaddy Let me rephrase. You ARE nothing.

  • @aymthebest i ARE baboon

  • @lunardaddy pfff you´re a total ignorant , i can easily realize you´ve not seen these movies otherwise you shouldn´t be here saying so many bullshit, besides everyone has their taste you idiot , watch man on fire then talk

  • I just want to kiss Hans Zimmer, he's so goddamn awesome

  • u sir, have a fine taste in soundtracks

  • i like this music 2 llisten to quiet rain we played it at our concert and i was wind chimes !!!

ill upload if u want just tweet me at @oh_snap_ellie

  • Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard are geniuses.

  • when you put in 'what do you see' from sunshine i was like 'OMG someone else who thinks this is one the most amazing things they've ever heard in movie soundtracks!'

  • avatar? the godfather? Transformers? :) how about a video game score playlist, halo ODST had a good soundtrack.

  • I'm partial to the rise of the mohicans and blood diamond as well as the dark knight! great selection!!

  • I did mean the last of the mohicans... I am writing an essay on China's rise and must obviously have the word rise in my head... soz

  • The Last of the Mohicans is one of my favorites. I frequently use t to write to.

  • Comment removed

  • The fountain = clint mansell ; the last of the mohicans = T .jones and R.edelman. N ° 1 ever !!!!

  • for the first time, i don't skip to the number one =D

  • Where's Gladiator - now we are free and Titanic

  • @f3oier Read the info and you'll know why they're not included.

  • i can see a pattern here - James newton Howard..

  • Last of the Mohicans is amazingly beautiful music..the movie was rough to watch...but the music was gorgeous.

  • No question this is always a suggestive topic, good list. One of my favorites in terms of both music and appropriateness to the film and story is the soundtrack to The Straight Story by Angelo Baladamenti, a great CD on its own but just incredible when added with the images of the Iowa countryside.

  • oldboy...?pirates of carribean..?terminator 2..??

  • @TheBravo47 i know its just top 15 ,but these ought to be inclued in the top 15...

  • "requiem for a dream" needed to be on this list : /

  • No problem with the selections, they are all decent soundtracks, but these lists always seem to start with movies made in the late 90's and 2000s. Any list of top soundtracks that has no music from the golden age of Hollywood, no Morricone, Nyman or Portman and I guess my preference only, but the wrong Glass score(The Hours is superior to The Illusionist), that list is somewhat short of some quality music.

  • @yhgs07 You listed very fine but not as good "movie" music.Dont get me wrong... i love Morricone but... listes some of London Filharmonics and you may find something you like... just a hint. oh and Zimmerman is one to be put on the list.

  • I would say this is an ok selection but you should have refrained from using the same composer (James Newton Howard) so many times. Although he is also one of my favorites it does not show alot of variety in composers

  • i liked a few of those movies, but only 1 of those songs would i consider to be great/beautiful and thats the thomas newton track from shawshank redemption. another good one you could check out is clair-de lune by debussy, its in the twilight film. regardless of your opinions on the twilight films the music in them is great.

  • what video it the v for vendetta song called ?

  • Well it's a subbed english movie movie but definitely has the best soundtrack "The Sword with no name." It's the best soundtrack I have ever heard. The melody is very close to "Braveheart." Give it a try!

  • Nice compilation, thanks for sharing! Hard to pick a favourite. I quite enjoyed The Orange Tree (The Illusionist). What Do You See? (Sunshine) is perfection. Patrick Cassidy would be my addition to the list. :)

  • I can see why you didn't pick LOTR, gladiator etc. Most of these themesongs are the less obvious, but still very beautiful. I would put The DaVinci code on number one, that one is too awesome

  • @Jeroeen145 there are just TOO many AWESOME songs out there, and NO ONE has heard even HALF of them, os it's IMPOSSIBLE to make ONE list, even if you picked the top 100 best movie scores.. there is just too many good songs out there :D

  • the patriot has a good soundtrack too. you should add that if you ever make a second list :)

  • i love that the Illutionist is in here. one of my favorite movies with a great deal of thanks to the score :)

  • @Aragonsynth2294 I agree with the illusionist being a great movie with a great soundtrack, but what makes the movie great in my opinion is how smart it is, it's one ofthe few movies that RELLY have given me that wonderfull "AHA!" moment when every little bit of the puzzle fell on place :D

  • carrot

  • Sunshine's Surface of the Sun is STUNNING.

  • @3636colv Stunning is literally the perfect word for it.

  • the passion of the christ?

  • Good top 15 choice ;)

  • f off dark night is number one

  • Great choices. I, personally, would have put Girl, Interrupted on here as well. Mychael Dana composed some beautiful work. Again, enjoyed this!

  • Nice selection! Though the bias to JNH and the string sound is noted. Tend to lean to the John Barry trombone sound personally - but hey! I'm a trombonist :-)

  • very good effort... :)

  • I love that The Fountain is on here!!!

  • Some lovely selections on here. Thank you for compiling them :)

  • no one will ever be satisfied with playlist of someone else... make your own let people give opinions on yours :|

  • @khampariya this is bullshit, shut up and suck your own dick

  • @Oldtimers229 Fuck Off :|

  • @Oldtimers229 i bet you can do it :| no seriously post tht i bet everyone will like tht :P

  • je t aime

  • Which TDK song is that? What's it's name?

  • 03: The Village - Those We don't Speak of, by James Newton Howard

  • Im surprised "The Hours" isn't on this list. Big Phillip Glass Fan here

  • What are the first to third?

  • lol i live of the village shawshank v for vendetta and dark knight sound tracks. lol

  • sunshine should be much higher

  • Alexandre Desplat makes the most emotional music =`)

  • Shawshank....everything about that movie was perfection

  • WHERE IS TITANIC?

  • @Imogen6294 read description ;)

  • glad to see "the gravel road" so high up on the list

  • awesome top and great soundtracks

  • No John Williams?!?!

  • beautiful selection:)

  • Last of the Mohicans is by far my favorite of all time

  • What is this king of music genre? pop, classical, new age?

I don't find any composer specialize in this genre of music unless he works in soundtracks field, but there can't be a "soundtrack" genre, mostly because a movie soundtrack can be a hip-hop or rock song, so what can be the genre for this kind of music with this exact instruments? [ex: Sunrinse On Pontchartrain]?

it's a pity there is no known composers for this kind of music away from cinema industry.

  • @cg57c They're called Scores.

  • @xWorIdAtWarx that's what i'm talking about, how could "score" be a genre if it's self can be a pop or rap song? (those what are called genres).

I'm asking about the the rhythm it's self, that non-vocal music that mostly depends on piano and violin, and it's a bit similar to classical music, and can be composed and produced away from the whole cinema industry (so that we don't have to call it OST or score) .. what's its genre?

  • @cg57c You're saying that a score can be a rock or pop song? If so...

''Soundtracks'' can be rock or pop songs.

''Scores'' are just music with no vocals.

Soundtracks and scores are two different things.

I'm no expert on this...but from what I know, I think scores are a genre.

I guess you can call it classical music or jazz..even though they are not really that similar.

  • @cg57c (continued from another post).... And I don't think you can find this type of music outside the movie industry, since I think, most of this music is made during the making of a movie to match the scenes.

  • It can be a type of "New Age" too. Check "Secret Garden" duo songs, it's a bit similar to these, and they are supposed to be a "new age" duo.

and thanks for the inf, i was trying to figure out as this is my favorite kind of music and instruments.. assuming that searching would be more effective and would lead to more notable songs and artists other than Hans Zimmer and Alexandre Displat .. etc.

  • #3, I felt my heart singing.

  • they sound even better when you are watching the actual scene where they are played.

  • There is no doubt that these pieces are amazing and some of the best composers of our time primarily do film scores but is there a chance these pieces mean so much more to us because we have attached an emotion to them from watching the film that is recalled every time we hear the track?

  • Hey... you missed the soundtrack of "Fluke"... GREAT songs on it.

  • thanks

  • the beginng of the illusionist reminds me to batman

  • great

  • skyrim

  • Great picks! I was happiest to see "The Fountain" (though it wasn't a great film, the music is epic), "The Illusionist", and "Snow Falling on Cedars". And your #1 pick, I've always loved the soundtrack to those movies!

  • @OSCEG The fountain was most certainly a great film.

  • @conquestish I think it had great parts and a lot of great potential. I love love love Hugh Jackman and thought the acting was great. I just wanted it to make some kind of sense. I don't mind that it was weird, just that it was nonsensical. Had it made any sense in any degree, I would have loved it.

  • Wow the Illusionist was a bad movie.

  • 13 is cool

  • No Max Steiner? Prokofiev's Alexander Nevsky? John WIlliams??!! What is this?!

  • I have to say I'm not disappointed in these choices at all.

  • nice lineup man this is awesome

  • Some great music on your list that I had forgotten about, thanks for bringing them back into the light.

  • FINALLY I SEE EVEY REBORN IN VFV. YOU SIR, JUST MADE MY DAY. THANK YOU.

  • Thank you for puting in Last of the Mohicans. First time i have seen that on one of these videos

  • you put the perfect list beautiful just beautiful

  • You can tell this was made prior to the release of Inception ;) ... Great list, though!

  • Blood Diamond Soundtrack * * * * *

  • thumbs up for The Fountain by darren aronovsky

  • j.williams > H.Zimmer ! Thumbs up !!!

  • what about Gattaca

  • totally agreed with the DARK KNIGHT

  • The Last Of The Mohicans is epic..

  • WHERE IS UP?!

  • Great Job! Glad to see the fountain on there. I would have liked to have seen Vertigo and Schindlers list though

  • SUNSHINE is great, i love The Assasination of jesse james soundtrack too though.

  • The Village YES!! But where's American Beauty?

  • Comment removed
