Also, I have enjoyed this series but sometime it's a bit boring to the point where I'd rather read a history book. There's no underscore and the actors are not all extremely attractive (this is what makes modern tv and film better nowadays, which is kind of silly). All of the child actors are not very good except for the young Claudius, although his twitch and stutter are VERY exaggerated... anyway thats my review!! The series is quite primitive but it has some very good moments.

The only silly thing about British-Roman film and TV is that the Romans ALWAYS have posh British accents when speaking English. I think this might be because the Roman Empire is an ancient equivalent for the British Empire, in which the elite class seem to reflect those of Britain in later centuries.

@blazin1307 you make an excellent point!! Livia was not evil - or at least not Adolf Hitler evil - she was a matriarch in Rome and a model for the virtuous Roman matron, which is why she was deified after her death like Augustus and Julius Caesar.

The bigger picture here... is that the aristocracy of any country is the demise of itself!? Every civilzation and country has its ruling family! The Clilntons, Bushes and now the Obamas.. are all in 'bed' with each other? That's why "Claudis" is a revelation in understanding what the aristocracy will do to keep it's position in power. Nothing has changed for the last 10,000 years with rulers vs populace. Why are we seeing protesters now in every city confronting the powers that be?

I never understood this fascination of Brits with Roman Emperors and Rome, they were Romans or Italians not Brits it is not your history its the history of Italy.

And the Romans that were the garrison in Britain were mostly German mercenaries.

@Marius26879 What a naive thing to say, so people are only able to be interested in the History of their own "race"? Roman history is fascinating for anyone interested in History.

Even with your way of thinking the Romans and their culture had a massive effect on Britain, it is because of the Romans Europe became so important and powerful, something that is only now just drawing to a close.

P.S The Romans were not Italian, at least not what we call Italian todah, do some research ;)

@jhnx4z I'd just like to point out that the "Livia killed everyone theory" isn't really accepted as fact anymore, allthought it's by no means impossible, it is considered unlikely. The ancient world was fraught with danger and it was not at all unheard of for people to die suddenly and unexpectedly.
