@dbeard772000 Yeah I went and found a dozen. None of them were very big. My dad said he had found some a week earlier. The woods I use to hunt has changed so much. Most of the mature had been taken out by storms which has allowed a lot of underbrush to take over. Looks like I need to find some new spots. I still had fun though.
@dbeard772000 Yeah a little change will effect them a lot. We used to hunt a woods years ago and they logged it and that was real bad. Itwas the only place we ever found the blacks too. Glad you found some. All this rain and humidity is bringing them up. I found a bunch today. If my video loads this year you can watch it lol
Nice vid, I've just recently got into mushroom hunting, scares the hell out of me!!! So far I've only been collecting Shaggy Parasols and Field Mushrooms, the shaggies taste nice but they look awful when cooked, plus they're a little scary to, undercooked, allergies and whatnot, so I'm gonna give up on them and stick with field mushrooms for the time being.
Also finding plenty of good examples of Death Caps, now they're scary!
@smoodiver I dont know anything about them other ones. Id stay away from them just pick the morels. You can buy a morel kit that you plant outside and grow your own. I started one but it takes 2 years and this is year one.
@jmwnycprr The shaggies are a pretty common edible mushroom down here in New Zealand, very easily identifiable, but they do have toxins, they can be mistaken for the green-spored parasol as-well, but I've never come across any of those.
But yea, always better to be cautious. Never thought about growing my own, may look into that.
@smoodiver I didnt know you were down under I thought you were in the states.lol You might be able to get a morel kit and try growing them down there I dont know if they would grow though.
@creekdalton Thanks. We have a lot of peckerheads here in the woods and in the towns lol. They are just the first to come up along wth the little greys. The big yellows should be coming up soon.
All right! I got to ask how many types you personally pick to eat.I know there is probably some like on the tree you said was an elephant ear or something. And is there stinging nettle where you live?I'm talking the stuff that you don't want to let slide between your toes barefoot!
@garbageguru1 I just pick the morels. Oh yeah i eat puffballs to but they grow in late summer early fall. I was wrong on them things on the tree I guess elephant ears grow on the ground but I aint trying them might pick the wrong ones. Yeah got that stinging nettle too. When i was a kid I used to get tore up. I think you can eat nettle too but could be wrong.
Jack this may be the best video you have ever put together. That guy wearing the Reds cap is great. You should star him in more of your films. Thanks for taking me along on this hunt. I hope we can get out again soon.
