  • My question is, when Super Floride was squeezed out completely, did a new toothpaste take his place?

  • This show is the reason that as a child I refused to throw my old toothbrushes away in fear that I was sending them to an early grave and separating them from their family and friends.

  • what the fu.................. i saw this commercial in 1983 when i was just 3 . i had no idea it was mad 9 or 10 years priere.

  • eeeeyyyy groovy, baby!

  • 2:59 -> the best part!

  • I used to love this show :)

  • Oh, another thing I like is the toothbrush song, and I can even remember that from every time I used to watch that show except I never realized until recently that the tune is Three Blind Mice.

  • I remember when I used to watch this show too in the 1980's, but just before freedomfighterguy1 was born. I especially love the music at the end because it makes me happy.

  • "So clean very carefully, three times a day" - YOU'RE KIDDING, RIGHT!?

  • I remember this show being on YTV as well. Do any of you remember the Groggs characters?

  • @freedomfighterguy1 I don't think so

  • @RubyHazeChick you should look them up for the Groggs were characters created by YTV.

  • Man this is a blast from the past!

  • The 4 dislikes are from cavities

  • I remember watching this when I was a kid growing up in the 1980's. BTW I was born in 1981.

  • @freedomfighterguy1 I know right, it was on early in the moring in the 80s not the 70s. I think he got the date wrong

  • Watched this on YTV

  • @RubyHazeChick me too. I remember this show being on YTV as well. Do you remember the Groggs characters?

  • Working in Master Control at YTV in 1989, we used films like these as "fillers", time to pad the start of the next show.

  • I keep on waiting on Grampa to yell out "GOLD GOLD!"

  • oh crap i finally found it!!!! it used to always come on after Putnam's Prairie Emporium on YTV, right before the circus show.

  • This reminds me of the Babaloos.

  • i remember watching this on Captain Kangaroo every morning as a kid. Ahhh the memories.

  • They all have black Pacmen for eyes. And wouldn't Flash be replaced after he was used up. And yes Harry looks like a dildo with a porn stash.

  • we can see we have learnt from our ad mistakes

  • I probably last saw this when I was two.

  • @uriituw same here

  • 2:16-2:30 : "Flash Flouride" is absolutely tripping balls.

  • Anyone think the artists that made this might have been tripping on acid? Why does Flash sound like Wolf-man Jack? Is that sponge related to my dear friend Sponge Bob?

  • Anyone think the artists that made this might have been trippin on acid? Why does Flash sound like Wolfman Jack? Is that sponge related to my dear friend SpongeBob?

  • i remember it being 1978 and my playmate showing me this

  • @MichaelHansenFUN the record I mean

  • this was on a record

    released as a record

  • ha, I loved this show! I can't believe it was in the 70s! I thought it was an 80s thing!

  • I used to watch this as a child, I'll always remember the proper way to brush my teeth.

  • That must have scared the shit out of the kids, hearing the taps come on and whispering voices in the middle of the night.

  • boooo this stinks

  • This is the first time I seen this since I went to the babysitter's after kindergarten in 88'. The first thing I got nestalgic about was that old lady toothbrush sounding like a dude. I always thought that. Did this cartoon doo something with a wash cloth? I remember that, but don't know why.

  • I have sung the "Toothbrush Song" 1000's of times.

  • Damn I forgot all about this!!

  • OMG! I almost forgot about this. It's amazing how crappy they look now, but this was a well meaning way to teach kids to brush their teeth and how. The only one I remembered was the electric toothbrush. I recall the Toothbrush Family was one of the animated segments seen on Captain Kangaroo along with Captain Nemo, Slim Goodbody, and Picture Pages with Bill Cosby. Ah. I miss my childhood.

  • A small soft toothbrush

    The round and round way

    Will keep your gums healthy

    And stop tooth decay

    And watching this cartoon

    Will make your kids gay

    Go round and round...

  • Don't think twice baby it's alright...

  • MY GOD!!! This brings me back. I found this by accident and I'm so happy I did. The hot-rod player toothbrush - priceless. The 70s and 80s had the best cartoons.

  • I just thought of this show for the first time in over 25 years - I've never seen it it colour before! Thanks =)

  • Suzy Sponge was a whiny old BITCH!!!!

  • I can still recite every word of the opening!

  • Does anyone else hear Rudolph's voice when the green tooth brush talks? Like the classic Rankin Bass version? oh wait lol! Someone already posted that!

  • Does anyone else hear Rudolph's voice when the green tooth brush talks? Like the classic Rankin Bass version?

  • watched this in the morning before school. thats what i remember and the song.

  • I remember watching this as a kid, good times! Thanks for posting!

  • I remember that show! Thanks for posting this!

  • Gee, little Toby sounds a lot like Rudolph from Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer @ 1:53....

  • @jktosh It could very well be, you never know.

  • @jktosh Yes, it's the very same person who voiced Rudolph, Billy Mae Dinsmore (better known by the last name Richards). Sadly, this lady recently passed away back in the spring or summer earlier this year. She was a Canadian too.

  • @redonejs53 I'm 99% certain the narrator at the beginning is also Ms. Richards. Listen closely. :)

  • @jktosh it is

  • Do the toothbrush family have to brush their teeth with little toothbrushes of their own that come to life after they sing the toothbrush song.

  • Good God that song was annoying!

  • Oh, yeay, Commander Tom Show!

  • What the hell did I just watch? My eyes!

  • @crescentrolls90 Robert Stack will have to answer that question on the next Unsolved Mysteries.

  • 2:48 "gives me a big pain in the middle" ... a result of absorbing toxic Fluoride!

  • i love this

  • wtf! I was born in the 80s yet somehow I remember this

  • @Junyar yes it was aired in the 80's even though i was born in mid 70's but remember this in 80's in the morning before school.

  • They had electric toothbrushes in the 70's?

    Shows how much I know.

  • I was always a bit weirded out watching Toothbrush Family. It always felt surreal to me, and not because of all the walking talking bathroom characters. It had great voice talent, though.

  • Makes me a bit sad, seeing this again, since I only found out the other day, that Billie Mae Richards died. I remember Rudolph and Bright-Heart Raccoon, both voiced by her. A small part of my childhood went, when she passed. : (

  • @babygiraffe123 I'm really sorry to hear that. She will always be remembered.

  • this is why you need to change your tooth brush every 6 months , or they'll come to life at night.

  • I remember this cartoon. It was alright, but that "Toothbrush Song" got very annoying, being they sung that every single episode.

  • Thumbs up if you sing this song regularly...

  • Well when know where Tammy Tampon might be!

  • What about Tammy Tampon?

  • Wow...I'd forgot this had even existed. After watching it, I know why I've suppressed it.

  • why does one person have 40 toothbrushes?

  • @squigglewacks they suffer from paranoia and need lots of spare everythings or they won't be able to stop worrying about losing stuff

  • I have always remembered the tooth brush song. I thought the clips were on Captain Kangaroo, is that right?

  • @ilovecarltonhumble That's right

  • I remember watching this when I was a child

  • I remember the dentist used to hand out toothbrush family comic books when I was a kid.

  • Suzie Sponge looks obese.

  • O____o;

  • Nice !!

  • Thank god for youtube. I love all these old clips.

  • Where's Freddy Floss? He would have been a addition to this little gang.

  • At 43, it sounds like Rudolph!

  • @JoJobabylove12

That's because it was Billie Mae Richards, the voice of Rudolph.

  • 1:25 take a good hard look at this picture.

    what were those hippies on?

  • OMG first time I looked and FOUND this.. THANK YOUUUUUUU!

  • sweeeeeeeeet

  • yeah!

  • HOLLY COW!!!!

i remember hating these things, but was always compelled to watch it.

  • oh wow i rember this

  • Flashback!

  • OMG!!! I was looking for clips of this show for forever!!! Thanks soo much for sharing!!

  • I thought I was the only one that remembered the Toothbrush Family!

  • I watched it on Global too! Thanks for posting, now I can show my wife what I was talking about!

  • ...round and round...YEAH!...round and round.

  • i love all little warped cartoons like this their little lost treasures.

  • I haven't seen this is probably 30 years. Wow.

I was beginning to think it was just some made up childhood memory.

  • My God the memories !!!!!

    I feel like a kid again .

    Cb1

  • OMFG I remember watching this about 30 minutes before I left for school every morning, on Global Toronto. Awesome flashback, thanks!

  • WOW...a blast from the past... I liked a lot of the shorts on Captain Kangaroo..

  • Comment removed

  • God bless Captain Kangaroo. I loved this ..

  • i love this show...wow

  • Hot Rod Harry is a rather impractical electric toothbrush. He looks like a dildo with a wig and wheels.

  • @Matrix29bear I think the "toothbrush" aspect is just a facade. He's probably a vibrator in disguise. :)

  • I HAVE LOOKED EVERYWHERE FOR THIS! Thank you thank you thank you,

  • Wow I always hated this show. lol

  • I remember how much I didn't like this show. This was the show that came on IN BETWEEN THE GOOD CARTOONS. It used to air on Global in the 80s (Toronto area)

I was thinking about this show a few days ago. But it's cool to kinda see it on youtube.

  • In the 1990's, did Cinar (now Cookie Jar) make their own version of The Toothbrush Family called the Babaloos?

  • I remember seeing this late 1970's-early 1980's in the USA on Captain Kangaroo and I saw the shorts again in August 1988 following "My Little Pony and Friends" on Global when I was on vacation in Toronto, Canada at the time.

This is by the same animation studio (Rainbow Animation) that also did "The Undersea Adventures of Captain Nemo" (which also featured the voices of Len Carlson and Billie Richards).

  • I wonder if the 1970's Toothbrush Family shorts were even aired in the mid-late 1980's on the American cable channel USA Network kid aimed short film show called "Calliope".

Besides Captain Nemo and Toothbrush Family, the Captain Kangaroo show also aired the cartoon shorts of: Tom Terrific, Lariat Sam, Pow Wow, Ludwig, Simon in the Land of Chalk Drawings, The Red and the Blue, Most Important Person, and Kingdom of Could Be You.

  • "Brush your teeth. Round & round..."

  • I've been looking all over for videos like this one! Thanks so very much!

  • sadly I still sing this song in my head when I brush my teeth and I am 39.HA

  • HELL YES!!!!

  • I have been searching for this for years. Epic find.

  • Oh snap....I remember these guys.

  • Omg my bf I were brushing our teeth the other night when I turned to him and said do you remember the toothbrush song? Lmao. I can't wait to show him this when he gets home.

  • Ive been having problems getting my kids to brush properly and always remembered this song. Thanks for posting so I could share it with them. Ahhh the memories!

  • amazing post. I hum the tooth brushing song to this day.. and I am 31.

  • I wonder if Family Guy would ever make fun of the 1970's Toothbrush Family "Toothbrush song" sung to the tune of "Three Blind Mice"? Heck, it would be perfect for Stewie to sing as he learns how to brush his teeth by himself!

  • It's really disturbing if you think of your own toothbrushes doing this while you sleep.

I swear I used to have nightmares.

  • This is cool. I've been looking for this for a long time.

  • I gotta stop watching your videos...it's reminding me that I'm getting old. :)

Just kidding. I love the stuff you put up here.

  • Thanks so much for posting this. Tried to find this online some time ago but the only ones available was the revamped version. I used to love watching this growing up.

  • Does anyone else remember the episode where Suzy Sponge tried to commit suicide?

  • I think I remember seeing in this in the very late 1980s or 1990...doesn't stick out for me like Picture Pages though.

  • I haven't seen this in YEARS! Watching it on Global TV in the mornings when I was a kid. Great memories!! In fact, I can even remember the end of the song in the closing credits, EXACTLY when it cut to the Global TV ident. It's been stuck in my head FOREVER. : )

  • Wasn't this also shown on "Captain Kangaroo" in the '70s? That's where I seem to recall seeing this as a kid.

  • Stupid me - I should really read the description before posting.

    Thanks for sharing this gem!

  • Thank You! I've been looking for this!

  • Classic! Thanks for the memories, any more? :D

  • Whoa . . . major nostalgia overload . . .. used to watch this all the time and haven't seen it in 20 years but NEVER ever forgot the words to the toothbrush song at the end!!! Who could? Thanks for uploading . . .

And ummm, is the voice for Toby (the green toothbrush) the same voice who did Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer (the "claymation-type" video with Sam the snowman)? Sure sounds like him!!!!

  • Hi Nevmiles. The voice of Toby Toothbrush is none other than Billie Mae Richards. She's voiced Tenderheart from Care Bears, Rudolph and so many others. She'sbeen acting in Canadian theatre since at least the 1950's with other greats like Don Harron and Mavor Moore.

Her co-worker is Len Carlson who has viced Beetlejuice, The Waterville Gang and well known as Bert Racoon from The Racoons.

Both of these actors I hold much respect for.

  • Thanks . . . I KNEW it had to be the same actor who performed Rudolph . . .she has such a distinctive voice, and it's hard for me not to recognize her voice, as Rudolph has been one of the Christmas shows I have watched every year since I was a kid...

  • RIP Len Carlson

  • Looks like a real international effort. The animators and voice cast are Canadians... but the company in the copyright is Australian (pty.) and it bears the seal of the American Dental Association.

  • wholy fuck....

  • Don't forget about YTV too...

  • @RetroWinnipeg And TVOntario. :)

  • i actually thought i imagined this clip. thought it was a shorter comercial but i guess not. keep it up buddy
