@eIectrostatic Actually Judaism has very in-depth theology too and Christianity itself has very meticulous beliefs (Communion, Refrain from engaging in marital activities for reasons other than procreation, eating fish on Fridays) Yes some of those are Catholic, but not all Jews are the same, just like Christianity there are Orthodox like Catholics, and very liberal (Reform Judaism) like Unitarians. In fact a lot of St. Thomas Aquainis's work was influenced by Maimonides.

@ZviJ1 I took a religion course covering Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism. Judaism and Islam both mention Jesus as a prophet but not as the Messiah. He certainly didn't fit in with the Jewish high priests or local Roman governor, he was too subversive for them.

To be frank, I never encountered any religious fundamentalism in any school I intended (visitors on the other hand), a lot of my classmates came from various ethnicities or nationalities but I can only remember those who talked about their own backgrounds the most.

@ulongkoror Actually, monotheistic religions do not believe that God resides in the sky or anywhere in nature, that notion would be closer to pantheism (God is everywhere in nature) or paganism (many gods who all reside in this world). OTOH, I do think it's ridiculous to think that God would care how we wipe our asses like Muslims think or which days in the week we work like Jews think. Christian theology is far deeper than that and limits God's role to that of human sin and morality...

However, if you read the likes of St. Augustine and Thomas Aquinas you can at least appreciate the philosophical depth that has evolved in Christianity which is leaps and bounds above any other religion. The fact that this philosophical depth by all likelyhood evolved out of an event in history that was an entirely human construct (like all other religious claims), doesn't make it any less profound IMHO...

@eIectrostatic Actually Judaism has very in-depth theology too and Christianity itself has very meticulous beliefs (Communion, Refrain from engaging in marital activities for reasons other than procreation, eating fish on Fridays) Yes some of those are Catholic, but not all Jews are the same, just like Christianity there are Orthodox like Catholics, and very liberal (Reform Judaism) like Unitarians. In fact a lot of St. Thomas Aquainis's work was influenced by Maimonides.

Israel is a source of annoying and trouble to US, it costs a lot in political capital its support, specially when taking into consideration that muslim demographic expansion within Germany, France and UK, much more important allies than Israel, will change the balance of ideological power in democratic world. What do you reckon might happen? US stops supporting Israel to retain the support of europeans, or give up the last in favor of the first?
