My mom and step dad have a retired racing greyhound. He is the biggest couch potato and has the smelliest farts....I could never imagine him as a racing dog after getting to know the goof ball that he is. :)

@0ricds303 if they do not do well in races the usally put them down or break there legs so they can not run sometimes the cut off there ears so no one can idenfiy them cause in there ears the have there date of birth a like ceral number and a,b,c,d or e depending on what number they were in the liter hoped that helped i also have two greyhounds six and thirteen!

Siberian huskies and malamutes can only run 25 (their top speed is 30,) they can go for about a half of and hour. but i think where both right! i just added true details! :)

If a Greyhound is too big for you, just get an Italian Greyhound. They're basically the same dog but a fraction of the size. I have one, they're great dogs

My dad had a greyhound for about two years and he tried training her for racing but she just ended up being a pet... And because she was so docile and easy going, we had to give her to a greyhound adoption group thing cause she was making our $1200 troublesome Labrador jealous, and we got her for free from our cousin in queensland who is a trainer! She did find a brilliant home though (in an interesting turn of events, I actually now live across the road from her new owners at my mums house!)

I really don't understand why people are arguing over Greyhounds and Whippets I mean they are both very amazing breeds and to say "I hate whippets" is basically saying you hate greyhounds because there is scientififc proof of them being the exsact same only differences being

1. The whippet can not reach the complete speed of a greyhound

2. They whippet is smaller.

I also have 3 cats so, that was even harder. I couldn't even find a greyhound! but someone was getting rid of their dog at 2 years of age! and i manged to get him :) River doesn't really know sit, but he lies down when he wants smoething. But Jack sits when he wants something. :)

@wolfbane155 Really? Cool! I have 2 at the moment. River is 2 and a half, He's a really lovely fawn colour. Jack I only got recently and is only 9 weeks. Even though he has some Lurcher in him. His fur isn't quite as nice, and he's a darker fawn colour. I just love them! Jack still hasn't got the idea of not barking. But I'm working on it :) Whats your Whippet like? I just LOVE whippets

@MusicToYourComputer Mine is called Rain or 'Rain Cloud' as we like to say lol. She's about 3 years and is pure white. She loves hogging the couch, catching food in midair, and taunting the dogs at the park with her high speeds (they usually just give up haha). Rain was a rescue actually, from a breeder who had too many. I recently taught her to sit, now she uses it whenever she reaally wants something XD

Our greyhound (Ransom) was a racer. He sucked, but we rescued him and brought him into our home. He was one of the most loving and playful, happy creatures I had the honor of interacting with and loving. Unfortunately, he died this past May, and I do miss him. Seeing this video urged me to write a comment about these great dogs. He was very lazy, but loved walks and would stretch out him racing legs at the dog park or in the backyard. Seeing him attempt full speed was a beautiful sight.

@roogirl1824 You should definitaly seek advice from the rehoming centre, since they do individual testing etc :p Some people have had success in keeping a greyhound and a cat together, but to be quite frank I wouldn't trust mine off leash around a cat, since that has ended very badly in the past....
