I'm not sure actually. I looked frame by frame at the original high quality 60fps recording, and his shield had pretty much full coverage on that whole area, and was up the entire time until he gets hit. So either there was like an absolutely perfect shield stab on the very edge of a toe or he happened to let go of shield (with a roll, sidestep, or jump) on the exact same frame the attack came out.

Nah, Ganon's u-tilt doesn't hit until his foot comes down all the way and makes a little explosion along the ground.
