Great vid I've just returned from Los roques hooked a huge tarpon there had it on for 4 hours ran out of light and lost it under the boat it jumped 3 times estimated at 2metre long 70 kilo plus never felt power like it
why would u take samples? the fish is the most famous fighter and lived for over 100,000 million years these are the fish i practice with to fight big tuna i love it
The fishing area is in a narrow pass easily accessible from a nearby public boat launch . On a calm day a bass boat is excellent. Stop and buy some live crabs. Get a big circle hook and make casts in front of the passing pods of Tarpon.
Why is there so much anger on these comments? Does anyone actually believe that they either know more about these fish than this professional charter, or believe that he will quit his trade because you are just being a pussy. Nice video man, makes me miss home, Charlotte county native. Deployed in the desert
i have done some tarpon fishing but never like this. these guys know what they are doing when it comes to finding these fish. im glad to see they are catching tarpon and not something edible that will be coming in on the end of my line =p.
I HAVE NOT BEEN TARPON FISHING BUT AT THE GASPERILLA INN IN BOCA GRANDE WHERE I HAVE STAYED I HAVE SAT IN THE LOUNGE AT XMAS TIME AND THE BIG TABLES THERE HAVE LARGE TARPON SCALES UNDER GLASS! I THE INN IS AN OLD RESORT HOTEL ON THE ISLAND AND HAS A FUNKY BUT GORGEOUS "OLD FLORIDA" STYLE ATMOSPHERE THE DINING IS OUTSTANDING-- 5 STAR!! I WAS TOLD THAT BOCA HAS THE DEEPEST TARPON FISHING HOLES IN THE US.
that first tarpon in the video, real nice work on bowing down when he jumped..i'd say that fish was a good 100-120 lbs..for me the hardest part of fighting the big tarpon (100 lbs and up) is remembering to do that when they jump, you have to time it, almost anticipate it..these things can dart all over the place at over 30 mph..i'm never worried about getting spooled, i keep about 400 yards of 30 lb test..thats light for a main line but there's alot of line capacity for him to run and tire out
but i got a few yards of 50 lb, a few yards of 100 lb, and about 8 ft of 200 lb test as leader, when they run straight out their tail smacks the leader and they can break you off like that, and numerous other ways as well..even their scales can cause line to have abraisions
Yeah that was real nice work your chode probably weighs 100-120 pounds your chode darts all over the place i would use a size 7 condom it gives you enough room to tire out
lets just say I wasn't old enough to drink..you're talking down on me as if i'm the loser who goes on youtube..how old are you buddy like 50? get a life..haven't you got better shit to do than run your mouth off to people half your age? trust me doushe bag, i may be quite a bit younger than you but i've caught more tarpon in my life than you've caught fish, TRUST ME
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
okay number one im 13 number two ur probably sitting on some couch like some fat ass 30 year old that is still a virgin and number 3 i couldent give a rats ass about how many fish you catch TRUST ME
no i'm not that old, but still old enough to get into your mothers panties and start a small fire..by the way, it looks like your 28 according to your profile, you're quite a bit older than i am buddy..i see you are a canuck as well..your stupid beady eye moose fucking, maple syrup drinking, hockey playing "youe toob" surfing ass hasn't even been within 1,000 miles of a tarpon let alone caught one..let me guess, you catch them while ice fishing in your igloo eh? go build a snowman eh, pussy boy.
Met a guy recently who caught a tarpon off Gambia. About 8' - 9 ' long but said they were known for coming straight at the boat when hooked. The tarpon cleared the side of the boat, went through the wheelhouse and became lodged.Took out the steering and radio. They had to put up flares to get towed back in. Some fish !!!!
i fish the professional tarpon tournament series in boca grande and that is definiteley not the boca grande pass it is completley full of boats unless you are away from the pack
i had that happen to me at the skyway pier in st pete last week. had a tarpon hit a jumbo shrimp as i was fishing for snapper. got spooled in like 30 seconds, there was nothing i could do.

live down in the fl keys... big tarpon like that are starting to migrate through here too this time of year (spring)... you know, you should have gotten the fly rod out that day, instead of those heavy spinning outfits... also, it's much more of a challenge trying to get them to hit on a fly instead of live blue crabs... but all in all, you gave a lot of people out there that never experienced fishing like this some really nice footage to look at... great video.
I fishing from a dock in Marathon, FL tonight with about 7 feet of line out with my spinner picking them off one by one. I was using some Storm Wildeye Jerkin' Minnow running my rod with the others minnows in the harbor. It was incredible! This was also in the first hour with no wind in two weeks down here. The fish were going wild. Seems they were pleased the wind had "laid down" as we say down here.
Nice. I fish at the tarpon roundup at St.petersburg fl and last year i caught a 153 pound tarpon. man that fish got me so tired and my back hurt for the rest of the day
What time of the year was this? Im making a trip to Tampa In May but our guide is telling us that making them bite is tough because they are spawning.
I hooked one fishing off the dock in the backyard in Marco Island, FLA and it was sick how much it jumped. it was smaller than that one tho. i know they get much bigger as well.
Good day smirko,Tarpon is an well known fish that jump a lot during the fight, and yes i agree the line tightening part you had mentioned but not all kind of fishes you could make e fish jump like this. EG: snappers, groupers etc... all those down under fishes :x. btw nice video haroldtampa how i wish we had the size tarpon in sg
they are forcing them to jump by pulling the line so hard, looks spectaculaire but if they want to realize them its not a good method to catch fish.... you can force almost any fish race to jump like this :>
im goin down to naples in a couple of weeks and was considering making a trip up to boca grande for tarpon but since i heard the tarpon season ends in june and its late july i was wondering if it is worth it..or am i better off fishing somewhere else for something else?
To Tibby: "poor fish, tries to jump many times just to escape" I hope you don't eat meat because pigs and cows go through a lot more than this. Just eat carrots and you might not hurt any animal.
yup, sometimes pigs and cows are cut up while they are still alive, and most biologists cant agree if fish have that many nerves in their mouth, which means they may not feel that much pain.
my uncle found a bunch, all at least 95 lbs. He said it took him at least 15 minutes for each, and he couldnt move his shoulders and arms for the rest of the day. wish i was there
you wanna use crabs, threadfins, and white bait during the day and at night it maders if its a hill tide but you can use pin fish. phill dugger the captain in this vid is a freind we charter down in boca grand.
Hi hope tarpon trip went well . I caught a 120lb tarpon in key west two weeks ago whilst on holiday. We used live pin fish best dusk and after dark. Took 35 minutes to win the fight.
Great vid I've just returned from Los roques hooked a huge tarpon there had it on for 4 hours ran out of light and lost it under the boat it jumped 3 times estimated at 2metre long 70 kilo plus never felt power like it

Hi hope tarpon trip went well . I caught a 120lb tarpon in key west two weeks ago whilst on holiday. We used live pin fish best dusk and after dark. Took 35 minutes to win the fight.
Cheers Paul
