I think Dhoni doesnt play those big shots anymore due to 2 reasons:

- he is a mature cricketer and when he has come into bat india have been in a position where singles are needed

- he has back pain due to this massive swing and he needs to preserve his back if he wants to play for a long time

The correct reason is that he has become captain and he to win matches for the team, play for the team. With captaincy comes responsibility, and Dhoni knows that.
