Well, i'm mexican and i study antropology, it's been a long time since i live in France and i can say that mexican culture is so complexe and different to american culture, in mexico we have whites, blacks, native americans, mestizos, asian people, but, the difference is that people get to involved into mexican culture and we all feel part of the same culture, a country with lot of admixture, between spanish, italian french, german, portuguese, libanese, arabic and 62 different ethicities.

I know that the majority of Mexicans are mestizo (white mixed with native Indians), so using the word "Mexican" is used as a racial term. Even I use it like that most of the time. However, it is technically incorrect because as I said earlier, Mexico is a country, not a race. The actual word for a person of mixed white and Indian background is "mestizo". But again, not all Mexicans are mestizos. Most Bolivians look just like Mexicans because they are the same race; they're mestizos.
