We've got a big Maine Coon too. His name is Chase & he has a few videos here. I uploaded one to this page. I just weighed him the other day and he's 23.8 pounds of kitty. Big boy too!

Beautiful animal! We need higher kitchen counters as well, since our Great Dane Tonga is able to easily slobbering off any bread crumbs off the counter. And no use for her to play innocent, 'cause she leaves her traces everywhere... yukk. :)

Ha. I'm glad my kitchen counters are extra high and my Maine Coon is a crappy jumper. He is very good about getting on his hind legs and grabbing stuff. Combo of length + big paws = master grabber.

@wiebkefesch: Laolo was 25 lbs. when we got him. He'd never been allowed outside & could only sit & watch our other cats run up & down the crabapple tree, jump the picnic table, etc. Sad. After 2 or 3 weeks of being allowed to run & play in the yard, the day came when he took another run at the crabapple tree & made it up to the first branch! He had lost 3 lbs in 3 weeks, & now he could jump & climb too! He was a new cat! Grooming, talking, begging popcorn, & running up that tree every day! (:

I haven't measured it, but yes, it is waist height- the dishwasher is standard size.

Less than he should weigh...his last weigh-in was around 16 lbs, but I think he's gained some since then. Hopefully next weigh-in will be 18-20 lbs!!

Oh, such a beautiful cat. Few people can appreciate the beauty and warmth of such a feline. Maine Coons are my favorite breed.

I got him from AmKat cattery in Southern NJ, now moved to FL. They were adopting out an older 9 mo old litter that didn't sell, so I got him for free, although now he'll be on thyroid pills the rest of his life, plus expensive periodic bloodwork. Typically, MC kittens go for $600 - $800, but you can often get retired breeders for much less, and they are usually 5 yrs old or less.

I wish my Max was bigger- he has another year to grow, but unfortunately, he has hyperthyroid and is doing better on meds. He should be at least 20 lbs but seems to be holding at almost 16 and is scrawny beneath the fluff. He is a sweetheart though. I waited a LONG time to get a MC. My friend bred Bengals and Savavahs and at various times had Servals. Very cool but not a house pet- unless you want your house destroyed. Picture a medium-large dog that can jump 12 feet+....
