  • Annie is sooooo hot!!

  • Ima get a sandwich. This better be the top comment when I get bac

  • Great song, no matter who does it, who knew it would lead to The Eurythmics

  • I F*CKING LOVE THIS SONG, the dusty springfield original version, this version, the volbeat version, and I´m not even in love with anyone. LOOOL

  • Volbeat version is so much better

  • awkward.

  • It is so hard to cover a song done by someone as brilliant as Dusty Springfield. But Annie ( who is a big fan of Dusty) has done it perfectly. Don't know if Dusty ever heard it, but I'm sure she'd have approved.

  • annie who else

  • Saw these live as the back up to Roxy Music in the 70s'. My God they were brilliant.

  • i have this on vinyl §:-D

  • reminds me of Annie Lennox

  • @bubs101able That might be because it IS Annie Lennox. Try reading the video descriptions.

  • Makes me think of Thames tv

  • Because Thames ended with this song?

  • @Tripp1993 yep

  • What a mover..........

  • Is it just me or is it disturbing to watch Annie in bright purple, singing pop songs? Don't get me wrong, I love this... But it just seems totally opposite of how she potrayed herself, post The Tourists.

  • Great song. Too bad you can't get it anymore.

  • sweeeeet

  • Good ol Dave Stewart.. one of the best producers of the 80's.. feargal sharkey's debut and daryl hall's three hearts in the happy ending machine are perfect

  • I only want Nosferatu.

  • Volbeat's version is SHIT compared to this....this could easily be released today :)

  • HELLO? Are we forgetting the Bay City Rollers did the most A-M-A-Z-I-N-G cover of this? Y'all are crazy if you think Dusty or Annie did this better. Yeah, yeah. I am messing with you all. In all seriousness it's not a bad cover...Just not right for those boys

Search Youtube for it if the link below doesn't work

  • I would say The Tourist version for obvious reasons, aha, neither of the 2 are that bad,but there's something about this one, can't quite pin point the reason only that i like it,lol!! :)

  • i can't decide which version I like better: The Tourists or THe Bay City Rollers.......let's take a vote, shall we??

  • @MegaGeneral23 - nah, Dusty Springfield was better :)

  • @MegaGeneral23 How about Dustys version, gets my vote every time

  • I hate how its short :/

  • Amazing cover of a classic song!

  • reminds me of when we were rockers, great days

  • That is the scariest shit I have ever seen...

  • Fabulous: one of the best pop singles EVER!

  • Volbeat's version i MUCH better!

  • and it was i great single 45 in pink if i belive

  • wow yall tripen

  • Annie rocks!! Dave plays for wild behind his guitar!!! -Together they are The Part Of Rock N Roll!! XD

  • i love Annie

  • oh yeah ...

  • I love how there are so many versions of this song and they're all so different!

  • new wave post punk rock awesome

  • Check out VOLBEAT's version of this song. Both are great!

  • Am only posting this message cos I looked this up on YouTube tonight as I was sorting through the loft earlier and found the 7" single of this I bought all those years ago (damn, it was long ago... 32 years ago, I was 10!). Turntable is fooked so thought I'd check it out on here. haven't heard this 20+ years. hasn't faded, still a great tune!

  • I love seeing the evolution of Annie's performance as an artist

  • Comment removed

  • One of the first singles I ever bought way back in 79 (still got it to this day). Takes me back to happy times and my youth. Thanks for posting this video... excellent... :)

  • The record I ever liked! Amazing!!!

  • Brilliant!

  • volbeat version is better i think

  • What a superb blast from the past. Takes me back to being a teenager lol

  • Annie Lennox absoulutley kicked this song's ass.

Much better than The Gay City Rollers.

  • third rate compared to dusty's vocal - but still pretty good. much better than later girlband crap.

  • I love this version.

  • volbeat's male singer version of this is ok, but this seems to be a lot better with ladies who can really sing

    -Dusty and Annie

  • Sneaked back stage at Wakefield unity hall, Annie just sat starring into the mirror ( not so happy !! ) the promo photo got passed along the line, Annie drew an arrow through her head !! put 'ouch' then signed it, spoke to Dave and Peet about guitar strings even though I could hardly make one chord !! got outside and it was raining !! smudged a bit !! Bo**ocks !! anyway still got it !! plus I still got the letter Annie wrote to me when the Eurythmics first started !!

  • They did this on Top Of The Pops where Annie was dressed like Bet Lynch off Coronation St. Shame it's not on here...

  • I think Dusty Spingfield would have approved of this brilliant and discreet repro. of her original

-thx for brilliant song-only Annie could have done it so well-exquisite voice

  • @darkmossie633

Check out Volbeat's remake and tell me if you think Dusty would be impressed!

  • @twinkie57401 The Volbeats version, is at LEAST ONE TEMPO too fast, and just loses quality as it goes on

-just forced, not natural, like Dusty and Annie's version

  • @darkmossie633 So do I fast class pure 1960s

  • @burnley5960 thx, i said "discreet" in Annie Lennox version of great Dusty Sprinfield record, because Annie treats Dusty's original with total respect-a lot of covers of old classics are well over the top, and usually fall

well short of the original quality because of this

    -Annie Lennox is pure CLASS

  • Annie and dave, so so good. is sort of music will ever make a come back.

  • This was one of the first records I ever bought ! i was about 10 or 11 years old , my mum broke it by accident when she was polishing and tidying up the house ! .................. it took me ages for me to forgive her hahaha ! ! bless her the ol' girl x

  • Annie the Tourist doesn't look like Annie the Eurythmic (except maybe for the hair), but her singular voice was already there.

  • Did this actually make the charts in the US? I know I heard it on the radio a couple of times. Back then I only knew the Bay City Rollers version, so this seemed very different.

  • Volbeat(a danish band) is so much better with this song!

  • Wonderful song !!

  • RIP Peet Coombes thanks for the time we spent together in the last year of your life

Peet so neat hid in bet,sat unique lest he play to the street undercover!

  • The Tourists the only time Stuart leaving boring previous rock bands & Lennox pre mega boring diva status were half way decent.

  • Eventually remembered the first time I heard Annie sing - must've been 'Top of the Pops'; a legend in my lifetime - Annie, you're amazing.

  • So much better than that Eurythmics crap.

  • @LegendofJune1980 You don't know what you're talking about.

  • I love Annies look ;)) totally 80s she is a real Diva ;P hahaa

  • chick i'd switch for.

  • The video is very Eighties, even though it's from 1979!

  • @TheEqualyzr The 80's started in 1979 in my opinion anyway so many good tunes in 1979.

  • que graaande!

  • Thats one ugly boy.

  • COOOOLLLL!!!! I know that is existing another version from Samantha Fox too, but I am extremely excited of this too!!!!! <3 <3 <3 <3

  • I fell in love with Annie the instant I heard this brilliant cover back in the day. As much as I adore Dusty Springfield, Annie is the fucking bomb!

  • @problem49 You know it man! I heard this when it first came out too and then The Tourists broke up when they were touring Australia, thought I'd never see the lovely and classy Annie again (boo hoo), how wrong I was, luckily!

  • LOVE MS LENNOX!!!!! AWESOME !!!!

  • this song is on at the end of the thames television idents video.

  • They played our Hall Ball in Sheffield the week this went to #1 on the UK charts - and then went off to be the Eurythmics !! Great stuff ...

  • I've always wondered, and I think this video shows it clearly, the "crazy lady" Annie Lennox portrayed in 1987 must have been based on "Ria" from "Butterflies" (the TV show).

  • @shmuli9 yeah... see what you mean..lol

  • @shmuli9 Was that Wendy James?

  • @groverjuicy Yes! :-)

  • wow thanks to 1ST wave 22 Sirius radio i would have never heard this..... awesome!

  • For those Gen Y and Gen Z that want to bag this - it's the Eurythmics before they became the Eurythmics. Dave Stewart and Annie Lennox. That's why the clip has a punk edge. You can bag them all you like but the Eurythmics are certified international superstars.

  • 30 dudes dont want to be with you

  • I don't know why this song has never been a Number One hit for anyone - this is one of the greatest 60's songs ever written.

  • lol great song but check out 1:47 it scares me

  • dusty springfield sounded better

  • watching volbeat cover this tune was like watching Metallica in miniskirts .... some groups should not cover certain tunes ....... this song is better suited for the ladies to sing.

  • The only way to ruin this tune, would be a rap version.

  • Volbeat did a better job! :)))

  • Nobody sings it like Sam Fox.

  • Annie and Dave, everything they touch is gold

  • Energy, pure class and nostalgia

  • OMG.. I still have the 45 rpm of this song. It was a song I loved to begin with and they did a real good version of it. LOVE Annie !! :) ;)

  • @cboncklis Me too-this was my first 7inch record i got - when i was 4 years old lol. Still got it - also have So Good to be back home again!

  • You stopped You smiled at me And asked If I'd care to dance I fell Into your open arms I didn't stand a chance Now listen honey I just wanna be Beside you everywhere As long As we're together Honey I don't care 'Cos you started something Now can't you see That ever since we've met You've had a hold on me No matter what you do I only wanna be with you

  • Every now and then i hear a song from way back then look it up on you tube....guess what this is brilliant !!! sounds as good as when i first heard it Annie Lennox had a great voice then and sounds just as good today......Love it.

  • the video looks 90ish

  • 0:38 That was Annie Lennox 30 YEARS AGO! Who knew that 30 years after THAT music video was made, Annie Lennox would be a superstar, singer, and UNESCO goodwill ambassador for AIDS?

  • come on the rockers

  • way before the EURYTHMICS!!! still as good as to this day!!

  • Wow... :3

  • Por qué algunos grupos se empeñan en destrozar canciones?

  • gaga wannabe

  • @The3rdHiltonSister

    the other way around, hon.

  • It's incredible that Dusty's, The Bay City Rollers and this version all made No.4 in the charts. Thats until Sam Fox's version spoiled the run!!!

  • spanish version suck ''Ahora te puedes marchar''

  • @831AreaCode nah spanish version its ok...

  • Fantastic!!!. Takes me back.

  • @ianderekwatson ditto great stuff

  • I LOVE THIS! I LOVE THIS! Thank you!!!

  • bad cover on volbeat... :3

  • Annie Lennox og Dave Stewart fra før de kaldte sig Eurythmics :o)

  • Saw the Tourists at Leeds Uni in '81 - Annie was hot in a black leather miniskirt, particularly as I was in the front row!

  • @da1961ja omfg i was at that gig too :)

  • I've only seen this video once lo all those many years ago. It was on a late night video show. I always thought the singer was Annie Lenox. The 80's were coming on and I thought this was a very strange video and a very strange cover of the song.

  • oh my childhood come flooding back

  • Wonderful!

  • this song is awesome..!!!

  • I haven't heard every version of this song, but I don't think anybody ever topped Dusty Springfield...

  • ahhh i love being reminded that im the last of the old school.....rock on real music!!!!!!

  • Thanks for giving the opportunity to relive some golden moments, forgotten by any reccord dealer left in this godforsaken country (0:

  • this is shit compared to the version made by volbeat

  • the best partnership known to man

  • @deathtoleftys My same thoughts!

  • I ever hear this song by this obscure band The Tourists because a copilation of 1980 call Excelsior Radio Hits who also included "The Haevy People" by Kate Bush. I have nine years old at the time. I never realize that are Annie Lenox singing and Dave Stewart playing this hit song. Amazing, Is stucking in my ears untill today. Is impossible to forget..

  • Wow! Never seen Annie Lennox in video like this before!

it's awesome to see her and Dave Stewart in the white room and digital film!

  • why coundnlt it be 4mins

  • whos actully the original singer to this

  • Annie Lennox??:D

  • Good to listen and watch one of Annie's first songs. :-)

  • The Classics are always the BEST

  • It charted in 1979. Do I get half of the the winnings?

  • It actually entered the billboard hot 100 on May 17, 1980 at #87. It peaked at #83 on May 31, 1980 and was out by mid June.

  • can some one please tell me when annie first brought this out

    10p bet

    thanks

  • awesome

  • Thank you, Rareclipz, for this wonderful treatment of the Dusty Springfield classic as done by her successor, Annie Lennox & her then gig, The Tourists. A gem ~ (•8-D

  • Loved this song when done by Dusty Springfield. This arrangement works really well. Thanks for posting it.

  • awesome, she is beautifugly

  • lol nice coment

  • lovely, used to play it over & over on my compact casette recorder when i was a teen, recorded from the radio i suppose, sometimes around -79?, never seen the video before thanks for posting this:)

  • I thought this was by the danish band Volbeat. It's the only song I like with them.

  • my fav part is at 1:07, "now listen honey", awesome song!

  • i prefer the version of volbeat, but this one is also ok

  • one of my favourite songs of all time.

    this is the best version

  • Annie is fantastic in this video

    Great legs

  • this is the version I prefer, for affinity with the kind of music, and overall because I'm in love with the singerin....

  • best song she ever did -wasn't really into the newer stuff

  • love this song, i don't care who's singing it

  • oh Annie, you've come so far darling!!

  • no the version of dusty springfield is much better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • was this time when anne lennox was a mod ,,,do not care realy love this track not played like it should be

  • this song is brilliant ! wether it's performed by dusty springfield, the tourists or the bay city rollers,i just think it's one of the best songs i've ever heard.and all three versions are great :)

  • But, hey, agiutza, you didn´t said nothing about the Samanta Fox one......

  • i didn't know there was a samantha fox version, but i'll be sure to check it out :)

  • @agiutza I agree with you 100%. This song is BRILLIANT !!! The perfect arrangements in any tune I've heard. I've heard 5 versions ..... Dusty's, Samantha Fox, Tourists, Bay City Rollers, and Volbeat .... Dusty= brilliant, Sam= very cool, Tourists= extremely cool, Volbeat = OMG NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

  • @agiutza If I had to pick one version it would have to be The Tourists. I just love that punk type sound.

  • @agiutza It happens to be true

  • yep, i agree.

  • yup!

  • The best cover of this song

  • For the good songs that the Tourists had it's a shame they didn't get very as big as they should've before Dave and Annie left.

  • loved annie in the tourists..this song came out at the same time as the re-birth of the mods and my scooter club strongly identified with annies reproduction of the sixties sound... great carefree days

  • Comment removed

  • Today i learn much about music thanks to this kind of songs....XD

  • I bought this LP in 1981 (?) because I loved this cover version. 28 years later still a huge fan...

  • hi ,iv got the singles, lps . she is still brillant !

  • Men, this is a gem. Annie, the lovely's woman I've ever seen. Great cover! Thanks for the video!
