you know, as much as the Beatles are a part of me... as I learn more of the post break up Discography I find I really enjoy the vocal harmonies of Wings. Paul, Denny and Linda really captured something
@CarlBewley im just a huge McCartney fan,i particularly love this period of his career, the 70s,was a great time for him, older, wiser, happily married, more relaxed etc.I also like the type of rock star he was,i think he's a great role model for all rock stars.work hard, love your wife, dont overdo anything etc..
@onlyjoetee - Was always more of a Lennon man myself although I do recognise that the Beatles would not be what they are without Paul (or George or RIngo come to that) Lennon and McCartney brought the best out of each other I think. Definitely think Pauls musical talent gave John a kick in the pants to push himself harder and produce better songs.
@CarlBewley Paul is more personable,i would rather had spent an evening with Paul and Linda than John and Yoko. For all his peace talk,Lennon was a mean nasty bully.Paul was way cooler,i prefer his songs too,i like his solo stuff more than the Beatles.he's a more balanced person, more level headed,do you know what i mean?
@QueenBeatlesWings, Denny is friends with paul, i met Denny Laine not to long ago and we spoke about paul and he told me that about a month or two ago he and paul went to see a concert together. so obviously the past is behind them and they are friends now. he praises linda and paul up and down. He performed live and let die and dedicated it to paul and linda.
odd how Paul hates Denny and vice-versa now- Paul hates Denny for leaving the band Denny hates Paul cuz he's kinda jealous of Paul's fame and how he handled it and also how little credit and money Paul gave Laine and Wings yet Denny Laine stayed til' the ned (Paul's drug bust) unlike all the other band memebrs
To guy that said about the right handed guitar Paul uses: he learnt to play on a right handed because back then there were very few lefty guitars. I'm naturally a lefty yet I learnt on a right handed and to this day I still cannot play a left handed guitar at all.
This was the first time I saw the song performed and I could not stop the tears from rolling down my cheeks. Litle did I know, that this song was to have so much significance in my life and my words here simply cannot express my gratitude.
Beautiful song. One question though. Paul McCartney is a gazillionaire. Why does he play a right handed guitar? Surely someone would make him one for a lefty to fit his needs. Maybe it's his preference to use a righty strung for a lefty. It's just strange because he doesn't do that for his basses.
Yeah, Sidebottom was a comedian. And it sounds like an old Scottish folk song, but thats just the genius of Paul McCartney at work :) A quick Wiki search clears that up.
No, it was originally called "Mull of Timperley" and was sung by Frank Sidebottom. McCartney's cover version isn't bad, but nowhere near as good as the original.
@ifonlyeah - whichever came first, the consensus amongst rock music historians is that Frank Sidebottom's version is by far the best. Which is why Sidebottom has appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone a record twelve times, and McCartney has only appeared twice.
Funny, I don't see Ringo in this video. Is he one of the bagpipers? Or is that him in a blonde wig in the middle? Certainly the nose looks like it could be his.
As a proud Ulster-Scot who grew up 15miles across the water from Kintyre, this is one of the greatest songs ever. Yes it is cheesey butn there is genius in there. Reminds me of Xmas day 1977 when my late Grandmother played the 7" single over and over and over again in Portrush. Priceless memories, thanks for posting.
In my opinion Paul McCartney was a milkface without angles and edges. I never understood the predilection of the girls for him. But this song is overwhelming beautiful.
It's 'Wings', not 'the Wings'

This is a total ripoff of "Mull of Timperley" by Frank Sidebottom (probably also somewhere on YouTube), which is a MUCH better song....
