When you first make the new image, go to Image>Mode>Grayscale and then make your brush. When you save it as a .gbr, it should allow you to change the color :)
Scan lines are often used in modern digital art and aren't very useful when using Gimp to do something like a simple photo retouch. Here's an example of scanlines in some modern art (add h t t p : / / to the beginning and replace all 'DOT's with a period):
Can you tell me how I can add it to a picture border so my pixels are even?

How do you get all of those brushes? Do they come with the GIMP you have?
RedLatias 2 years ago
You have to download them separately, and when looking for Gimp brushes online, remember to keep in mind that Photoshop brushes work for Gimp too ;)

Good question!
When you first make the new image, go to Image>Mode>Grayscale and then make your brush. When you save it as a .gbr, it should allow you to change the color :)
Hope this helps

This doesn't work for me :/ When I try to save it as .gbr it gives me an error that it was unable to save.

Scan lines are also commonly used on 'userbars', small icons found in forums.
I hope this answers you question :)

I knew how to do this already but good tutorial, explains it well,
Another good way of doing scan lines are horizontally, it makes it look more like a TV screen,
Diagnol scan lines are more for making wallpapers look stylish etc,
Cheers for the tut and Merry Christmas, well it's not anymore but ah well
