Living close by to Stewart Int. I had always heard rumors of Kiss rehearsing there. I had a friend who was even fortunate enough to see them there. This confirms the rumor as true.
I've seen KISS on every tour from Asylum to the "Farewell" tour (3 times on the reunion tour), and I would give every single show I've seen to go back and see one show on this tour! Dynasty is my favorite KISS album, and would have loved to see the supporting tour. But, alas, I was only 6 back then. Ah well, thanks for posting this. :)
!976 was a very good year for concerts seen Pink Floyd..Alan Parson..Doobie Brother..Rolling stones..Gratefull Dead..Rush Santana..Three Dog Night & i was at this Kiss Concert thats on this video & it was a fucking Joke i expected way better ..the sound was real bad there were all kinds of fights ppl were urinating all over and the place just stunk so before half way through the concert i left & drove back to Canada pissed off...what a bubble gum band..
I live a half hour away from there and saw them there with the Alive 2 stage. Theater techniques and Tasco sound were also at Stewart. They rehearsed in hanger "E" there. We even have some paperwork out of the dumpster from there. George Benson also used Stewart and Tasco sound.
@sledRacer1 It's actually an Ibanez Destroyer, a copy of the Gibson. Gibson took them to court for ripping them...He gave that to Paul sometime in early '77 I believe. Paul mentioned the guitar & Ace said he didn't remember giving it to him. Ha!!
Bob Ezrin's strict disciplinary ethic can be heard by this point, the band was tighter than ever. Ace was starting to use cocaine a lot more at this point, too.
COOL... I grew up on the other side of the Hudson River growing up during this time. I KNEW they rehearsed there - and remember Peter Criss had been in a car accident not too far from there (around 1977). Incidentally, Ace Frehley would time to time hang around my home town near one of the music shops (he also produced the video My Name is Eugene in one of the local bars with another guy who did work on my guitar... cool stuff).
This is the first time I ever saw this stuff. thanks!
Thank you! I agree with Crush, still hungry. You never realize when you go to a concert, how much work goes on behind the scenes. Before they ever get in front of you.
WOW I just gotta say it again WOW I have seen KISS 12 times going back to the 70's They are my all time favorite group and I have never heard them sound this awesome NEVER!!!! VOCAL AND DRUMS AND GUITAR !!!!!never!!!! MAKES YOU WONDER IF ITS DRESS REHEARSALS WITH CANNED MUSIC BUT THATS NOT IT EITHER. wow I just cant get over how f'n awesome they sound
@crush927 They were on fire for this rehearsal, and for the good sound, i think its because the camera is far back, catching the sound just right. And 1976 was one of the best years for KISS. Starting to make it big time but still hungry to rock.
There would have been very few people apart from KISS there so the pressures off. You can definatly tell they are more relaxed than usual. I agree with you this is probably the most energetic accurate performance iv'e ever heard from them.
Great stuff from a hard charging young group named KISS. This tour blew the roof off every areana, and left me saying, "Now THAT'S how it's supposed to be done!" They set the standard as to what a live show should look like. Many tried, but very few reach the benchmark set by KISS. Absolutely top notch stuff!!
Love it...KISS was my 1st concert ever at 7 years old on The Dynasty Tour lol..Just today, and alot of times, almost every week, I drive by The Stewart Airport Exit all the time on my way home from The Haunted SHANLEY HOTEL in Napanoch, NY...Gotta Love It :) Small World :)
ive never seen ace with a destroyer live. an original explorer yeah, but not often. used 'em in '76 cause they were a new design and fit the space ace vibe, but he had to go back to the best....les paul
Actually, If I remember correctly, Paul is shown on the cover of Alive with a black Firebird. Listening now, with an older ear, I'm actually surprised at how many double guitar bits there are. Never considered Paul to be so much of a lead player. There was a gorgeous Ibanez korina V from 1972 on Ebay yesterday. Just a reminder as to why Gibson was getting so nervous. Speaking of trolls...
@thecoolestdad Actually, Paul played a Gibson Firebird in the early days of KISS. Ace did whip out a Explorer every once in a while back then. Personally, I always thought Ace looked cooler with a Explorer than a Les Paul.
This has to be the first time I have ever seen Ace playing another guitar besides a Les Paul.It appeared to be a Gibson Firebird that he was playing.Wonder why?
@83jbolt yeah you are right,it is an explorer.I don't know why I said a firebird.Do they even make a guitar called a firebird?Was I thinking of cars?LOL!
@thecoolestdad Ace is playing a Ibanez Destroyer model, its a pre lawsuit model, back when Ibanez made Gibson copys. Ace played an Ibanez Destroyer on this whole tour, however Gibson paid him to use one of there own explorers for tv appearances.
They also rehearsed there for the Alive 2 tour, we saw them in hanger "E" there. Theater Techniques and Tasco sound were also located on that air base. Some of the people that worked there bitch about how loud they were all night! LOL!
this is so cool to see rare footage of this, i used to work there at stewart on the maintanence crew awhile back, man this so cool i only heard of this but never seen it until now. this is great in full costume. awsome video

They also rocked a ton of Ibanez Destroyers which were Explorer copies,
Ed Roman has one of Ace's for sale now. He only wants 30k for it. LOL
