Here I disagree in one point: the two allegedly non-coextensive senses of democracy are in fact connected. Democracy as a form of state has a direct relation to revolutionary politics since, as Badiou himself recognizes in Logics, the Democratic subject must split the situation between itself and its excesses (totalitarian dissidents), which means all alternatives to the priviliged content is either denied (reactive subject) or occulted (obscure subject).

The State is only pertinent to the extent that the deviation is possible, whether it actually concerns the State or not.
