What I don't get is how I have basically the same spec with a better CPU and motherboard, and faster RAM, with the same in game settings but it doesn't look that smooth.

I love the hd5770 iive been playing the latest games on max settings, but I use 1024x768 resolution as it is my monitors native reolution. Best value for money :)

I did a test at 1280x1024, maxed AA, all settings ultra high, ran 35FPS at the start of the first level where you drop from the plane and the parachute breaks.

1600x1200 it struggles though and only gets 18-20fps.

heh not bad performance-wise, but 1280x1024 is too low a resolution for me who is used to 1920x1200 on all games :) AA doesn't make up for it imo, things look too blocky

GPUs have nothing to do with crysis physics. Crysis Physics relie on your CPU
