  • murder is murder she should hang

  • I read the guards got her pissed before hanging, she had to sit on a chair on trap door, dont know if its true.

  • I hope they make a movie about Nevile Heath

  • wow! fancy receiving sarcastic comments 2 years after my comments!...how the mind boogles :-)

  • i wonder if the 3 that have thumbed this down are coppers?

  • this vid narrator says Evans was "crazy" -how did she get hold of gun?

-there is a big difference between "crime of passion" and "pre-meditated murder"

-tell me into which of these two does Ruth Ellis fall?

  • @darkmossie633 Ellis - not Evans. This young woman was unstable; she had just suffered a miscarriage at the hand of Blakely; she was zombified on pain-killers as a result, and she shot him. Two people too many died as the direct result of his actions - she was probably more of a victim, than he ever was.

  • @darkmossie633

This was wayyyy before background checks. Only thing surprising to me was that it was in Brittan. I'm not sure when pistols became illegal in Brittan but I did think it was just after WWII. Perhaps an Englishman can chime in on that bit.

Fact remains that she did prepare to shoot him.. and she did ultimately shoot him as planned. So I'm not sure where one decides to do that rather then leave. That said, this is probably a case where she should have done time instead.

  • ruth was said to have been abused by her own father, and what with a kid out of wedlock in those days then an abusive marriage to an abusive alcoholic dentist, and being left with a 2nd kid,it was no wonder she lived the lifestyle she did and was pushed to the edge by men.i think cousins genuinely loved her,but knew she was obsessed by the pompous twat blakely and wanted him out the way.had this happened today and shed turned up to court looking dishevelled she would have got a few years

  • Roaming......

  • poor Ruth....

  • there are no ghosts

  • Comment removed

  • This is wrong! She got a harsh punishment! But she did have 2 days to think about it...

  • ruth ellis is my best friends great grandma, jamie ellis.

  • im related 2 her

  • I feel so sorry for her, may she rest in peace

  • She was CLEARLY mentally unstable at the time she killed him; also Desmond Cussen took advantage of her delicate state (Post-miscarriage depression) and convinced her to kill David; it was even him who gave her the gun.

Also, she was not given representation and a lot of evidence (the way she had been treated, her mental wellbeing etc) was not brought to light at her trial.

Yes, she shouldn't have killed him; but she shouldn't have been hanged for it.

  • She was hung due to 'immorality' as was Edith Thompson. She was no angel, had a laundry list of 'sins' behind her, BUT that said, with a loser like Blakely, it is very easy to see how she was driven to the point of distraction. Many would done likewise.

  • I believe her hanging was right, Bring back hanging in Britain!

  • well as long as you think that. must be right

  • well ur a sad cunt

  • Well your a fucking prick who has no idea, go die.

  • I recently performed a drama piece on Ruth Ellis for my drama coursework. Such a sad story.

  • I think David Bailey deserved what he got! Im sorry but he abused her mentally and physically! She should not have been hanged-Totally wrong!

  • David Blakely you idiot you know nothing

  • Its David Blakely...

  • @HOTPOT87 David Blakely (Bailey was a photographer !!)

  • @HOTPOT87 the is no excuse for murder she desevered to hang

  • @kevinkards Ruth Ellis was hanged by Albert Pierrepoint who once said "Capital punishment achieved nothing but revenge"...That is all :)

  • What Ive investigated the case and the evidence was presented in a very harsh way and brought her in a wrong way bad light in the jurys eyes should not in my opinion never been hanged

  • Unfortunately she didn't have public opinion on her side, because of her lifestyle. I know that this should not affect the judgement of those who had the power to reprieve her, but I am afraid that it did. As did her reluctance to say where she had acquired the gun. Apparently, THAT could have saved her.

  • murder is barbaric, the death penalty a balancing of the scales

  • Ellis was a victim of Battered Woman's Syndrome, she was suffering from this at the time of the murder. Blakely abused her, and caused her to miscarry their baby. Yes, she killed another human being, BUT the circumstances being what they where, she should've never been given the DP. She was a victim.

  • She did not however kill David Blakely in a fit of anger or defence. She went in cold blood with a gun, and as she stated, with the intention of shooting Blakely and killing him. That my friends, was, at the time, Capital Murder. As you quite rightly point out, today, the bleeding hearts brigade would have set her free.

  • I'm just saying she did not deserve death. If you don't like what I have to say, then well, go fuck yourself.

  • No, I;ll leave that to you, as that is all you apparently can do.

  • Nice comeback, NOT! DICKHEAD.

  • Well I was going to do an impersonation of a prat - but you have beaten me to it. Ask yourself this, if she was so innocent, why didn't she appeal the death sentence?

  • She probably wasn't told about that she could. Anyway, she wanted to die, but that doesn't mean she deserved it. A large number of people petitioned for a stay of execution, but the government denied them, because they wanted to make a point with her execution.

  • Please research your case more thoroughly. She knew, because she instructed her solicitor quite categorically NOT to appeal. (Incidentally death penalty case lawyers in this country at the time were far more qualified than in the States where you can be represented by a "greenie" straight out of Law School.) Also, if she was so innocent why didn't she fight her case tooth and nail. Did she think of her children, one of whom later committed suicide? No.

  • I did not say she was innocent, you ignoramus.

God, all I said was that she didn't deserve the death penalty. Stop being such an annoying fuck.

  • Language Timothy. Unfortunately that was the punishment at the time. Or are you saying that she shouldn't have hung because she was a woman?

  • I'm just saying the DP was "cruel and unusual" in her case.

  • @079186 The conviction was perfectly safe, there were no grounds for appeal. She admitted that she had meant to kill in evidence.

  • @dutchgoing The conviction was not safe at all, not all the evidence was at the trial, what gets me is we have far worse criminals now and they get treated far better and get useless sentences, having said that she should of no way been hanged and if anything they should give her a pardon, sometimes the law is a complete prick

this case will never be closed until she gets justice

  • @MYBIGKINDHEART My personal belief is that Ellis should not have been hanged, she was clearly unstable and under duress. These days she would have received a suspended sentence. Sadly in 1955 the plea of diminished responsibility simply did not exist. She actually said in evidence that she intended to kill Blakeley which is what condemned her. There were also witnesses. My personal view is that capital punishment is barbaric but she did murder somebody & there was a penalty back then.

  • the death penalty is BARBARIC.

  • We'll see what you think if a friend or family member of yours is ever murdered?

  • I would think the same, I'm postive. The DP is stupid, really: "I'm going to kill you, because you killed someone else, to teach you a lesson" The lesson? KILLING IS BAD!

The DP only furthers the cycle of violence.

  • and if you had your way, how long would you keep prisoners on a death row , as if you had your way then barry george would have been hung and in the end found not guilty.Sean Hodgson convicted of rape, Spent 27 years in prison to then be found innocent. Miscarriage of justice, John Brannan and Bernard Murphy convictions over turned after 10 yrs of wrong convictions. so think mate before you open your mouth in future and talk so much bullshit

  • Miscarriage of justice. Shocking, shameful and regrettable...but the instance of it happening is rare. Nowadays, plenty of convicted murderers, rapists and paedophiles walk away from their crimes with minimal punishment. Do you know how much it costs taxpayers to keep them in relative comfort? Fuck you and your liberal sensibilities...I bet you have never had a family member victim of serious violent crime?

  • she was guilty as hell!

  • thankyou
